With new FP+ you schedule FPs before you go to a park and can have 3/day. If you park hop after can you get 3 new FPs at the 2nd park? If not why bother hopping?

You can only get 3 at one park per day. Many people are doing rope drop at one park and riding a bunch on standby there while the lines are short, then they use their FP+'s in the evening at a different park.

Right now, only onsite resort guests can link tickets/magic bands to My Disney Experience to book in advance (60 days). If you're staying offsite, you can book your FP+ reservations day-of, making them at kiosks inside the parks after you've entered the park.

If not why bother hopping?

That is the question. I think Disney will have to address this or logic would tell you that PH option purchases will drop.

This strategy only works if you stay on site. If you are off site and cannot book FP+ in advance, by the time you hop over to your second park, your FP options will be limited. The new system makes hopping a tough proposition for Swan/Dolphin/Bonnet Creek/Shades of Green folks not to mention people coming in from off property.

I look at park hopping as insurance for a low cost on a long trip. MK the best park today? Dang all rides are at 50 min waits... Pull up cell and see Hollywood has 20 min standby for RNC and jumpship for that park.

Also I am going to use FP+ likely at MK everyday if it stays untiered as by Sept I expect the TDMT to be on FP+ and I won't need to ever stand standby in Sept when lines will likely still be 1hr+ I would bet???

Yes that is correct.

We're going July 4th week and not getting hoppers. I'm using the rope drop/evening FP strategy, but only at one park each day. I figure we'll knock out all of our must do's pretty easily that way.

True but I think it also depends on the crowds. I've seen a number of reports from people getting a FP+ later in the day with no issues. I don't get why it's a big deal though. With legacy FP on a really busy day if you hopped in the afternoon many of the headliner FP's would be gone anyway.

True, which is why we stopped hopping. For example, walking in to DHS in the afternoon with waits at the headliners hovering around 75 minutes was a waste.

Why bother hopping? To see the fireworks, and to go on any ride that doesn't have a long line. To have a nice meal in the park. To shop.

During my December trip we had park hoppers and used FP+. I didn't find the park hoppers to be worthless, though I do hope Disney figures out a way to let your split your FP+ between 2 parks.

I think under FP+ you are far more likely to find FPs gone at the park you hope to than under FP-.

1) Barriers to accessing the system have been removed. You no longer need to be IN the park to book. You no longer need to be AT the attraction.

2) People book 3 at a time instead of having to wait and show up at a kiosk every 2 hours.

3) The system will not allow you to book less than 3. Even those who would have normally taken 1 or 2 must now take 3, whether they intend to use it or not.

Look at it this way;
Go to a park early ( I'm not implying RD, that's up to you), do what you want there. For example you could spend 5 or 6 hrs in MK, going to all the shows, riding the train, doing one or two popular rides stand-by and/ OR have an ADR.
Then head to your 2nd park late afternoon or early evening, where you've made FP+ for 3 attractions.

Why hop is right! My family and I always get the hopper option as we like the liberty of doing things spontaneously. Having to go to rope drop every day feels way too much like being back home and going to work .

My son graduates from high school this June and when asked what he'd like as a graduation gift - WDW was his answer. No problem here as I love it too and we've gone almost every year since he was 5 but this whole FP+ fiasco is throwing a wrench into my decision to go or not. I usually have my plans pretty laid out by Feb 1 but I am hesitant because of this. I'm sure this new system doesn't affect many people but the way we [my family] go about our WDW trip, this will put a damper on it - and we hate being limited to one park per day [w/out the hopper]. This forces us to wait in long lines at other parks, etc. Maybe time to consider different vacation destinations.....

I seem to remember seeing on another thread though that you can book FP+ reservations from a kiosk day-of for ANY park - it doesn't need to be the park you're in. So, you could do RD at one park, make your ressies for the other park while you're there and availability is still good. Then ride your headliners, enjoy the day and hop over to the 2nd park later. Can anyone confirm this?

We get park hoppers, but it's strictly to eat. We eat somewhere in Epcot every day, either for lunch or dinner, because they have the best and most varied selection of CS food.
