Congratulations to Elton John

Elton and David will be able to hire someone to help them. I know people who had children when they were in their late 40's. It was fine. Granted Elton is older. As far as temper, there's nothing like a child to teach people patience. He has never had to worry about extending himself to a child. It's amazing how the most selfish, self-centered people can mellow when they become parents.
Good luck and God Bless their new family.

I mean his best friend at the time, Bernie Taupin, actually wrote the song "The ***** is Back" about Elton. He is know for his little outbursts and temper.
Dang. People can change. That song was written thirty five years ago. John was 28; probably not nearly ready to be a parent. Even if he still has "little outbursts and [a] temper", I bet he's not the only parent in the world who does ;).

Elton John is a fav of mine, but I think he and his partner are to old. They have all the money in the world to help take care of this child, but all that money won't make either man a younger parent. I think this child will be raised by nannies.

When he is 18, EJ will be 81 and his partner will be 66. Not for nothing, with EJ's previous lifestyle...will he even make it to 81??

I do wish them the best.
Well, Hugh Hefner's made it to 84 and hasn't led the most pure lifestyle ;) Different from Elton John's, but certainly not without risk. But - not intending to sound morbid - there's no guarantee ANY parent of ANY age will survive to their child's adulthood.

I LOVE that they stuck the name Levon in there. It's one of my favorite songs by him. It would have been nice if one of the names could have been Ryan, after Ryan White. But I'm very happy for them. I, too believe that Elton has overcome any issues he had in the past. Certainly haven't heard anything lately.

Yeah, well he continued those little outbursts until very recently and for all we know may still be having them. I am sorry but unless he has completely changed, and I hope he has, no child should be brought into that environment. Really the only reason he got that child is because of who he is and his money. No judge would ever allow a child to be adopted by someone like him.

He did an interview not too long ago and was very open about his problems and what he is like. So no, I don't think most parents have the same type of outbursts, or complete temper tantrums, (his words not mine) that he did and probably still does.

The man is a very talented and I worshiped him as a teenager and still do love his music, that doesn't make him parent material. Never will.

I love that he was named "Levon" too!!! lol! Great irony. Wonder if the New York Times said "God is dead" somewhere in it? Agreed, it would have been nice to honor Ryan but gosh the child has several names as it is, eh? Zachary Jackson Levon Parrish-John. what a mouthful.

the Ulkranian law does not allow adoptions where there is more than 45 years between the age of the child and the age of the adopting parents.

You're right. Many countries have restrictions regarding the age of the adopting parent vs. age of the child.

Elton John is a talented musician and I love his work. With that being said, he is a quick tempered man that has had an unstable personality for years. I hope this child is not on the receiving end of that.

I agree, he has often seemed peevish, and rather childish about things.

Many people have children that aren't what many would call "parent material" and turn out to be excellent parents. For many, something just happens when you first hold that little bundle that just makes everything change.

There is no reason not to think that this will happen with Elton John.

I really don't see how some public outbursts in the media speak to a person's parenting skills. If we had cameras following us around everyday, I'm sure we wouldn't always look perfect.

I think they will be very good parents and that child is very lucky. Elton has always been a charitable and kind man... and he has already been changed by a child. In the 80's, he stood by Ryan White (the boy with AIDS that was being discriminated against). He credits his relationship with Ryan as having saved him and has been sober for the 20 years since that time. He set up an AIDS foundation in remembrance of Ryan White that has taken in over 125 million dollars. I think that speaks much more to the type of caring parent he will be than some silly TMZ type videos of him.

And on a side note - The Last Song is my favorite song by him. He wrote that just after Ryan White's death.

The last time I looked, nobody was taking children away from all those people that had them naturally and are horrible parents. This child will be loved and well taken care of, I am sure.

Congratulations to Elton and David.

And what does that have to do with Elton adopting a child. We can't stop people from having kids that shouldn't, but we can stop an adoption.

Sorry, but if you think that any one Elton's age and with his background could just go in and adopt a child, without being who he is, I have some great swamp land down state I would like to sell to you.

You can be sure all you want that the child will be well taken care of, I am of the opinion that no child should be put in his care. He is too old, has a terrible past. I think his partner is probably a great guy and I can see no reason that he shouldn't have a child, but not Elton. Did any of you watch the extended interview with him a couple of years ago? Sorry but no way should he have a kid to raise. Anyone else and they would not have been given the right to adopt a child. Again, as a culture celebs get special treatment, because of who and what they are and how much money they have. I pray for the child.

:rotfl: You got that right! (bolded) I may have some serious 'splainin' to do when dd is being a normal 12 year old girl and seriously getting on my nerves.

And you are right, Elton John has proven himself to be a good man. I wish him much happiness with David and their child.

As far as I know, Elton didn't "get" this child. This child is the product of a surrogate mother and either Elton or his partner could very well be the father (sperm donor). I certainly don't know the specifics, but this is an absolute possibility.

I don't think my dumb butt sister who dropped out of high school, is a chain smoker, has a series of live in boyfriends, and can barely hold a job should have a child...but yet no one can tell her she can't. Same for Elton and David.

Congrats to the new family.

Apologies, I thought he had adopted as in the child actually born and put up for adoption not a surrogate.. Oh well, my opinion still stands. Yep you have to pass a test for just about anything, but any person out there can just have a baby. Too bad, maybe there wouldn't be so many messed up kids if there were some type of test you had to take. Oh well.

Yes, they used a surrogate. Anyone willing to take the risk and can afford it has the same option. :goodvibes
I wish them the very best. This child is wanted and loved. That is what matters most. :lovestruc

I pray for the child.

Will you pray for my child also? You see, he is adopted, and I have not led a pure life. I have made mistakes and done things that I am not proud of. I can stand up and admit that I am neither a perfect person or parent. As such, I am raising an imperfect child who makes mistakes and misbehaves. The poor thing is probably living a life of quiet torment and anguish. So please, pray for both children.

I'm sure there will be nannies aplenty to deal with the majority of the "hassles" that tend to aggravate parents and the Dads will get to enjoy the fun stuff. At least until the boy's a teen, and then look out!

Actually, they have stated that they are not going to put the raising of their child in the hands of nannies. It looks like Sir Elton may finally be settling down.

Good for them. He's waited a long time to do this. I"m sure they wouldn't go through the whole surrogate process if they weren't indeed ready for it.
