Confused?? New rule question

I know DVC has put a limit on how many times a owner can transfer out. Is ther a limit to how many times you can transfer in?
I ask because, I am planning a HUGE family trip. I have already had a transfer IN. Can I have more points transfered in as more of my family seem to want to join us on this trip? Or should I just direct them to the RENT/ thread and have them rent for themselves?

Thanks! :confused3

This is not a new rule, it is just being newly enforced. The limit is one transfer per year, in or out.

It's one transfer per use year - either in or out but not both.

Based on all the problems reported here re family and friends cancelling out and leaving the DVC member holding the bag so to speak, I'd recommend you help the "late deciders" make their own arrangements - either via CRO or the Rent/Trade Board.

Be sure to explain that renting a DVC reservation is NONREFUNDABLE and DO NOT OFFER TO BE THEIR TA. Give advice, but do not do the work! If they cancel out, you can be sympathetic, but the money/points lost will be thiers, not yours.

Best wishes -

Does per year mean from January 1? Also when you transfer points do they retain their home resort advantage? I'm confused. Another words if someone transferred 25 OKW points into my acct I could reserve OKW at 11 months? Other then that are they bankable, etc?

It means per Use Year. If you have a June Use Year and have points transferred in, you would not be able to do another transfer until next June.

Points are supposed to retain their original home resort and Use Year status. If you have points transferred into your account specifically to make a reservation at 11 months at that resort, be sure to have MS notate that for you. They will liley have to manually track those points when you go to make the reservation, but they will do that for you if pressed. (IMO, that should be automatic and members should not have to remind MS to do that - but be prepared.) In reality, the points transferred have usually assumed the status of the contract into which they were moved.

Transferred points may be banked into the following Use Year. (That is also a change from the original policy where transferred points could NOT be banked.)

Thank you. I'm just mulling my options. I recently transferred a couple of points free of charge to a member after we both discovered we had a common aquaintance. It was the first and only transfer I ever did and it was literally a couple of points..It was also right before the rule change.
I plan to sell at least one of my two contracts. Is there a way to be assured they would put all the transferred points in the same contract? Sounds crazy but in looking at my account they seem to take some from here, some from there. I can't figure out their methodology. It makes each contract less valuable. Do they do that deliberately?

You may specify which contract you want points transferred into if that's important to you. You can also specify which contract points should come from when making reservations if it is important to you. Unless you give MS specific instruction, they will use whatever their standard procedure calls for.

For most members, it doesn't matter which contract the points come from when making reservations since all components of the membership are combined into the one entity. If it's important to you how the points are distributed within a single membership, be sure to instruct MS how you want your contract used - that is within your direct control.

Thanks for your advice. It never mattered to me before. Due to a desire to sell at least one I realize half my points for my trip came from one contract half from another. Many were borrowed so they could have come from the same one... :confused3

If you sell one of your contract be sure to set closing after any pending reservations expire since once you sell a contract all existing reservations on that sold contract will be canceled.
