We're staying at ASMo for 2 nights in September. My dad and stepmom decided to join us and have made a separate reservation. Will we be able to request connecting rooms with separate reservations? Should we cancel our current reservations and make a new one with the 2 rooms?

You can call reservations and have them mark the two reservations as traveling together and wanting connecting rooms. They won’t guarantee connecting rooms but they would try to put you close together.

Thanks! If we change it to a single reservation, would that increase our chances?

From what i've been told, no. There is no way to guarantee a connecting room. I'm in a similar travel party situation, we're considering renting DVC for a one/two bedroom. Or taking our chances at Pop, and hope we get connecting rooms.

We had booked two rooms under one reservation for the trip we took two weeks ago and we got connecting rooms. It was really great to have two rooms under one reservation because everyone was assigned to both rooms and our MB's worked to unlock both resort rooms doors. We had booked the Magical Express and all of the luggage tags had the one reservation number and were delivered to one room. We were traveling with our son and two grandsons and the connecting room worked out great for us. I would book two rooms under one reservation again if I wanted to have connecting rooms.

I’m fairly certain you would only be able to book 2 rooms under 1 reservation if you had only 2 adults and 3 or more kids. If there are 3 adults I believe you have to book 2 separate reservations.

I had three adults and two kids and I was able to book two rooms under one reservation. I had to call reservations in order to do it.

I think it depends on how much financial transparency you want between both parties. I went with my in laws and we had separate reservations...it would have driven me bonkers to see how late they waited to pay their balance on the package.

It also would have driven them bonkers to see our balance during the stay....

It was easy enough to link both reservations, I called and had "traveling with so and so" added to both reservations. When I faxed in the room request I also included "traveling with so and so reservation #" Primary request is connecting rooms.

My best friend and I have separate reservations each trip and are linked through Friends and Family. We have always had connecting rooms. My father-in-law is always on our reservation. We have had connecting rooms all but once. I know it is not guaranteed, but we have had good luck.

I have had a single reservation and separate linked reservations. It hasn't seemed to make a difference in our experience. Sometimes we get connecting rooms, sometimes not. It does seem to help if it is the only request. When connecting is especially important to us, I only request connecting rooms.

Even this would not affect the possibility of connecting rooms.

I believe they prioritize first connecting rooms for reservations for adults who plan on having the kids in the connecting rooms. We’ve had success getting connecting rooms with separate reservations which were linked. But I don’t think they will ever guarantee it like the PP stated. They just won’t know until your arrival day how many of these requests there will be.

Also, this may not be a big deal but a request like this might limit your ability to get into a specific building or view if you’ve requested such a thing.

I’m curious. How would they know what a guest may be planning?

When I’ve looked into this option in the past I was told if we were to book 2 rooms for 2 adults, 2 children and have it noted on the reservation we want the connecting room for the kids, they prioritize this over two separate families having connecting rooms. But even in this situation, they would not make a guarantee the rooms would be connected.

We put this on our faxed room request (touring plans) and were given connecting rooms. We had two separate reservations for our family and the grandparents.
