I'm here and need to catch up on reading, but I may not do that until tomorrow. I had a little problem early today (understatement...).

I woke up today and when I finally managed to open my eyes, I noticed my right eye felt funny. I closed it again thinking I was just tired, and it hurt like heck. So I got up and went to look in the mirror and the part of my lower eyelid near my tear duct was red and swollen to the size of a raisin! I couldn't even blink without being in pain. I rinsed my eye out, used a cold paper towel, and took Advil and now (how many hours later?) it's finally better. Still a little swollen, but not really bad. I have no clue what happened, although an eyelash finally came out from somewhere in my eye when I was holding the paper towel to my face for almost an hour. :sad2:

So much for Sunday as a day of rest and calm. :rolleyes1

Oh, I'm so sorry about that. I'm glad you're feeling better now.

You guys will have to forgive me for my premature Christmas sig. I usually don't like to see or hear Christmas stuff until after Thanksgiving but Grumpy Pirate sent the artwork out via PM and I just couldn't help myself. Had to do it. :)

I know. I have an inbox full of stuff from Grupmy right now. I'm trying to hold off until Friday.

I can do it.. I can do it..

Oh, I'm so sorry about that. I'm glad you're feeling better now.

Thanks, blestmom. I'm sitting here trying to read using mostly my left eye. The computer screen is irritating my right eye, so I'm going to have to take a break in a minute.

I see y'all talking about Black Friday. Anyone ever been to Potomac Mills, the huge mall not far outside of D.C.? Anyone ever been there on Black Friday? I have.

Worst. Idea. Ever. There were so many people, you couldn't even walk; you had to shuffle your feet forward and form a train of the people you were with so you didn't get completely separated.

Wow, SD. I hope your eye gets better!

I try to avoid malls period so there's no way I'd do the mall on Black Friday.

Hey everyone! I'm finally able to get on the computer.
Michelle- Thank you, very much for posting the buckeye recipe :goodvibes . I can't wait to try it. I've already printed it out and will be putting the ingredients on my shopping list. I love your new siggy, btw.

OH YES YES YES!!!!

I have one of my fav Christmas movies on:

"Tis the season to be Jorry.......

Fa Ra Ra Ra Ra, Ra Ra Ra Ra......."

Who doesn't love "A Christmas Story" ! :santa:

I love that movie. Can't wait to watch it this year.

I am definitley planning on doing a little shopping on Friday. Dh has to work, but he will be hitting Target first, just in case there is anything we "need". I might check out Gymboree because I heard that they will have jackets for $14.

My oldest dd will be 8 on Friday, too. I can't believe it. She is growing up so fast.

I meant to say, I got a button from my church that says, "It's OK, Wish Me A Merry Christmas" :yay: . I'm going to get the matching car magnet, too.
There is a group at our church promoting retailers who promote Christmas. They do surveys, look at ads, commercials and talk to store managers and all that. I guess Walmart is hardly mentioning Christmas in ads, signs and such, which is completely different than last year. Target on the other hand is promoting Christmas a lot more than last year. I can give you a link if you like.

Thank-you so much Grumpy Pirate! I will put one in on Monday. If I can figure it out. As you can tell the tag fairy had to help me last time!

SorcererDonald16 hope you and your eye get better soon!:goodvibes

I saw this article and all I can saw is I'm not surprised, but am a little sad::sad2:

US officials flunk test of American history, economics, civics

Thu Nov 20, 2:24 pm

US elected officials scored abysmally on a test measuring their civic knowledge, with an average grade of just 44 percent, the group that organized the exam said Thursday.

Ordinary citizens did not fare much better, scoring just 49 percent correct on the 33 exam questions compiled by the Intercollegiate Studies Institute (ISI).

"It is disturbing enough that the general public failed ISI's civic literacy test, but when you consider the even more dismal scores of elected officials, you have to be concerned," said Josiah Bunting, chairman of the National Civic Literacy Board at ISI.

"How can political leaders make informed decisions if they don't understand the American experience?" he added.

The exam questions covered American history, the workings of the US government and economics.

Among the questions asked of some 2,500 people who were randomly selected to take the test, including "self-identified elected officials," was one which asked respondents to "name two countries that were our enemies during World War II."

Sixty-nine percent of respondents correctly identified Germany and Japan. Among the incorrect answers were Britain, China, Russia, Canada, Mexico and Spain.

Forty percent of respondents, meanwhile, incorrectly believed that the US president has the power to declare war, while 54 percent correctly answered that that power rests with Congress.

Asked about the electoral college, 20 percent of elected officials incorrectly said it was established to "supervise the first televised presidential debates."

In fact, the system of choosing the US president via an indirect electoral college vote dates back some 220 years, to the US Constitution.

The question that received the fewest correct responses, just 16 percent, tested respondents' basic understanding of economic principles, asking why "free markets typically secure more economic prosperity than government's centralized planning?"

Activities that dull Americans' civic knowledge include talking on the phone and watching movies or television -- even news shows and documentaries, ISI said.

Meanwhile, civic knowledge is enhanced by discussing public affairs, taking part in civic activities and reading about current events and history, the group said.

That's crazy. I would have thought and hoped that they would have scored a lot better.

You can stop by for a few at my house. I live a few minutes off of I-5. :goodvibes
No good homemade cookies here, though; I can't bake! :scared1:

Hmmm, on my next drive down there I just might have to take you up on that offer. It would be good to know more conservative friends here. :thumbsup2 Ugh, I feel like I'm in Obamaland...
