Conservative Thread: We cannot do everything at once, but we can do something at once

Obama didn't back Martin down in GA because he knew Martin was a dead lock to lose. Obama didn't want to squander his political capital on a loser.

Yeah, I really didn't follow Martin much, but seeing him on the news today, man, where did they find that guy? He had Ludacris campaigning for him? :rotfl2:

It's almost as ridiculous as, say, Al Franken running for the U.S. Senate!

How about some cookies to go with that mocha?

christmas-cookies.jpg

You guys aren't helping my diet at all. *sigh* Now I want cookies.

My fellow GOP peeps, I am sitting here our Pop Century 50's section room laptopping. My DH is rattling the floor with his snoring yet I can hear Illuminations fireworks. Our bellies are bursting from the Canyon skillet at Wilderness Lodge and once again we wonder why did we do it to ourselves yet AGAIN! Perhaps its because the food is awesome!

The crowds are very manageable and today thru tonight it will be cold. This is the first Disney trip I made WITHOUT SHORTS. So far, we have not scored a Dreampass like we always do, but the week is young. Tomorrow...Studios AND we will start looking for the Ward family at Pop century.

Wow...Illuminations finale sounds like all heck broke loose. Wish you all were here in our room!

braggart... braggart...

:goodvibes

I'm glad that you are having a blast! I wish that I was there. I know that I will be soon ... but it still seems so far away!

And scoring a dreampass? I've yet to see the Dream Team. I think they're a myth. They don't really exist. :teeth:

Have fun at the Studios tomorrow. That's the park that I used to work at and it's my favorite (even though it gets a lot of flack)

One thing is for sure, though. Since the terrorist attack in Mumbai, every time I see Obama on TV he looks like a deer in headlights.

No kidding! I pointed this out to some Obama-supporting friends of mine and sensed a similar fear from them. I gave them a big, "WE WARNED YOU!" and then prayed that someday they will have the opportunity to shove those words back down my throat. I would rather be humiliated than be right this time.

I was just reading on another website where the posters are saying Maddow and some guest were on MSNBC tonight saying the Dems could've picked up the seat if they wanted to, but they didn't want to "pile on." And how that's such a refreshing change from Bush, who wanted to "crush every opponent."

Thank you Rachel, I've met my laugh quota for the month. :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Hi all!

Just popping on to say hi. :thumbsup2

Loco, I agree it has gotten nastier for sure. There is a lot of baiting going on. Heck, even I have been tempted to reply to some of them. But then I remind myself it is pointless; too many people are snowed right now. It is really scary to me the trust so many are putting in a man they barely know anything about (and i am not talking about what the media has told them ha ha). But as you all know, I'm a peaceful poster so I just keep it to myself. (except in here ha ha).

Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving! I love food..:woohoo:

Absolutely! That's why I think a lot of folks are happy Gates is staying on. Poor Obama hasn't a clue as to how to use the military to keep Americans safe. The State Dept. in Hillary's hands, though, means that the entire administrative staff there will be at each other's throats within 6 months. As I recall from her behavior in the West Wing, she's almost a parody of the boss from hell.

Hmm, my elf name is Holly-Tummy...:lmao: :rotfl2: What a coincidence, I love to eat, and I love the name Holly, so much so that it was almost my daughter's name!!!

My daughter was due December 27th, and I was so excited to be having a baby around Christmas, my absolutely favorite holiday, and was hoping it would be a girl, not that I wouldn't love a boy, but had two boys ages 5 & 6 at the time. I told EVERYONE that if I had a girl I would name her Holly Nicole.

On the way to the hospital, on December 17th, I was thinking that Holly really doesn't sound like a prima ballerina's name, :rotfl: so I changed the name to Lauren Elizabeth, which I thought sounded very elegant. My husband at the time, ;) said he really liked the name Allison, so we made a deal. If she was bald she'd be Allison, and if she had hair she'd be Lauren. We figured this was fair since our first son had a head of hair that could have been styled the day he was born, and our second son was what we called a cubie head, you know, bald like a cue ball! We had a girl, ten days early, 9 lb, 12 oz, named Lauren Elizabeth, with lots of hair! Except everyone kept calling me to congratulate me on the birth of Holly!

