Connor has been with us for over a month now. He is doing well in obedience and likes to go. When he arrived he was thin because he had been breeding. Then he came to our house. It was a change, things were different for him and in spite of having the same food, he became SKINNY! When I had him groomed I was horrified at how thin he was. He used to have raw three times a week before he came, so I gave him two raw chicken frames and a turkey neck. I know, too much, but it was the most he had eaten in days. That gave him diarrhea. I ditched the raw diet, gave him sucralafate and canned pumpkin so that solved that. He likes Nature's Recipe venison formula so now we have the diet under control.
He absolutely loves me. He follows me from room to room. He won't let me out of his sight. Everyone in the house loves him and he likes them, but he won't even go out in the yard unless I come too. His recall is excellent. He will stay within 20 feet of me for 2 or 3 hours of yard work. When I leave the house however, I generally crate him because he paces looking for me. Today he stayed in the den with DH while DH was working from home. He whined, wanted attention, wanted to leave the room to look for me, etc. I hope that gets better. I don't like that he feels anxious. His crate and his towel is from his previous home and he doesn't mind his crate. Yesterday, the owners of his new suitor wanted to meet him prior to their planned 'arrangement' next week. They drove up from New York City and they absolutely fell in love with him. They are confident that he will make a good "husband" for their standard poodle named Rabbit. Next Monday I have to return him to his previous home for the 'occasion'. He will be gone for three days. I hope he will settle back into our home when I bring him back.
Last night he was so funny. He was sleeping on the couch and we were watching Life on Discovery. He wasn't interested at all until the lions started chasing the hyena. He jumped up, ran to the tv and stared. When the hyena went off the screen, he tried to look behind the tv and then ran into the other room to see if it was in there. He also loved the meercats. When the fish came on? No interest at all.

I've been thinking of you and Connor and wondering how he was doing. I'm sure you will miss him while he's gone "taking care of business" next week! I hope he settles back in easily, though. Thanks for the update!

Are you getting out the Barry White CD's to get him in the mood?? Hope his peeing in the house has stopped. He sounds like a love!

Great to hear that he is settling in. Hope his time away doesn't set him back.

No more peeing in the house. He really learns quick. I told him no rather sternly and I have learned to anticipate when he has to 'go'. He does know how to bark so I am working on "speak", and then 'speak' to go out.

The couple that drove up from NYC were really cute but very stylish. They are well into retirement, and walk their two poodles every morning in Central Park, when apparently before 9 am, dogs can run loose. They live right near Central Park so its convenient for them. When she called to make arrangements to come a visit, she asked if I wanted or needed anything from "the city". I wanted to say a fake Rolex watch but I held my tongue. :rotfl2: She and her husband arrived with both dogs, the new 'wife" and the wife's mother in the car where they stayed. (Thank God!) They loved Connor, took pictures, etc and then they got back in the car and drove back to 'the city'. I guess they want to 'be sure' he's the one.

Wow, I can't believe it's been over a month already since you got Connor :) ... I'm happy everything is going so well :goodvibes ... I loved the story about him watching TV and how he went looking for the hyena  -- just too cute .... I bet you will both miss each other next week when he goes on his "special visit" ;) ... I hope the three days go by quickly and he'll be back home before you know it ...

Your Connor stories are too cute. I think it would make a great book. You should consider it.

He has been a great distraction since I lost Jude. I wasn't looking for another dog but I have the time for him and his other owner doesn't. She is so busy with a young family, other dogs, works full time and Connor didn't get along with his father. When I first brought him home I felt like, 'What did i get myself into". He was nervous, anxious, needy and a real "Klingon". But it is working out all for the good. He will go into the family room as long as he can see me from where he is. That is a huge step for him.He has enjoyed obedience although has some anxiety in the 'down/stay' around other dogs. He "lays" down like a Sphinx. ;) He didn't sit on command, he did "go lay down", not "down", like right where you are now. But he is coming around.Down he still doesn't like, but he does it. He is very athletic, fast and loves to jump. I think that we will continue with obedience, advanced obedience and if he does well in that, agility. It will keep him in shape and his mind active.

Glad he's adjusting. Will I be seeing you in the obedience ring soon? I would love that!!
