Me and my 7yr old DS are scheduled to leave Saturday morning but will have to get on a connecting flight. I am not too concerned about leaving from the local airport but would hate to get stranded at the connection point.

If your flight was connecting, and this soon, would you do it???

Thanks
Heidi

If at all possible, I'd reschedule my trip. Even if "normal" flight operations resume tomorrow, the next several days will be hectic and stressful for air travelers. There are many stranded passengers that will have to be accomodated. IMHO, flights will be absolutely full and service personnel stretched to their limits. I think it will take awhile to get schedules coordinated again. You may very well get stranded at a connecting airport.

It appears that the airlines are waiving the penalties to rebook or obtain a refund. I'd take advantage of that and go another time, especially if the trip were with my young child. JMHO. Best wishes.

I would cancel as well. I don't think that would be a good thing for a young child to see and go through. Maybe you can drive. I've thought about that for our Oct trip even if we lose the ticket $$ for all four of us. I'm going to wait and see how it plays out.

See my "Delta statement" for their policies.

Thanks for the input. Ive decided to call it off. It was a surprise trip for my DS so he wont be dissapointed. And with air travel still down as of now, there is no way I am going to try and go.

Other things you can do but only if the airlines will do it with no charge:

1. Ask to modify your reservation so the connection time is longer (try for at least two and a half hours). You can stand by for an earlier flight at the connection point if the first flight gets in without any problems.

2. Ask to modify your reservation to be a non-stop.

3. If the two ideas above don't work, and when you get to the airport the first flight is delayed and you might miss your connection, repeat the two requests above and if that still fails, ask for a refund of the entire ticket.

Do not agree to pay extra for any of the above accommodations.

You want to create evidence that if you foresee a connection problem and offer the airline a chance to address your concern. Then if you are still stranded overnight at the connection point. you have a much better chance of getting a free hotel room.

Get the name of every person you talk to, whether on the phone or at a ticket counter.