As it turned out, she HATED dance classes, so my dreams of her being the lead in the "Nutcracker" someday were dashed. Guess I could have named her Holly after all!

Here are my three cuties on Thanksgiving this year.
JoeMikeLaurencopyredeyefixed.jpg

Mike(son no. 2), Lauren/Holly, Joe(son no. 1)

What a beautiful family you have! Their eyes are all alike - cute!

Just a reminder of the idiots in D.C.

Sen Reid ........ what a putz.

Funny, that Mr Reid is --- and redundant, too - he's said it before, back in April:

Mr. President, someone wanting to visit the Capitol today, there is no place for them to gather. They gather -it used to be out on the East Front - now they gather on the West Front. And the people who work here joke about you can always tell when it’s summertime because you can smell the visitors. And what we mean by that Mr. President – they stand out there in the high humidity, heat, sweating, and it’s really – there’s no place for them to go. The bathrooms in this facility are almost nonexistent. There is one on this side, one on the other side, both very small.

I've got a Fuji S6000FD. I got it based on some recommendation on the DIS photography board for low light capabilities (dance and choir) as well as sports.

I wish I knew more about photography. I took a photography class this fall, but still need to learn more about aperture/shutter speed/iso...and putting it into practice.

My idea was once I get the hang of that, then I can move into an actual dSLR. This is can do everything automatic, but you can also set everything yourself.

I have your camera's baby....yours is pretty...:thumbsup2

Peace and goodwill to all.:rotfl:

Atheist Sign Joins Capitol Holiday Display This Year

http://www.kirotv.com/news/18172046/detail.html

I read another article about this -- apparently this area has been hotly contested - someone sued to have a Menorah put up and, a couple of years ago, someone sued to have that Nativity scene put up. This was cool -- when asked about this new development and if anything should be changed about the Nativity scene, he [the person who sued to have it put up] said, 'No, I think the Baby Jesus speaks for himself.' :thumbsup2

Atheism. Hmmmm. I think it's a cult. An ironic cult. But a cult nonetheless.

I say athiesm is a religion.

It is interesting that those who say there is no God expend all this energy to tell us there is no God - why should they care one way or another? I appreciate folks like Christopher Hitchens who say they are not atheists but are anti-theists....which paints a far clearer picture.

Hi everyone! :wave2: Thought I'd pop in and say hi to my favorite conservatives in between packing.

woo-hooo ward is packing!!!!!!! We're all so jealous and can't believe you'd ever want to leave us even for Disney...

Mmmmm, that looks so good!

I love your new avatar, Hilarie with an "H" -- :rotfl: :rotfl:

 I swear, donuts and Christmas cookies are my big weaknesses!

you only have TWO big weaknesses - good grief! But I know what you mean about Christmas cookies - especially the butter ones with the frosting :cloud9:

Thanks to everyone offering prayers to DFIL. He got out of the hospital today and is doing great! HE can't drive for 2 week, but other than that it seems like he's back to normal. It truly is a miracle!
This means DH gets to go on vacation too instead of staying behind with his dad. :thumbsup2

:yay: :yay: :yay: :yay: I'm so glad to hear that! Not just that your DFIL is doing well but that y'all will be together as a family. Thanks for letting us know!

Thanks it's so nice to have been missed :grouphug: as for Rahm Emanuel he is not who i would have liked. He scares me some. I mostly dont like his take on him wanting to force people 18 to 25 to labor for the government. Yo me it's just a pretty word for Draft. I think having all of us prepared for a crisis is good in case of an emergence but when you read his words it is not what he is saying.

He has picked many old schoolers and many big EGOS.....will be interesting to see how so many chiefs will work together when they have no Indians in there group to boss around. Not a person to be had that will be able to be directed. Not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing :confused3

I am glad he is moving right along however. No time to waist. How are all of you doing with your JOBS...do you still have them? DH has had a great year and the company he contracts out of is up 20%....

