Connecting Flights... What about my bags?

Here's a question...

We're flying to Orlando with a connection, but on the same airline. Will I have to go claim my luggage and check it AGAIN during our connecting stop? Or do I get to stay in the gate area and just wait for my next flight?

Thanks! I'm new at this! (Can you tell?) :rotfl:

Normally, when you take connecting flights you don't have to mess with your checked luggage. You don't have to leave the gate area unless your connecting flight leaves from a different terminal.

However, since you're flying in from Canada, I have no idea how that works -- I would assume you clear customs at your final destination and not a mid-way stop, but check with your fellow countrymen on that one, 'cuz I could be wrong.

Just go to your next flight, they well transfer it for you.

Actually, we'll be flying out of NY! Thanks for the info!

Your luggage will be tansferred for you by the airline staff to any and all connecting flights. You just need to pick it up at your final destination.

Here is how it works for MOST Canadians....

1) flying nonstop from a major Canadian airport to the US - preclear US Customs/Immigration in Canada, check luggage after customs, fly to destination, retrieve luggage

2) flying from a major Canadian airport to the US, with a connection in the US - preclear US Customs/Immigration in Canada, check luggage after customs, fly to destination, retrieve luggage (Airline transfers baggage at connectin point for you)

3) flying from a Canadian airport, connecting at another Canadian airport, and then flying to the US (ie Calgary - Toronto - Orlando) - check luggage in Calgary, fly to Toronto, reclaim luggage, take luggage through US Customs/Immigration in Toronto, recheck luggage, go through security again, board flight. Retrieve luggage again in Orlando

As you can see, option 1 and 2 are much easier if flight schedules allow
