Hello,
I am a brand new DVC Member and I am thrilled. However, I am a little confused about something. I have been reading my New Member handbook that I received in the mail. I was reading about the perks that we can take adevantage of, like dining, etc. But I don't understand the paragraph that staes-''Although these offers aren't part of you Ownership interest purchase in the DVC resort, they add to the magic of your Membership experience''.
What does that mean, they aren't part of our ownership interest? How do we use these discounts? If anyone has any advise for me that would be great because I am a little confused right now. :earboy2:
Thanks for your help!

It means that the "perks" may be changed or discontinued at anytime, and are not actually "part of what you purchased", but are offered as a courtesy to DVC members by WDW. Legally, we've purchased the right to use our home resort in the manner discribed, and that is all we've actually "bought".

To use your dining discounts and other member "perks" show your DVC membership card.

I think it means they are perks that we get because we are members, not a right or something we purchased. In other words, enjoy the discounts, but they are subjet to change. Most discounts would be set and change yearly, but they can change them at any time, like suspending the Oliva discount during the holiday season.

I'm new too, but I think you just have to show your membership card to get the discount. Your room key with DVC member on it also sounds like it often works.

Thank you so much for clarifying that for me! I feel so much better about that now. It makes sense now that you've explained it.

(hey, how do you the trip countown timer, and the pictures with your name on here?)

I would assume it means the discounts and perks are not a given and can be changed, added upon, or completely removed at any time. Just because you own dvc doesnt mean you will always have a dining discount or the AP discount

I could be wrong but thats my take on it

That means that they are not permanent, guaranteed components of DVC membership. They are perks that can change. Over the years, DVC has had many discounts and programs that have come and gone and the wording is there to protect DVD from the assumption by members that these are part of their ownership.

The "perks" are great opportunities and should be enjoyed while they are available, but we all need to realize that they can (and often do) change without warning from DVC.

There are many dining discounts that change periodically, exchanges to other WDW resorts where point needs change annually, Disney Cruise Line point requirements change annually, admission discounts may change, recreation discounts may change, etc.

The complete list of discounts and other perks is posted on the member's website and a listing will be given to members on each stay. Just enjoy the perks while they last amd don't get too hung up on changes- they will occur over time.

Enjoy!