How are your relatives doing with there JOBS...my relatives are doing okay...they still have there's.....the news is sooooo darn depressing.

Everytime I see Obama all he talks about is Doom and gloom...he is so depressing. Wish he would say something like...Yes times are tough but we are Americans and we will get through this...he makes me want to save every penny possible and not spend. He says we need to shop and in the next words he says not to. So what is it. popcorn::

okay, y'all know we've been subjected to seeing H standing behind his Office of the POTUS-elect podium, having press conferences daily, etc....

when the news from Mumbai began coming in, reporters said their usual - and the Bush administration condemns these attacks, etc.....then they said, 'POTUS-elect Obama has been conferring with Condoleeza Rice and made a phone call to the Indian embassy, stating, 'there is only one president at a time.'

Huh??!?!?!!? Here he's been posturing with all of these bells and whistles....only to tell us, when crisis ensues, there IS only one president at a time!?!??!!? And I can imagine what he said to Condi -- 'uh, could you remind me, exactly which country do we like - India or Pakistan?'

Easy easy recipe for Peppermint Bark:

Peppermint Bark
1 24 oz almond bark
1 c. crushed candy canes
1 T. Crisco

Melt almond bark w/Crisco in microwave 6-7 min. or in double boiler. Add crushed peppermint & food coloring. Pour out onto foil lined cookie sheet & cool. Break into pieces to serve.

I melt the almond bark and then spread it on a wax paper lined cookie sheet.
Then I sprinkle pre crushed candy canes or pappermint sticks on top and let it set until hard. It takes only about 10-15 minutes start to finish.

Mmmm' that sounds good!

This picture gives me the creeps. He is one creepy guy. I need a shower now. Gah.

I am so jealous of you right now. I'm glad you're having a good time, despite your DH's snoring. :)

G'night Breezy.

I'm watching something about a wolfman. I guess his gf breaks up with him.

ETA: Wolfman is on Animal Planet. He's a man who raises wolves, not a hairy person.
LOL - I spit out my water reading this. Too funny!

Will do! Probably 3 or 4 times. :goodvibes
I feel like that old WDW commercial where you see the adults in bed saying "I'm too excited to sleep!" :rotfl:

Thanks to everyone offering prayers to DFIL. He got out of the hospital today and is doing great! HE can't drive for 2 week, but other than that it seems like he's back to normal. It truly is a miracle!

That's wonderful news! I'm so glad he's doing well and that your Dh can go with you now. Oh, and that commercial you mentioned? I LOVE that commercial!

Okay, this thread has introduced me to a whole new level of forum involvement! It is quite difficult to keep up, but I shall adjust accordingly.

An update on my externship next spring, I will be living in the housing for the Heritage Foundation, which affiliates me with their programs and allows me access to their lecture series. My conservative arsenal will be well-stocked!

Also, I was informed by Sen. Brownback's office that, among other duties, I will be entertaining Kansas constituents with private tours of the Capitol. If you are in D.C. between January and April, come visit our office and request a tour (pretend you are from Kansas if you have to). I thought learning the Jungle Cruise spiel was bad, but this script looks torturous! There goes my Christmas break...
What a wonderful opportunity for you! I love the Heritage Foundation. You are going to be well stocked for sure!!

I'm sorry to say the OS have only gotten nastier, so I'd steer clear of the CB, except for this thread. Obama's choices are…interesting. I think he is choosing center-right people because he desperately wants to get the economy on track so he can unleash his radical, big government, leftist domestic agenda and high taxation schemes on the nation. He just can't do that until the economy is stable, and apparently he can't get the economy stable with radical leftists in his cabinet. Ironic, no?

