So much has changed at Wdw since our last visit 5 years ago. We booked at a suite in Flamingo Crossings for next week but when we tried to purchase tickets to the parks, the ones we wanted are not available for our dates…Magic Kingdom and MGM. It’s very disappointing but but I didn’t know about all the new changes or would have booked earlier. Now we decided to do Universal instead but keeping our suite for 2 days vs 4 then moving to the Royal Pacific (for the express) .
I know we’ll probably go to Disney Springs but are people not staying at the resorts permitted to visit say the boardwalk? I’d also like to ride the monorail just once. Any idea anyone?

You can visit the Boardwalk, but you won't be able to park there unless you have an ADR for one of the restaurants. If you're going to Disney Springs anyway, you could take the bus to the Boardwalk from Disney Springs. You can definitely ride the monorail. Again, parking at a resort probably won't happen, but you could park at the ticket and transportation center and hop on the monorail.

If you are driving, you will need a dining reservation to park at a resort. Otherwise, no issue at all using Disney transportation to visit where you want to go.

You can visit any resort by using Disney transportation. Parking is restricted at the resorts unless you have an ADR. Maybe go to Disney Springs & catch a Disney bus to the boardwalk. From there you can take a bus to Magic Kingdom & get on the monorail. At your last hotel stop, get off & catch a bus back to Disney Springs.

As the PP suggested, you can park at the TTC, but you will have to pay the daily parking fee. I am not familiar with the hotel you are staying at. But if they have free shuttle, you can take that to MK & ride the monorail. Then take your shuttle back from the TTC

The new park pass reservation system is a downer for sure and sadly there's no sign of it going away. It's the only theme park we visit that still has it and it's a major inconvenience for guests. I presume it's benefitting Disney given they're staffing issues but it's lame.

It sure is!! Along with no more fast pass or dining plan! I don’t understand the Genie at all but some I know said it was the worst. I discovered a lot while trying to plan this year, no more free parking at Dis resorts either sealed the deal for me to stay offsite, at least I can ride the monorail :(. Thanks everyone for your help.

The free parking has been gone a while, I want to say maybe 2017 or 2018 they started that but it's frustrating when no other them park does this and even sillier that you can park hop after 2pm.

I stayed at PO Riverside in 2017 and if memory serves it was free so must have started 2018. Are you saying you can’t park hop til after 2? I didn’t even look into that since we weren’t getting hoppers this year (but have in the past). Ridiculous! We’ll have to get our Disney fix at Disney springs, a monorail ride and Disney waffles they serve for breakfast at my hotel lol.

The Universal hotels, I don’t know about all but some do charge parking and always have. I know the RPR does but at least you get unlimited express pass.

Correct, you can hop but only after 2pm. Essentially that's what we do if the park we want to really be at has no park reservations. Typically it's easy to get AK and Epcot we we'd book those and then just hop to MK or DHS.

Ok so hold on, are you saying I can hop over to Hollywood Studios even if there’s no availability? That could change everything.

park hopping in a nutshell

Make a reservation for any park. You must tap into that park at some point during the day, you can just tap in and walk back out if you want. At 2 pm you can hop to another park, they say as long as that park isn't full. You can not hop into the 2nd park unless you have tapped into the 1st park. There has only been one time since this started that a park was too full to hop to and that was MK for about 2 hours on the 50th. Otherwise, doesn't matter if there are no reservations available for the park you want to hop to, you still should be able to.

Please read the everything park hopping and everything park reservations stickies to learn all you need to know before you go. A lot has changed and it’s important to not be surprised when you get there!!
