Connecting rooms and cancelling

Another recent thread got me thinking of my own situation: My parents are joining us and we have two connecting rooms. In one room my parents and my DS14 are registered. I'm in the other with my DH and other DS8. Each room has a max occupancy of 3 pp. If my parents cancel would my DS14 still be able to occupy that room. Would we have to pay more money since there would no longer be two adults in that room?

Yes. You would be charged for 2 adults in the cabin (port taxes and fees for only one though - and only one person's gratuities). And unless they are connecting, I think you would have to move yourself or your husband into that cabin - pretty sure unless it is connecting cabins (and possibly even if it is) there has to be someone over 21 in each cabin.

So even if my parents were passed the point of recieving any money back meaning disney still recieced full payment from them, we would still have to pay extra?

If you had trip insurance that covered cancellations, you'd get the money back, and it would be determined that your son would be sailing as as single. However, I believe that's moot - you or your husband would have to move into that other room, as DCL requires an adult on all reservations.

As to whether you would have to pay single supplement, if your parents cancelled, I don't know. I know on Carnival you would. If you just had your parents be no-shows, you'd get back their port fees/taxes, but forfeit their fares.

I'm pretty sure if your parents cancelled it would forfeit the entire reservation bumping your child since Disney does not allow name changes you would not be able to transfer your parents name for you or your spouse. Pretty sure you would have to rebook. You could also move your room to a 4 person and add your child.

"Minors under the age of 18 not traveling with a parent or legal guardian must be accompanied by an adult 21 years of age or older in the same stateroom. "

"Changes to the vacation commencement date or changes of Guest names will be considered cancellations."

Disney policy is as long as at least one name on the original reservation remains, you can change out all the others. So, if grandparents were changed out for mom or dad, they could keep the room, if the child was on the original reservation.

Where do you see that Disney doesn't allow name changes?

From DCL website under cancellations/refunds

Also from wdwinfo

"Cancellations must be made by telephone or in writing. Changes to the vacation commencement date or changes of Guest names will be considered cancellations.

Changes are not permitted once you're within the penalty period. You will need to cancel, pay the penalty that is in effect and rebook the new date."

Yeah, that's not very clear. But, in general, they are referring to total name changes (as in all the guests in a room, and substituting new names for the same number of guests). That's considered a "cancellation".

But, if you call DCL and say your want to make a "change" and change out one or two names, as long as there's one name that remains from the original reservation, they'll do it. I know there's a small charge for doing it after the paid in full date, but not sure about before that.
