WOW look at all the visitors today! Must be 'cuz we have the best food.Visitors are traditional on Thanksgiving, after all. Happy Thanksgiving, residents and visitors alike.
Declansdad, I do agree with you. However, a bunch of people coming onto this thread all preachy doesn't help. Since I abstain from the Liberal thread, I don't know if you guys made your way over there to encourage those who are so inclined to stop calling us ignorant racists. Maybe a thread out on the main board asking both sides to please stop and try to behave toward one another as we (hopefully) behave toward our loved ones who hold different political opinions would be better. But even that is just a little hard to take seriously when you have, for example, a thread that was started yesterday enquiring about why some of us feel a certain way, and which was filled about 5 to 1, it seemed, with posts implying that we are lying about what we feel and why, and the real reason is just that most of us are uneducated racists who are afraid of/jealous of/or hate smart people. Heck, the FIRST five posts or so were defining our feelings in this way for us, before a one of us had had any chance to respond with our actual feelings. Those who did try to honestly answer the question were treated rudely and mocked. How would this make you feel? It is truly an historic moment that the US has a minority president, whether I care for him personally/politically or not. And it is a truly tragic statement on the mentality of some that the longstanding and vital tradition of dissent has now been relegated to nothing but racism in the process. I'm not accusing you of that, Declansdad, but I'm sure you can see where that would get really old, really fast. Not to mention that it is obscene and offensive. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr dreamed of a day when a man would be judged by the content of his character, rather than the color of his skin. I'm sure he never envisioned, and would never have agreed with, a world in which a man's character (or words, actions, motivations) could NOT be questioned, merely because his skin was brown. That's just as wrong as the reverse.
I missed this thread yesterday but excellent point and excellent post.