Hillary as SoS is actually a mystery to me. I just do not see the upside of it for either one of them. Clearly, some kind of deal has been made. Has he promised her the VP slot in 2012? Has he promised her that Biden won't serve the full 4 years and she can be VP before 2012? Does she have dirty pictures of him? Does he just want to make sure she's 12,000 miles away at all times? I don't get it. :confused3

One thing is for sure, though. Since the terrorist attack in Mumbai, every time I see Obama on TV he looks like a deer in headlights. He looks just plain scared, so I think he's really trying to surround himself with as many grown-ups as possible. There's a million miles of difference between campaigning on "hope" and "change" and trying to keep the nation safe from those murderous fanatics. Obama's just getting started on that long march.

Hey, anyone else notice that he refused to campaign for Martin down in Georgia? See, I don't think Obama wanted a filibuster-proof Senate headed by Dingy Harry. I think he thought the dem party would very quickly be seen as the source of so many of our current problems.

So, that's my take.
I agree with you Loco. I still think he nominated her to can her in a few years.

It is interesting that those who say there is no God expend all this energy to tell us there is no God - why should they care one way or another? I appreciate folks like Christopher Hitchens who say they are not atheists but are anti-theists....which paints a far clearer picture.
I never thought of it that way, but boy is that the truth. Thanks for enlightening me.

I want one of those Old School Conservative t-shirts with Reagan on it - is it in Hockeymom's signature? I want one of those - or at least a baseball hat. Maybe I'll put that on the Christmas list.

HILARY-OUS!!!!

Okay, quiz time --

which well-known commentator made this statement, in response to H's dismissal of the reporter who reminded him that he had been quite critical of HC's lack of foreign policy experience --

There we go again. The pesky media -- all we want to do is have a little fun, stir things up for our own amusement. I mean, really, how silly of that reporter to dare ask you, Mr. President-Elect, how it is that you completely mocked Hillary Clinton’s foreign policy experience just a few months ago, and yet today, you think there is no one more qualified than she to lead your foreign policy team? It’s a clever device, treating a question so dismissively in an attempt to delegitimize it, but it is a legitimate question. As annoying how you may have found it, it is a fair question. It was only in March of this year that Greg Craig, your new White House counsel, put out a memo over four pages long, outlining point by point Hillary Clinton’s foreign policy claims, calling them all exaggerated, just words, not supported by her record....

Mr. President-Elect, reporters, we hope, are going to ask you a lot of annoying questions over the next four years. Get used to it. That is the job of the media, to hold you accountable. But this isn’t just about the media. It’s about the American people, many of whom voted for you because of what you said during the campaign, and they have a right to know which of those things you meant and which you didn’t. Apparently, as you made clear today, you didn't mean what you said about Hillary Clinton. So, what else didn’t you mean? The media is going to be asking, and you were wrong today. Annoying questions are about more than just the press having fun. Annoying questions are about the press doing its job and the people’s right to know.

was it:

Rush Limbaugh?

Sean Hannity?

Glenn Beck?

Michelle Malkin?

Campbell Brown?

cheers for the person who said Campbell Brown!

Woo hoo! -- Yes, That Campbell Brown....

I'd better be smelling some oranges next week or heads will :rotfl:
:teeth:
You can come back to the Dis and post an "I'm gonna sue because I didn't get my orange smell thread" and we can all pop popcorn and see how it goes. I love those threads. They make me laugh at how silly people can be.:rotfl2:

Have you guys tried this? I'm in a cookie swap in a couple of weeks at work. I figured I'd do oreo truffles, but was trying to think of something else, too. These look good!

I'm jealous up here in AR. But, I'm celebrating because we got one of the two heat pumps finally installed and my house is not so miserable. I'm thinking of what rest. I want to try at Disney in June. I may try the skillet.

Welcome back, Robin!!!

I finally finished all my shopping except for my daughter's cheer gift. Thanks to everyone who helped me with the camera idea. I did get the Canon ELPH in blue for DD. DH liked the looks of it, so I ordered another for him in a different color using my work e-mail so he wouldn't see it. sssh.

Oh, Breezy, I think I want the lobster followed by one of those peppermint drinks. I've never tried them, but you all seem to like them. I may visit Starbucks this week...
