i know that once you request a connecting room, its just that, a request. i know DIsney will do the best it can to grant your request, but has anyone actually not had their request granted? i just wanna see what my chances are to actually get the connecting room. thanks

The only time we have not gotten them was at the Contemporary. Disney will do their best to give them to you, but sometimes it is just not possible. Is it something that will make or break your vacation? If so you might want to look into booking an All-Star Suite or renting a Villa.

How old are your kids? If they are young, I think they will guarantee a connecting room.

We have not had a problem with getting the connecting rooms yet. We are a family of 6. Two adults and four kids. I would hate to not be able to be connected to my husband and younger kids but, we are normally only in our room to sleep. We have been 6 times since 2004 with our 7th coming up and have not had and issue yet.

I'm not familiar with the rules on connecting rooms, however, due to the size of our family (5) and the ages (3-11), we were guaranteed connecting rooms at AKL. The word "guaranteed" is on the reservation. The CM told us that due to the size and ages, provided there were enough connectable rooms at the time of our booking, we were able to do this. There were enough at the time we book, so based on what we were told (and what is on our reservation) we will have connecting rooms.

We have requested and gotten connecting rooms on all of our trips. Some trips have been 3 adults 2 kids and some have been 4 adults 2 kids. We may just be lucky but we haven't had a problem yet at any resort. (you can see where we have stayed below) My boys are now 10 and 13 - 5 and 8 on the first trip.

That CM would have to be wrong - sorry, Buzz! Especially since rooms are not assigned until some time between actual arrival and a few days prior to arrival, and because any given room or room type's availability can be affected by a number of sources - such availability at booking could likely not be a guarantee of actually getting connecting rooms. This is especially true when there are enough adults that one can stay in each room, whether it connects to the other room or not.

Let's use the KaytieEldr Resort and Spa as an example :)
- We have 100 rooms.
- Fifty of those rooms have connecting-to-the-next-room inside doors.
- - Thus, there are twenty-five pairs of connecting rooms
- Five of the connecting rooms are handicap-accessible
- Tonight, all five of the accessible rooms are booked and occupied by Guests who need those facilities but whose parties fit in one room each
- Now we're down to 45 connecting rooms, but only twenty available pairs of connecting rooms
- Twenty-five parties arriving today have requested connecting rooms; only twenty parties can be accommodated*.
- As a family-oriented hotelier, my room assigner knows that the mom traveling solo with six kids needs connecting rooms more than the couple traveling with two kids and the husband's parents, or the four adult friends traveling together, etc, and will assign the rooms accordingly.

*Technically, 22 parties can be accommodated - but two of those parties will be occupying four of the five rooms that connect to the already-occupied accessible rooms, and not rooms that connect to each other.

Just wanted to add my booking experience recently to shed more light on this topic. I recently tried to book the GF in October with the 40% discount. We are family with 3 small children, and I requested connecting rooms. She said that since the kids outnumber the adults, connecting rooms would be guaranteed. When we tried to book it, though, she said that all of the connecting rooms were gone. She could, however, get us non-connecting rooms.

Have no idea where this info. fits into everyone's experiences, but thought I'd add it to the conversation, for what it's worth. Who knows, perhaps she was wrong? This may be absolutely wrong info, but thought I'd mention it.

Seems like people have experienced not getting their connecting rooms even when kids outnumbered adults....

(BTW, we ended up not making a reservation because the dates just didn't work out for us).

Good luck with everyone making these requests!

Well, reason it out.
While it's absolutely NOT the ideal situation, if there are at least two adults in the party, each could stay in separate rooms with some of the minors.
Room capacity = 4
Party A = Adult male, adult female, 15 YO, 12 YO, 9 YO, 6 YO.
Party B = Adult female, 15 YO, 12 YO, 9 YO, 9 YO, 6 YO.
In both parties, the children outnumber the adults.
You have ONE pair of connecting rooms available the day both parties are checking in.
It would be reasonable that Party B, which has only one member legally able to enter into the room rental contract, should get the connecting rooms. The adults in Party A can, as unappealing as it may be, each stay in a separate room with some of the children.

Problem is, there is a big difference between guaranteed and guaranteed if available.

I have also been told every time we have booked that we are guaranteed connecting rooms because of my kids ages and only having 2 adults with six kids. It was also stated on our paperwork and we have never had a problem. Only time we didn't get connecting rooms was when it was my parents and my husband and I (before kids) and we stayed at Port Orleans. The rooms were close though so it was cool.
