Connecting cabins ever upgraded?

If you have two connecting cabins, are your chances for an upgrade pretty much zero? That's what I'm assuming, but curious if anyone has found this to happen. I'm also assuming chances of upgrades are even lower on more heavily booked cruises (we have 2 connecting category 9s on the 11/22-11/29 Wonder over Thanksgiving). Are my assumptions accurate?

Complementary upgrade chances are pretty close to zero for everyone except those booking cat 12 with 4 people (since they hold only 3; they won't over book any other category that way). But I have seen on these boards where connecting rooms got an upgrade. Don't have an idea how often it occurs.

We've had connecting cabins 3 times and have never received an upgrade and we've had a different category each time (8, 9 or 10). That said, I have asked your question before and have heard of connecting cabin upgrades, but they are rare.

I have been on two cruises without connecting cabins but cabins next door to each other and both times been upgraded.

We have been upgraded twice. Once when we were booked into a Category 9 (to a 6) and once when we were booked in a 12 (to a 9). The basic rule of thumb is that, if you get an upgrade it will be to the next cabin level. For example, those in inside cabins would get upgraded to a porthole, those with portholes to a verandah, etc.

As for connecting cabins, they are sometimes upgraded but it is rare. Actually, upgrades are far more rare than they seem on this board. It is definitely best to book a cabin you will be happy with and then hope for a bit of pixie dust.

On our 12/16/2007 4-night wonder cruise, we had connecting cat 10 (spr). One of which was upgraded to a cat 7. We declined it because we need the cabins to be connected and the cat 7 was too far away at the other end of the ship. At check-in at port canaveral, the cast member joked that it was the first time they had a cat 10 to cat 7 upgrade declined. I suggested that they should have upgraded both cabins...

Been upgraded three times with connecting. Twice a connecting cat. 8 to a connecting 6 and once a connecting 6 upgraded to a connecting cat. 4. The other times we have booked 6s and stayed in our 6s.:thumbsup2

Thanks for all the replies. Two years ago we had connecting cat 6s during off season cruise in October and really enjoyed them. This time around we are going Thanksgiving and booked porthole rooms instead to keep the cost about the same. My wife and kids actually really liked the big portholes (my cousin had one next door to ours on our last cruise) and aren't anticipating being disappointed, but I must admit I am already missing the idea of putting the kids to bed and sitting out on that balcony at night.

I'm certainly not expecting an upgrade, but was curious as to whether it was in the realm of possibility.

Also planning to get to the port super early, so I could always ask about paid upgrades, but there again I'm guessing that on a Holiday cruise there will be very few rooms - if any- that go unsold, let alone 2 connecting rooms...
