All of the award winning movies (well, most of them) I find incredibly boring. I fell asleep during The English Patient and that got raving reviews.

I don't watch deep movies; I have no time for introspection, self-revelation and the betterment of mankind.
So I watch Bugs Bunny instead.

You guys sound like me...! :rotfl2:

This is fun for the press to try to stir up whatever quotes were generated during the course of the campaign, and you’re having fun. And there’s nothing wrong with that. I’m not faulting it. But, look, I think if you look at the statements that Hillary Clinton and I have made outside of the heat of a campaign, we share a view that America has to be safe and secure, and in order to do that we have to combine military power with strengthened diplomacy.

'quotes generated during the course of a campaign'?!??!!?!?

Wow. :sad2:

Really, Bush leaving office is a bad nightmare for these folks. It's all gonna be on them now. I had an Obama supporter at work tell me just today that with the India attack, he's really scared. He said, "Everyone who voted for Obama really knows that they guy is totally unprepared. Now the reality of what we've done is setting in." I said, "Yeah? Here's a quarter, call someone what cares about your buyer's remorse." :rotfl:

I know...I really do feel he is unprepared for the decisions he is going to have to make.

I put the AKL loop on my iPod not too long ago. It makes a nice little soundtrack to life. It's pretty cool picking up grub and drugs at WalMart while listening to the African sounds. :cool1: Ehhhh... I'm just weird that way.

No, no...you're not weird! I love listening to Disney park music all the time. Puts me in a happy mood! :goodvibes

There are a couple of posters on their who are nasty hate, 24/7. I think they're kind of sad, actually. And I can't stand it when I let myself get pulled into their bitterness, but sometimes I just have to say "Hold on a minute…" though it's ALWAYS futile, and it ALWAYS results in an immediate personal attack. :sad2:

I started at the beginning of that locked thread and many many posters stated that GWB would be remembered well.....Dawn, for one....I made it to about page 15 and got dizzy with all the 9/11 back-and-forths...

But none of the posters who stated that were treated with the same derision that you were, loco -- that was bad! Some said they disagreed [and these were some of the usual suspects] but most just posted their own opinions...none of the them took it to that kind of level. :sad2:

Well some people aren't satisfied with thinking that Bush is incompetent, they need to believe that he is heartless with no conscience. I couldn't care less how they judge him.

That was another point made on that thread - because either folks said he was stupid or that he lied about the WMDs/Iraq/Katrina

Can't have it both ways....

Me, I'm trying to figure out the H thing -- is he a clueless puppet? is he part of a diabolical plan - with Sorros at the helm? is HE the diabolical plan? :confused3

Those pictures are actually eerily similar. And no, saying they look alike doesn't mean I think Obama is bad like that guy was. Just to be clear.

I'm really thinking about saying Merry Christmas to myself a few weeks early as well. I stared and stared at this Giclee (http://www.thecollectionshop.com/xq/ASP/Carlton_Reis_Impressions_of_a_Duck/StockNumber.CEIMPRE/qx/Limited_Edition_Fine_Art_Detail_Page.htm )on canvas in WDW in May but couldn't justify it based on the cost. Well, I found several art dealers selling it for $150 cheaper than retail, and one is offering free custom framing and shipping to boot. Now the question is do I want to eat into my trip fun money and get this, or no. I don't spend money on things I want during the year, so I'm having a hard time justifying this. Plus I've never spent that much on anything I wanted. Ever.

I say go for it....there's no accounting for true love. I'm not a splurger by habit but those times that I have splurged [especially after long deliberation], I've never regretted the purchase. That Donald print will cheer you up every time you look at it - and it's okay if that sort of thing carries a hefty price tag.

oh yeah, back to the camera discussion...I did buy a nicer Fuji a few months ago - it was steeply discounted [because it was a soon-to-be discontinued model] and had been well-reviewed. One reason I bought it was to take to Disney. I also got a camera bag for my Fuji that was a little larger than my camera so I could take it to the parks along with my necessities. Now I am wondering if my necessities might be too much for the camera bag so I'm deliberating about taking yet another bag to the parks....

what to do? :confused3

by the way, I do like my Fuji -- although I haven't become skilled enough to do more than point-and-shoot with it. One of these days, though....

That print would look good on your wall, SD.
When I don't have the money for it I don't think I could personally justify pulling it out of savings that's meant for something else. There's something I want very badly but I have to save up for it; it's going to cost me $500. In between bills, bills, cost of living and bills, who knows how long it'll take me? :sad1:

whatever quotes were generated during the course of the campaign
In other words, we can't believe what he said during his campaign? Say it ain't so, Joe.
"That's a big surprise. I think I'm gonna have a heart attack and die from that surprise."

OBAMA’S MYTHS: YOUNG VOTERS AND SMALL DONORS
By Dick Morris And Eileen McGann
12.1.2008

Myths in politics take on a life of their own and the Obama campaign has been quick to cloak its incredible electoral success with a new coat of mythology. Two fantasies, in particular, pervade the amazing triumph of the Obama candidacy: That young people propelled him to victory by finally voting in large numbers and that small donors financed his campaign.

