Conservative Thread: U.S. Steele - Back In Business

Hey, did you catch the AP article (I'm not smart enough to link stuff because I read it off my phone) where it talked about BO's radio address today and the fact that "average american families" would get "$65" per month. A little later in the article, it gave us the $13 per week figure. In my non-Ivy League educated world, that only comes to $52 per week. Who else is he counting in the "average american family"- the polygamist's second wife or the extra baby momma? :rotfl2:

How is it going to go down when all the Obamaphiles realize BO is just a puppet and has no power (because we all know how much he really WANTS TO) help any of these people in the first place. I feel bad. Almost. :hippie:

My first thoughts on this were that Obama has told employers to "reduce" payroll taxes by $64 a month — and his IRS will just bill those employees for that at the end of the year, or at the end of the next year. One way or another, ALL Americans will pay MORE taxes under Obama; there's just no other way to fund his out-of-control spending.

I come seeking comfort.

Sweet Lord Jesus in heaven, Glenn Beck's War Room Special, Worse Case Scenario is scaring the living bejeezus out of me.

I am shaking.

I think I need to go find a Church, build a panic room and stock it, or just put a gun to my head. Any of those would work at this point. I am watching it now. It's 50 minutes into the show, and I pray that Glenn can talk me off the ledge like he's promised. Wow.

I watched the show also and was very creeped out by it. I know it is worse case scenerio, but lately that is all we are seeing, the very worst of decisions that impact everyone.

So I was also looking forward to the end of the show and I was encouraged. I do have great faith. And I know who wins in the end, no matter how bad it looks.

Keep the faith!

Class warfare. It'll work. For awhile. Until they run out of "rich" people's money. I hope Obama's supporters understand where they'll go then to get the money they need to feed the beast.

Don't know if this has been posted before, but oh so true!

I was having lunch with one of my favorite clients last week and the conversation turned to the government's recent round of tax cuts.

'"I'm opposed to those tax cuts," the retired college instructor declared, "because they benefit the rich. The rich get much more money back than ordinary taxpayers like you and me and that's not fair.'"

"But the rich pay more in the first place," I argued, "so it stands to reason that they'd get more money back."

I could tell that my friend was unimpressed by this meager argument. So I said to him, "let's put tax cuts in terms everyone can understand."

"Suppose that every day 10 men go to a restaurant for dinner. The bill for all ten comes to $100. If it was paid the way we pay our taxes, the first four men would pay nothing; the fifth would pay $1; the sixth would pay $3; the seventh $7; the eighth $12; the ninth $18. The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59."

The 10 men ate dinner in the restaurant every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement until the owner threw them a curve. "Since you are all such good customers," he said, "I'm going to reduce the cost of your daily meal by $20." Now dinner for the 10 only costs $80. The first four are unaffected. They still eat for free. Can you figure out how to divvy up the $20 savings among the remaining six so that everyone gets his fair share? The men realize that $20 divided by 6 is $3.33, but if they subtract that from everybody's share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would end up being paid to eat their meal.

The restaurant owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man's bill by roughly the same percentage, being sure to give each a break, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay. And so now the fifth man paid nothing, the sixth pitched in $2, the seventh paid $5, the eighth paid $9, the ninth paid $12, leaving the tenth man with a bill of $52 instead of $59.

Outside the restaurant, the men began to compare their savings. "I only got a dollar out of the $20," complained the sixth man, pointing to the tenth, "and he got $7!"

"Yeah, that's right," exclaimed the fifth man. "I only saved a dollar, too. It's unfair that he got seven times more than me!"

"That's true," shouted the seventh man. "Why should he get $7 back when I got only $2? The wealthy get all the breaks!"

"Wait a minute," yelled the first four men in unison. "We didn't get anything at all. The system exploits the poor."

Then, the nine men surrounded the tenth man (the richest one, paying the most) and beat him up. The next night the richest man didn't show up for dinner, so now the nine men sat down and ate without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important. They were $52 short!

"And that, boys, girls and college instructors, is how America's tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up at the table any more. There are lots of good restaurants in Switzerland and the Caribbean."

Same here. Unfortunately there's no conservative party. But maybe people like Michael Steele, Sarah Palin, and Bobby Jindal can steer the ship in the Right direction. :thumbsup2

Well, there is a Conservative Party and a Constitution Party, and even the Libertarian Party would not be bad, but none are viable. I don't think I'll go as far as to say its a wasted vote, but they just aren't going to get elected. So if you happy to just 'send a message', have at it.

I was amazed at the looting that happened around here with this last ice storm even. I know I shouldn't be, but I was.

A few months ago there was a break in at a small neighborhood convenience store that was in an inner city area. Some thugs drove a stolen car through the front of the store so they could take all of the cigarettes. The people in the neighborhood did not call the police right away, instead a big crowd went down and cleaned everything out of the store and left nothing. Then the police were called.

