Connor has been with us for over a month now. He is doing well in obedience and likes to go. When he arrived he was thin because he had been breeding. Then he came to our house. It was a change, things were different for him and in spite of having the same food, he became SKINNY! When I had him groomed I was horrified at how thin he was. He used to have raw three times a week before he came, so I gave him two raw chicken frames and a turkey neck. I know, too much, but it was the most he had eaten in days. That gave him diarrhea. I ditched the raw diet, gave him sucralafate and canned pumpkin so that solved that. He likes Nature's Recipe venison formula so now we have the diet under control.
He absolutely loves me. He follows me from room to room. He won't let me out of his sight. Everyone in the house loves him and he likes them, but he won't even go out in the yard unless I come too. His recall is excellent. He will stay within 20 feet of me for 2 or 3 hours of yard work. When I leave the house however, I generally crate him because he paces looking for me. Today he stayed in the den with DH while DH was working from home. He whined, wanted attention, wanted to leave the room to look for me, etc. I hope that gets better. I don't like that he feels anxious. His crate and his towel is from his previous home and he doesn't mind his crate. Yesterday, the owners of his new suitor wanted to meet him prior to their planned 'arrangement' next week. They drove up from New York City and they absolutely fell in love with him. They are confident that he will make a good "husband" for their standard poodle named Rabbit. Next Monday I have to return him to his previous home for the 'occasion'. He will be gone for three days. I hope he will settle back into our home when I bring him back.
Last night he was so funny. He was sleeping on the couch and we were watching Life on Discovery. He wasn't interested at all until the lions started chasing the hyena. He jumped up, ran to the tv and stared. When the hyena went off the screen, he tried to look behind the tv and then ran into the other room to see if it was in there. He also loved the meercats. When the fish came on? No interest at all.
