Conservative Thread: We cannot do everything at once, but we can do something at once

WOW look at all the visitors today! Must be 'cuz we have the best food. :) Visitors are traditional on Thanksgiving, after all. Happy Thanksgiving, residents and visitors alike.

Declansdad, I do agree with you. However, a bunch of people coming onto this thread all preachy doesn't help. Since I abstain from the Liberal thread, I don't know if you guys made your way over there to encourage those who are so inclined to stop calling us ignorant racists. Maybe a thread out on the main board asking both sides to please stop and try to behave toward one another as we (hopefully) behave toward our loved ones who hold different political opinions would be better. But even that is just a little hard to take seriously when you have, for example, a thread that was started yesterday enquiring about why some of us feel a certain way, and which was filled about 5 to 1, it seemed, with posts implying that we are lying about what we feel and why, and the real reason is just that most of us are uneducated racists who are afraid of/jealous of/or hate smart people. Heck, the FIRST five posts or so were defining our feelings in this way for us, before a one of us had had any chance to respond with our actual feelings. Those who did try to honestly answer the question were treated rudely and mocked. How would this make you feel? It is truly an historic moment that the US has a minority president, whether I care for him personally/politically or not. And it is a truly tragic statement on the mentality of some that the longstanding and vital tradition of dissent has now been relegated to nothing but racism in the process. I'm not accusing you of that, Declansdad, but I'm sure you can see where that would get really old, really fast. Not to mention that it is obscene and offensive. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr dreamed of a day when a man would be judged by the content of his character, rather than the color of his skin. I'm sure he never envisioned, and would never have agreed with, a world in which a man's character (or words, actions, motivations) could NOT be questioned, merely because his skin was brown. That's just as wrong as the reverse.

I missed this thread yesterday but excellent point and excellent post.

I am not trying to stir up trouble, but rather start a discussion.

I have not posted on the liberal thread in months and I have certainly never been a regular poster there.

I have not said anything over the last 8 years because I have not been on here for the last 8 years. I have participated in political discussion and I have already admitted that I am more liberal than conservative. My reason for doing this now is because I, like many other posters on the Dis, have grown weary with all the name calling. I simply asked how does it end and can't one group simply rise above it all and stop.

As you can see from some of the other posts here today, I'm not the only one to feel so.

Sorry if anyone was offended by my posts.

Hey Soarin, can I ask about the Thanksgiving shrimp? What kind of shrimp dish do is it? Just wondering as I love anything shrimp!

:cool1:

It's just boiled shrimp. Peel it and eat it!!!! And we have coleslaw and baked potatoes and corn on the cob!

YAYYY for no turkey!! And....

..... what's with all the, uhhh, guests? I'm hiding the food now.

I came in here to wish you all a happy Thanksgiving - but did I accidentally open the liberal thread by mistake? :confused3

I was wondering the same thing.

There seems to be a stench left in here from earlier today.

I hope everyone had a wonderful thanksgiving. I just finished off a delicious piece of sweet potato pie with some great coffee. YUMMY!!

Have fun! Let us know how you like the Royal Pacific.

I wish I was going to WDW for Thanksgiving. I have 27 people coming for dinner here on Thursday.........much cooking......going to need a break at some point but do not see much opportunity as our oldest turns 8 on Friday......party for 15 boys......:scared1:

Still, it will be nice having the whole family together.

RPR is fabulous!!!! We love it.

Do you guys think my siggie is offensive? I've had a few posters tell me that it is.

The whole story: I was inspired to adopt my new siggie after seeing an Australian politcal cartoon.

I was touched by how one of our allies showed deep appreciation for our military heroes. I figured if they could do that, then I could at least adopt a new sig based on the cartoon. That seemed to be an appropriate way to honor veterans as Veterans Day approached earlier this month. I haven't been moved to change it even though the holiday has passed.

I am proud of our heroes currently serving in the military, and of the history of bravery and commitment to freedom that women and men in the armed forces have shown throughout this nation's history.

Apparently some folks find my sig offensive because it overstates US involvement in history. Now dumb ol' me... I thought it to be a beautiful tribute from one of our allies. My intentions are pure. I only wish to say something honorable about our veterans.

Keep your siggie. Tell them what a nice turkey might say- Bite me.

I've never called Obama by his middle name or initial, but all the whining almost makes me want to start.:lmao: :rotfl2:

Maybe we could call him Hussy as a term of endearment?

I just googled RP since I've never heard of it. There were many different places that came up. Are you referring to the one at Universal Orlando?

Yes. We spent a week at the Dolphin and moved to the Royal Pacific on Tuesday. It's lovely and they upgraded us to a 1 bd Hospitality Suite which is great. My daughter and her 2 friends sleep on the queen sleeper sofa in the living room and my friend, her 6 yo son and me sleep on the 2 queen beds in the bedroom.
The hotel staff is very nice-they go the extra mile to make you feel that your business is appreciated. And an enormous PLUS-the coffee is delicious:).

Just remember. There are some who want to see our thread closed. Ignore them. It's not worth the trouble.

I'm way too full of L-tryptophan to be roused by much of anything tonight. Many people believe it to be the cause of the sleepiness common after a Thanksgiving feast. Me, I think the 14 lbs. of cornbread dressing, candied yams, green bean casserole, corn pudding, cranberry relish, yeast rolls, pumpkin pie w/whipped cream, eggnog and alcohol...are also contributing factors.;)

Hi Everyone. Happy Thanksgiving! Let me be the first (maybe) to say…I am sooo full! Yummy. A traditional Thanksgiving meal is my all-time favorite.

I'm taking a short break from washing dishes, and catching up on the thread. Hmmmm…Lots of, ummmm, Thanksgiving Day visitors. I see the perpetually angry aunt, that annoying cousin who thinks he's the smartest guy in the room, another cousin's new girlfriend who keeps insulting people and then whining "I didn't mean to to be rude," and then that nosy neighbor, who's always criticizing in others the very things she does herself. Ahhhh, holidays. Hopefully they'll know they're supposed to go home after the pie is served. Quick! Someone serve the pie! :rotfl:

I'm not buying that tryptophan hype either. When you gorge, you sleep! Fact of life. :rotfl: We had thanksgiving lunch then a nap and reruns for dinner. Makes the day much easier. ;)

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Please remember to keep the troops in your prayers tonight that they may return safely to celebrate Thanksgiving with their families next year.:)

I'm afraid I might eat a slice tonight after it's finished baking! And that wouldn't be good because that pie needs to travel out of town tomorrow. That'd look pretty bad if I showed up at the door with a partially eaten pie. :lmao:

you can always fill that hole in with a pretty whipped cream design. ;)