The thing that really surprises me was how when they interviewed the people in the neighborhood, they all told the same story. The owners were a wonderful couple that was always willing to help out anyone that needed a little help. They would give candy to the kids, give food to those that truly had a need, and would always be willing to sell to you even if you were a couple dollars short that week. They loved their neighbors.

It made me so sad to see these people talk about how wonderful and caring the store owners were, but they were all willing to steal from them when they had the chance.

:sad2:

First, relax. Panic will get you nowhere. Second put your 'or' option out of your mind for good.

Preparation is good. Not necessarily a panic room, but certainly food and water storage, guns and ammo. This isn't just a good thing for Armageddon, which may or may not happen, but its good for recessions, depressions, joblessness, natural disasters, etc. There are plenty of websites out there to read and find a good plan to follow. Google '72-hour kit' and 'food storage'.

Start with a 72-hour kit. Then build up a storage of foods with a long shelf life. Store what you eat and eat what you store. Rotate through that stock eating the oldest first. Start a garden to provide your own herbs and vegetables. Turn it into a family thing.

'Be prepared' isn't just the Boy Scout motto!

I don't just send a message. I vote Republican. Libertarians and others are kind of wasted votes. :confused3

AlexandNessa, calm down, sweetie. Yes, the program scared you. It should. But it made you think, didn't it, and that was the point. Now you have an idea of what you should gather just in case.
And remember, God is in control. No matter what happens, in the end, we win. :cloud9:

I missed Beck but is there a list actually written somewhere? I have been thinking of buying a few things to store just to help with keeping by budget with the expected inflation. I couldn't possibly store enough to make a huge difference but it might help a little.

I watched part of the Beck program, but I don't like sensationalism, so I had to turn it off.

We always have a stocked pantry - not because we are afraid of the world ending or anything like that, but because I like to stock up on good deals when I see them.

I have a very nice room in the basement under the stairs and it can hold tons of food down there. I also have a standup freezer, so when I see good deals anywhere, I buy whatever I can that fits the budget.

If I find cereal for less than $2.00 a box, I fill up the cart. Right now I have, probably between 10-15 boxes of cereal, 5 or 6 jars of peanut butter, tons of soup, toilet paper, paper towels, cake mixes, brownie mixes, juice boxes, water (I don't like the taste of our water here), etc. In the freezer, I have tons of meat, frozen potatoes, frozen veggies, juices, butter, you name it. It makes it very easy when we have a tight month and I can shop from the basement. January was a tight tight month for us, but you'd never know it - we had a houseful of food and nobody went hungry. I'd just run to the store for milk and fresh fruits and veggies.

So, my stocking up on food has nothing to do with what's going on with the government - it's how we roll here. :)

Hello fellow conservatives!

It feels good to say that, especially since I made a huge mistake and ventured on to threads about stimulus, $13.00 per week, Eric Holder, etc.

The Libs have absolutely NO knowledge of economics. Debating a Lib about the stimulus is like debating a stump -- they simply cannot grasp the basics, they cannot absorb facts, and they they just sort of....take up space.

(I apologize to stumps for that comparison)

The most pathetic thing? They are still spouting the "Rush Limbaugh is your leader" mantra....do they not get the irony of accusing others of blind devotion while they themselves are chanting memorized phrases and regurgitating old ideas?

Being here feels like sweet refuge:lovestruc

Yeah it is kind of funny that they forget about their blind devotion to their Fearless Leader!
:lmao:

I also like how we are all lying when we talk about seeing some Obama voters being unhappy with the amount of money they are getting from BHO. They think we are all delusional, but aren't they the ones that can't grasp why anyone would be unhappy living under The Obamasseiah? They just can't grasp that not everyone loves the man and some people are already having second thoughts. I guess it is just a little too complicated of an idea for them to grasp or they just can't see it through their rose colored glasses.:3dglasses

:rotfl2:

I don't know about this, in the back of my mind I often question if it was "fair".

If you are referring to the media's unfair bias and it's effect on the average person who doesn't pay close attention to politics, then I agree. He was definitely elected because of his rock star status, not his merit. But it's "fair" in the sense that these people were only duped because they allowed themselves to be. Those of us that took a good hard look at Obama (and weren't already loyal subjects of the left) saw right through him. The vote was fair and lawful, so he wins. America loses.

:sad2:

:sad2: This is why I have so little faith in America. You see this all over our country in our selfish, moral-less "me!me!me!" society. Even reading a lot of what the posters here on the DIS say, I just have to go :sad2: it’s the exact same mentality of those who stole from this couple.

I just watched it last night and all I can say is :scared1:

I think we need to remember that these were presented as "worst case scenarios". They said that we should prepare for the worst and by doing that we would be ready for anything.

It was a little sobering when he mentioned that during the break the guests said that they thought it would get much worse.:scared: :faint:

That being said, I was relieved that none of them believed that the military would be willing to attack their own citizens, if it came down to that.

I do think that it is smart to have some food and water in your pantry in case of emergency and we have done that. After watching the program, I think a gun would be a smart purchase as well, which is something we are considering.

