:confused3 Ok, I teach high IQ kids in grades 2-5 so following simple directions on how to iron on these transfers to my shirts should be really, really easy, right? WRONG!!! :rolleyes2

When it comes to anything using my hands I am a freaking idiot! Someone PLEASE help me figure out these instructions:

Ok directions say. . .
print on the side with the green line
cut image to size
oreheat press to 390 to 400 (is this high or what?)
place shirt on platen and press lightly to remove wrinkles and moisture (platen? what is this?)
place image on shirt
lightly press for 38 to 50 seconds

then what? and can this be done with an iron? I am SO not good with my hands!

first time I printed the design on the opposite side from the green line. . . then read the directions when the design wouldn't come off. Last night I reprinted them where they were ON the side with the green line and still it didn't stick. What am I doing wrong? I've got 2 weeks to get these done but only have till Saturday when my family is coming down to figure out the RIGHT way to do them because I printed up the designs and they are taking them home to transfer iron ons themselves. HELP!!! PLEASE!!!!

thanks,
Rhonda

Rhonda- are the transfers for light or dark shirts? This will make a difference.

I am bit confused by the line - "can this be done with an iron" - does that mean you did not use an iron? If not - that is the problem - you need to use your iron with no steam to press - if you have a formica countertop - youshould do it there - your ironing board is not the best surface as it absorbs the heat

Is oreheat really "preheat?"

Yes, do use an iron :teeth: with high heat and don't use the steam setting.

A platen is a backing, probably a firm backing, or the glass surface of a scanner. I usually use a pressing cloth, too, or just substitute a cloth diaper.

UUGGGHHHHH!!!! Ok, I tried AGAIN to no avil. I cut out the design, and placed it on a WHITE t-shirt. . . took the iron on hot and placed it on the transfer pressing real hard until the count of 60 until I had gone over all of it for 60 seconds in each spot. Did it with a baking pan between the front and back of the shirt ON the counter. Let it cool to the touch and pealed it back and STILL no transfer on the shirt!!!! What did I do wrong?

We need more information. What kind of transfer sheets are you using? It sounds like you are using transfers for dark shirts. They have a backing that you have to peel off before ironing. You cut out the design, remove the backing (which can be tricky to get off) place the parchment paper that came with the package over the design, then iron. I use a craft table to iron on it has a formica top, others have been successful using a wooden cutting board or a pizza stone. The pan would transfer heat and probably isn't the best option. If you are using a different kind of transfer paper, post what kind and I'll try to help.

Those directions sound like the paper was made to use on a heat press for shirts. The platen would be the part that holds the shirt.

Unfortunately, I can't help with how to use it with an iron or whether that will work.

Are there any other directions? Do you print your design reversed? If the design is not to be reversed when printed, then I agree that there may be a backing that needs to be peeled away.
