Ooops. Along with whining about being sick, I also meant to say hang in there SD. I'm sorry your family is going through such a hard time, and that the diagnosis and treatment plan phase is dragging on and on like it is. That must be just awful. Hugs, prayers, and positive thoughts.

Operation puke watch is over...since I just watched myself puke.

Yeah, I know. You guys really wanted to know that. Sorry. Blech. I'm going to bed now...

Oh, no!!!! That's terrible. I hope you feel better soon.

:grouphug: I can cyber-hug, can't I? That doesn't spread germs does it?

:lmao: Thank you so much. I think cyber hugs are safe, but you might want to wash your hands anyhow. This is a vicious one. :sad2: My son was in my lap yesterday, being held and rocked, and breathing his stinky sick child breath in my face...and I KNEW this was going to happen. But what was I going to do, refuse to comfort him? Of course not.

Most times God takes pity on me and I escape without getting sick myself when the kids get sick. Guess I can't complain that once out of the last ten times I got sick too, huh? :confused3

Okay, I really am going to bed now. I am such a night person it seems beyond weird to go to bed at 10.

Yeah, I wish I could be there, too! You'll have a blast - and Rush and Ann!!!! Woo-hoo!!!

Great quote by the way...

Yes, I will :goodvibes

Regarding that quote, I am actually considering a blog about the conservative nature of Walt. While he is portrayed as a great and patriotic American, I think his conservatism is often overlooked for the sake of political correctness. I would not be able to put much work into a blog now (the congressional office I work in will not allow it), but I'll be able to revisit the idea in April when I am done in DC. We shall see...

Happy Mardi Gras to you, too! I'd say do it all now and go to confession tomorrow, but it is tomorrow. Happy Ash Wednesday, then!

I just gotta ask - who's the hottie to the left of Tom Selleck?

And where's your Hugh Jackman button?

That would be Dr. Drew Pinsky. He does Celebrity Rehab and Sober House on VH1. He's soooo hot!!!!!!!! I'm trying to figure out what kind of addiction I can have so I can go visit him in person... :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1 Last season on Celebrity Rehab he had on a tight black t-shirt, I almost died! He looked sooo good.

Maybe when I change the buttons I'll put Hugh Jackman on there. I've still got a couple of other people to fit on there. I wish there was more guy room in my siggy!!

Michelle, I hope you feel better soon! Lots of hugs to you.

I'm a right Libertarian. Ron Paul doesn't excite me either. I'd love to see Rush and Ann. They both kind of call it as they see it.

Don't give up on the Libertarians.

Sorry, I mean nothing against Libertarians (as I do mean plenty against Liberals). Rather, I take a principled stance against Libertarianism. By that, I mean the J.S. Mill brand of liberalism that is rooted in utilitarianism, deduced from relativism, which is the flip side of the same coin as nihilism. While I think most people who consider Libertarianism are attracted by its free market concepts (as am I), my concern is with the type of Libertarian who sat next to me at a Cato Institute/Heritage Foundation conference on the economy two weeks ago and said, "Don't you think it is liberating to courageously accept that all is meaningless?" My response, besides a simple, "no," was that a line must be drawn between meaningless government and appropriate government. I think he and I would disagree on whether or not government taxation was necessary. I happen to like having the strongest military in history.

:sad2: She's waiting for her surgeon to get back from a conference on Thursday to tell her what he thinks of these stupid test results (you know, the ones where they say "We have no clue whether chemo is harmful or helpful to people in your score range, but the little research we have done shows a "benefit" of a negative 3 percent."). :sad2:

If I were to wager a guess, I don't think she's going to get it, regardless of what he says. The risks involved are bothering her too much. I'm trying to say less and less because I don't want to feel like I'm responsible for her not getting it; then I'll blame myself if something does happen to her later. If he says she really should get it, I think she'll go along with him. She trusts his opinion based on his reputation and track record (top oncologist for breast cancer, and I believe also liver cancer, in the state). Can't say the same for the chemo doctor.

Me, too - except for the occasional TR...

Speaking of trips, are you getting excited about yours??!?!

Yes, yes I am! We leave bright and early tomorrow morning. Spending two days with my parents, then Epcot for my birthday, then DTD, then home that night. Not a bad weekend :goodvibes

And I'm just about to update my Dining Report if anyone feels like venturing out!

