Image Credit: Dave M. Benett/Getty ImagesNearly four decades ago, Elton John sang about a man who “was born a pauper to a pawn on a Christmas Day” in his classic hit “Levon.” That song has now proved prophetic: EW has confirmed US Weekly‘s report that Sir Elton and his partner, David Furnish, welcomed a baby boy on Dec. 25. Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John was born via surrogate in California, weighing 7 lbs. 15 ozs. and measuring 22 inches long. The birth comes a year after John and Furnish attempted to adopt a young Ukrainian boy but were denied by that country’s government. The pair were joined in a civil partnership ceremony in England in 2005.

I wish the Ukrainian government had allowed them to adopt that little boy they were wanting initially. I read in a news article that the little boy has AIDS. I just think what a tremendous impact it would have had on that child's life if he'd been adopted by a family with money and resources to help deal with his illness.

I don't know if the reason they said no was because the child had AIDS or if it was because Elton and his partner are gay.

I just hope that child isn't going to sit in an orphanage or institution for a long period of time, when he could have had a home.

I am in agreement with you. I don't know why they didn't allow it, but what a great dis-service that was for the boy. Can you imagine what could have happened if... more awareness, more research, and maybe more children with AIDS would be adopted by others.

I believe the child has turned out not to be hiv but whether or not its true seemingly his mother is working hard to beat the addictions that lost her child and the Ulkranian law does not allow adoptions where there is more than 45 years between the age of the child and the age of the adopting parents. So gay or not he is too old. Also I don't blame them for not allowing it why doe famous people think they have the right to swan in and take a child just because the country is not a rich one.

Man! They are going to be reeeeealy tired. I was 42 when my son was born and I could hardly keep up. Congrats and I hope you have a really good nanny!

I personally have mixed feelings being that Elton and his partner are 63 and 48 respectively. It is just my personal belief that becoming a parent past 40 is not favorable to the child in many cases due to age and death, the child missing out on much when born/adopted to elderly parents.

I do however wish Sir John , his partner and child all the best and happiness in the world

Too awesome for the new little one and his parents! I can see him being a great parent and that little man will be showered with love.

This makes me think of one of my favorite Elton John songs, "You'll Be Blessed." I used to hear it all the time when I was going through infertility treatment. This was probably 15 years ago (or so) and I believe it was abouit his desire to someday be a father. I'm sure this child will be blessed indeed. That song always makes me weep.

While Elton is a bit long in the tooth to have a kid, at least his spouse is still in his 40's. My DH's parents were in their late 40's when they adopted him, and barring the sorts of things that can happen to any parent at any age, the odds are that a parent in their late 40's when a child is born will live to see their child into adulthood and beyond.

At least with the money in the Furnish-John household, there will be nannies to help with all the things that cause exhaustion and sleep depravation!

So congrats to them :-)!

Blessed
Available on the album Made In England

Music: Elton John
Lyrics: Bernie Taupin

Hey you, you're a child in my head
You haven't walked yet
Your first words have yet to be said
But I swear you'll be blessed
I know you're still just a dream
your eyes might be green
Or the bluest that I've ever seen
Anyway you'll be blessed
And you, you'll be blessed
You'll have the best
I promise you that
I'll pick a star from the sky
Pull your name from a hat
I promise you that, promise you that, promise you that
You'll be blessed
I need you before I'm too old
To have and to hold
To walk with you and watch you grow
And know that you're blessed

Congratulations :thumbsup2! Love EJ's music and can only imagine the love, blessings, and fillfullment, they'll all bring each other!! :lovestruc

I am not sure the any child should have Elton John as a parent and no it is NOTHING to do with him being gay. I know he has kicked his habit, but he was never the most stable person in the world. I mean his best friend at the time, Bernie Taupin, actually wrote the song "The ***** is Back" about Elton. He is know for his little outbursts and temper.

Having said that, I grew up loving Elton John and still do, but I really do worry about what type of environment that child will grow up in.

Elton John is a talented musician and I love his work. With that being said, he is a quick tempered man that has had an unstable personality for years. I hope this child is not on the receiving end of that.

I just saw this after I posted. We had the same thoughts:lmao:

Elton John is a fav of mine, but I think he and his partner are to old. They have all the money in the world to help take care of this child, but all that money won't make either man a younger parent. I think this child will be raised by nannies.

When he is 18, EJ will be 81 and his partner will be 66. Not for nothing, with EJ's previous lifestyle...will he even make it to 81??

I do wish them the best.

That's what I was thinking. Elton John isn't exactly young these days, I think he's about my age, but I wish them the very best!!

Oops, maybe he's older than me.