Were either myth a reality, it would be big news. Ever since the voting age was dropped to 18, politicians have been waiting for young voters to rock the system. But turnout among the young has been consistently and disappointingly low. From the manifest enthusiasm for Obama on campuses and the mammoth crowds of young admirers he generated, it appeared that the moment for the young had finally come. In the primaries and caucuses, young people flocked to Obama’s bandwagon, often supplying his top heavy margins of victory in caucus states that propelled him to victory over Hillary.

But on Election Day, it did not happen. The Fox News/Opinion Data exit polling showed that the vote cast by people under thirty held steady at 11% of the total, the same level the organization’s 2004 exit polls had found. Edison Media Research/Mitofsky International found a higher proportion of the vote cast by 18-29 year olds — 18% — but, by the same methodology, the firm found the 2004 voter base was 17% composed of people in that age cohort. Whether the young cast 11% or 18% of the vote in 2008 makes little difference. The fact is that neither polling firm found any real increase from the levels they found four years ago.The myth of the small donor is even more important. Most political observers did not attack Obama for his breaking of his pledge to accept public financing because of our belief that he was funding his campaign by a massive outpouring of small donations. We felt that he was single-handedly accomplishing campaign finance reform and did not mind that he opted out of the public system. Indeed, we cheered as he amassed a $600 million war chest as it signified the clout of the small donor and showed the vulnerability of the old fat cat/PAC network that others used to raise money.

But we were fooled by Obama’s propaganda. In a story by Fred Lucas, CNSNews reports that the Campaign Finance Institute (CFI) found that only 26% of the donors to Obama’s campaign gave $200 or less, compared to 25% for President Bush’s campaign in 2004. How did Obama fund his campaign? The old fashioned way, from fat cats. CFI found that he got 80% more money from large donors (over $1,000) than from those who gave less than $200.
Obama did benefit from small donors slightly more than other campaigns, but not enough to make the historic statement it appeared at the time that was taking place. CFI notes that 47% of Obama’s total fund raising came from large donors, compared to 60% for McCain, 60% for Bush in 2004, and 56% for John Kerry. This trend represents a movement in the right direction, but hardly the revolution that has been mythologized.

These revealing stats are more than a footnote to history. They represent the denouement of a carefully cultivated myth. Obama sold America on the idea that his campaign was animated by hordes of small donors who we’re attracted online. It now appears that this line was nothing more than a convenient smoke screen to mask his dependence on the traditional forces that have always funded presidential campaigns. And it puts into a new perspective the massive amount Obama raised and his brazen reversal of his public pledge to accept the limits imposed by public financing of campaigns.

Now that we know that Obama funded his campaign the old way – from rich people and special interests – it is reprehensible that he did so to the tune of over $600 million. When it looked like he was using the money of small donors to buy the election, it was excusable. But now that it becomes clear that he was getting money the same way other politicians always have done so, his vast outspending of McCain, all based on his chicanery in not taking public financing, puts his victory into a sharply more negative light.

And the fact that he and his staff cultivated the myth of the small donor, even as they realized what a distortion it was and used the myth to cover their attempt to buy the White House with special interest funding, lends a decidedly cynical aspect to their triumph.

We were fooled.

My Mom sent me this email, and now I know what I want for Christmas.:lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

A Jewish man walked into the Lingerie Department of Macy's in New York.

He tells the saleslady, "I would like a Jewish bra for my wife size, 34B. "
With a quizzical look the saleslady asked, "What kind of bra? "

He repeated, "A Jewish bra. She said to tell you that she wanted a Jewish bra, and that you would know what she wanted. "

"Ah, now I remember, " said the saleslady. "We don't get as many requests for those as we used to. Most of our customers lately want the Catholic bra, or the Salvation Army bra, or the Presbyterian bra. "

Confused, and a little flustered, the man asked "So, what are the differences? "

The sales lady responded. "It is all really quite simple. The Catholic bra supports the masses. The Salvation Army lifts up the fallen, and the Presbyterian bra keeps them staunch and upright. "

He mused on that information for a minute and said, "Hmm. I know I'll regret asking, but what does the Jewish bra do? "

"Ah, the Jewish bra, " she replied "makes mountains out of molehills. "

:rotfl2: I rather enjoy Foghorn Leghorn, Wile E Coyote, and Pepe le Pew (when I'm in a French-lovin' mood).

H's response was as follows:

...whatever quotes were generated during the course of the campaign,

This ranks right up there with "It depends on what your definition of 'is' is."

Another good one from Michelle Malkin - okay, everyone - let's sing together now:

:rotfl:

In other news, here's my prediction: Obama will regret the day he made Hillary SOS, because both the Clinton's will be such a thorn in his side.

I am waiting for the day...:rolleyes1

Course they're not to blame-how could you blame poor underprivileged evil men for their own deeds! Bush telepathically implanted the idea in their brains:

"Fly a Plane into the Pentagon, Fly planes into the twin towers, Set off bombs in Mumbai", I command you.

I wonder, too - just how many of those small non-reportable donors were from foreign sources.

Yep, something is rotten in the state of Denmark...and getting rotten-er and rotten-er

I just took a glance at that one. :scared1: Geez, the tension in some threads gets ratcheted up in a hurry. popcorn:: Yanno, when I feel myself getting too argumentative I go take a look at how my Fantasy Football team is doing. Works every time.
