Connecting flight experiences?

We have always collected and re checked in outbound but only once on the return flight.

I went BA last time when I did a connecting flight. We should have left at 7.30am. Left 8.15am arrived 9.15am. NY flight was 10.30 but we were chauffeured thru to the next terminal and all 5 of us on the flight arrived in NY to discover they hadn't transferred our luggage. You should leave 3 hours between flights to allow them to transfer. THe same happened on the way home and the courier guy said that all the lost luggage he delivered was gatwick and heathrow where the grounds staff didn't have the 3 hours to unload the luggage and sort out for the follow thru flight. So ensure you have plenty time when going thru to ensure your luggage or else ensure you have overnight and clean clothes in handluggage.

I believe that heaven2006 is talking about his/her RETURN flight...

Therefore he/she does not need to clear customs or immigration.

If his/her flights are on the same airline OR an airline with a baggage interlining agreement (for example AA will check baggage through to BA flights, UA will check baggage through to Lufthansa flights... if two airlines are in the same airline alliance, they will normally check baggage through), then the baggage can be through-checked to your home airport. You cannot through-check luggage going INTO the US (because you need to go through immigration and customs at point of entry to the US), but you can going OUT of the US...

Philidelphia IS a point of exit where the new "US Visit" exit procedures are in affect (http://www.dhs.gov/xtrvlsec/programs/editorial_0525.shtm). So you will need to scan your passport, have your fingerprints and photo taken at a "US Visit" booth in Philidelphia before boarding your flight out of the US (the booth should be in the gate area).

Is it me or do there seem to be a lot of threads asking the same questions recently...

Hello everyone

I really need help with the chose of my connecting flights on our way home. We have 2 choices:

One flight departing at 2:35 PM arrive at 4:55 PM
Another flight departing at 4:40 PM arrive at 6:59 PM

Both flights arrive to Philadelphia. My flight to Portugal depart at 8:20 PM. Do you think that 81 min is not enough to catch a connection? I only done one connection once but both flights were delayed so we had not any problems. What do we have to do in Philadelphia? (related to immigration, baggage, etc..) Also, i think i'll have to change termminals from C to A. (i'm not sure)

Before all, sorry for asking questions already replied in other topics... but my main question was about the time needed between flights and about the Philadelphia airport itselft and i haven't seen any thread with the same question...

Thanks for the help! Yes, I was talking about my return flight. We will use US Airways so I believe our baggage will go directly to our destination (at least it was what happened in the only connection i've made, but it was in Europe so I wasn't sure if the same happens to US). Sure I will book directly through the US Airways website (i found the best price with them!). I'm still undecided of what flight to choose, but I think I'll have to choose the first one. I didn't know about the immigration procedures on return home. I thought it was only needed on the first arrival to US.

Finally, I'm a "she" :goodvibes

I didn't know about the immigration procedures on return home. I thought it was only needed on the first arrival to US.

The immigration is new and only trialed at some airports and sea ports. We have flown out of a few of the places trailling it over the past 3 or 4 years and have come across it quite a few times (most recently flying out of Denver 3 weeks ago...). It is INCREDIBLY quick and simple to use - we have never had a queue to use the booth.

Finally, I'm a "she" :goodvibes

Sorry, wasn't sure :)

I suppose that "heaven" sounds more feminine than masculine, but you never know...