I'm much more Libertarian as well...my boyfriend wanted me to read Ron Paul's book, I didn't like it so much. I agree with the overall concepts, it's just with his logic behind them that I find fault. Basically I'm fiscally conservative (very very fiscally conservative.) Believe that a small government is a good government. Most governing should be done by the states, not the federal government. And that whatever you decide to do in your own home, so long as it does not harm others, I don't have a problem with. I don't care what religion you practice, who you chose to love, or what drugs you care to do...unless you get behind the wheel of a car. So lets recap: fiscally conservative, socially (moderately) liberal, and small government=good. What's interesting about the Libertarian party is that it has the power to unite both sides. One of my closest friends is a democrat, has always been and has always been vocal about it as well. Though she's more intelligent and we can actually hold a conversation that doesn't resort to insults being slung (hence why we're still friends.) I saw her the day after the election and said, "well you must be happy." Her response: "not really, I don't like his tax plan." :scared1: I nearly dropped dead. We got to talking and she said, "I think I'm more Libertarian. I care more about social issues really for the Democrats than I do fiscal issues. Really, I don't understand them taking my money and giving it to people who didn't work for it. But with the Republicans, I can't see why they're so against gay rights, that really bothers me." ...we actually agreed. Almost 100% on everything we were talking about. Because of this party. It's just that she cares more about social issues, and I care more about fiscal issues that we fall on one "side" of the aisle.

SD16: I am still keeping you and your mom in my prayers. Tough times for your family, and so not easy.

Everytime I see someone refer to the "BC" issue with Obama my first thought is, "Obama is on birth control?" Then I remember his never ending birth certificate saga. I think he just enjoys his little games. That keep many of us distracted from the real issues. I can see him just giving that smug, arrogant little smile all the while.

I watched the speech on rerun, my goodness he loves to talk. To me it was the same recycled speech he's been giving for four years. Oh well, the fact I can't stand him probably makes me less than open to what he has to say!

I was pleased with Jindahl. Its a start and he'll get better. I mean at this point, who else do the Republicans really have to put out there?

Good Morning, Friends... and Lurker Frenemies!

After reading Meghan's Mom's post yesterday, and some thought and prayer overnight, I have decided to follow her example and give up the DIS for Lent. A big part of "giving up" things for Lent is for Christ-followers to carve out more space in their lives so that they can draw nearer to God.

I do love coming here, and consider you to be my friends. Y'all just have no idea how much joy you add to my life. But I think I'll use the time I might be DISing to do other things and take on a new spiritual discipline during Lent. This is an extraordinary sacred time of year for me. I look forward to 'seeing' you all again at Easter.

I'll send my email via PM to a couple of the regulars on this thread should anyone wish to contact me.

Grace and peace to you all. For those of you who are Christ-followers, have a blessed and holy Lent.

SD-- You and your mom are in my prayers too.

I didn't watch the speech. I didn't want to have to poke out my eardrums.

I lean Libertarian myself. My husband is Libertarian and I had always considered myself a Republican but then realized that I'm probably a mix of Libertarian, Constitution party and Republican. The government needs to stay out of my business except to protect our country and keep us safe.

Don't even get me started on separation of church and state.

you, your wit and level-headedness will be greatly missed, Zip -- not to mention your amazing avatars!

See ya in 41 days!

Wow, I am impressed with Zip and Meghan'smom and your devotion! We will see you in a few weeks, God Bless you both!:grouphug: :flower3:

TLSnell, , sad - I thought stalking and pot stirring were not allowed. I think that's exactly what cut-n-paste posting is.

It's A cowardly way IMO to discuss a post you don't agree with by pulling it out to a thread where you know you'll have "back up" . Disgusting IMO.

I can see which side of the line integrity is. It's on the right side. :snooty:

I like Jindal too, but...I don't think this was his best speech.

i agree with you blestmom. i think the message was very positive, and i appreciated his relating his father's message to americans in general, but i found the delivery lacking a bit.

nonetheless, he's doing a brilliant job as a conservative in an extremely liberal state, he is comfortable criticizing what has gone wrong even at the hands of conservatives, and proposes ideas for correcting a bad situation properly. i really like the guy and hope he continues to follow a reasonable path to higher levels of leadership.

(i'll say it one more time...jindal/pence ticket two elections down the line for me).

I thought that this was interesting considering how loved Obama is:

Obama Less Popular Than Bush After First Month in Office
By Noel Sheppard
February 24, 2009

As Obama-loving media gush and swoon while they report the new President's popularity, an inconvenient truth emerged Tuesday that seems destined to get ignored: after one month in office, George W. Bush was more popular than the current White House occupant.

Impossible, you say?

Well, before Obama stepped in front of Congress this evening, Gallup published the following:

For the first time since Gallup began tracking Barack Obama's presidential job approval rating on Jan. 21, fewer than 60% of Americans approve of the job he is doing as president. In Feb. 21-23 polling, 59% of Americans give Obama a positive review, while 25% say they disapprove, and 16% have no opinion.

Almost exactly eight years ago, then newly-elected President Bush's numbers were 62 percent approving his performance, 21 percent disapproving, and 17 percent having no opinion (scroll about 3/4 down this Polling Report link).

As such, regardless of how hard media are working to foster this view that this is the most popular president in the modern era, such is not the case.

In fact, even ABC's director of polling reported Tuesday that Obama's current numbers are actually quite average with George H. W. Bush, John F. Kennedy, and even Jimmy Carter being more popular after just a month in the White House.
I somehow doubt this will get a lot of attention from the teeming hordes of press members who worked so diligently to get him elected.

So much for him being the most loved at the start of his term.