I just watched it all on youtube. It is sobering; while these are worst case scenarios, everyone agreed that we are currently pointed in that direction. Esp. Mexico. The drug cartels are completely taking over everything in that country. I’ve been reading new story after news story lately about what they are doing down there, who they are killing, how they’re wiping out everyone assigned to handle the problem. It’s really scary and I’m glad that I don’t live near the border. One of the Partners at work, I think his brother lives down there. When the Partner is down in Mexico City, or whatever, his brother does get him an armored car with a security detail.

This from Michelle Malkin -- this Friday, from 12 to 1, will be Tea Party Day --

http://michellemalkin.com/2009/02/21/tea-party-usa-the-movement-grows/

Protests are planned in Chicago, DC, Atlanta among other places.

There's even a song - in honor of Robin's foray into America long long ago --

[sung to 'American Pie']

A long, long time ago…
we can still remember
How Ronald Regan made us smile.
And we knew if we had a chance
we could make those Democrats dance
And, surely we’d be happy for a while.

But this February should makes us shiver
With every promise Nancy delivers.
Bad stimulus on the doorstep;
We shouldn’t take one more step.

We will remember when we cried
As we read Harry’s big fat lies,
But something is foul deep inside
The day responsibility died.

So bye-bye, to our kids piece of the pie.
Obama Drives us to the brink,
will leave us all high and dry.
Coburn and the boys were tryin’ all they could think
Singin’, “You’re making our economy die.
you’ve taken our kid’s piece of the pie.”

Can we still trust in our gov,
We will need our faith in God above,
If we want to make them go.
Do we believe in principles,
Can we be saved from those liberals,
And can Mitch and John keep their troops in tow?

Well, the Unions are in love with them
`cause they read the same liberal hymm.
They change all the rules.
Now we got those stimulus blues.

We’ll end up lonely and without a buck
Just a Green job and a hybrid truck,
Right now, we are out of luck
The day responsibility died.

We started singing,
“bye-bye, our kid’s piece of the pie.”
Obama drives us to the brink,
will leave us all be high and dry.
Coburn and the boys trying all they could think
singing “You’re making our economy die.
you’ve taken our kid’s piece of the pie.”

Now for two months we’ve been on our own
Ried, Nancy and Obama have clearly shown,
Their way is how it’s gonna be.
They’re jesters, jokes and drama queens,
Throwin’ cash around like they’re seventeen
Not listening to the voice of you and me,

And while they read a book of Marx,
We praise Friedman in the dark
The day responsiblity died.

We were singing,
“bye-bye, our kids’ piece of the pie.”
Obama drives us to the brink,
will leave us high and dry.
Coburn and the boys were tryin’ all they could think
singin, ” You’re making our economy die.
you’ve taken our kid’s piece of the pie.”

But we can not sign the blues
We will work for happy news,
Freedom is 21 months away.
We must go to the roof and shout “no more,”
Like we did 15 years before,
It is time to put an end to the Lib’s day.

For today believers in responsibility screamed,
Conservatives cried, But we still will dream.
Loud words must be spoken;
“Our Liberal government is broken.”
And three men to whom we could turn:
Pawlenty, Jindal and Coburn,
From their leadership we can surely learn.

Today, responsibility died.

‘Til then we will be singing:
“bye-bye, our kid’s piece of the pie.”
Obama drives us to the brink,
will leave us all be high and dry.
Coburn and the boys were trying all they could think
singing “You’re making our economy die.
you’ve taken our kid’s piece of the pie.”

Okay, I think that is a cute song except for the phrase "And three men to whom we could turn:
Pawlenty, Jindal and Coburn," - Pawlenty?!?!?!?!?

:sad2:

That makes me so sad, too - such a disconnect between their regard for their neighbors and their neighbor's possessions.

I wonder if that couple even stuck around - wouldn't blame them if they didn't.

Hi everybody. :wave2:

I've been reading here, but just too busy to write much. Trying to get back to things after that great Disney trip. I've started my trip report, and as soon as I post it, I'll let you know.

SD...I'm continuing to pray for your mom, and your family. :grouphug:

Yep, this about sums up how I feel...Obama was elected in large part due to his rock star status. Kind of like voting in American Idol...not the best way to elect a president.

Dear God..are some of these people for real? Do they really and truly believe what they are saying? Some don't take all of their tax deductions and think it shameful to not live up to you full potential and pay the government more $$$$. They are "so proud" the bo is living up to being "fiscally responsible" I don't get the math either. How does 3.6% of $350K equal $121? My calculator says $12600.:confused3

I guess, I must consider have radical some are. It's still mind boggling to hear how excited they get.....because the government is spending so much money. It's icing on the cake that the $$$$ are coming from business owners and the "rich". They really believe Barry's going to "pay" for all this "stuff"? :rotfl:

**edited to add** I used 3.6% ....should have been 4.6%...at least I think that's the difference between 35% and 39.6%. I used an obamaphile number.:scared1: I didn't think it sounded right.

This pushes the grand total to $16,256.49.
