Confused about tickets on ebay?

People are selling 5 days left from their 10 day tickets or 2 days left from their 7 day tickets. I thought you're finger scanned and aren't able to use someone else's tickets. There are tons like that for sale. How does it work? Also, I'm a little afraid to buy something on ebay however it says you're guaranteed if you use paypal. Would you get your money back if a sale was a scam?

I would stay away from things like that. I don't know if it is allowed or not but if it IS a scam, it would be quite a process to prove and to try and get your money back.

Don't do it. If you don't want to pay the full price from WDW, there are some legit ticket brokers. Sign up for mousesavers, she has a link in her newsletter with a broker and you will at least get some savings. I used her for our tickets and I also bought a ticket for Richard Petty Driving school. I was quite pleased. You can call the company or e-mail the company if you have any questions.

There have been lots of threads on here about this and the concensus is always DON'T DO IT! First of all, all the WDW ticket media is non-tranferable and so Disney is under no obligation to let you use someone elses half-used tickets (although most concur it would be rare for them to know) Secondly, you have no way of knowing what is left on a multi-day park ticket until you are in line and it doesn't work. As far as Paypal is concerned, they pretty much leave you to your own devices to work things out and are not very helpful (after all, it's your word against the seller AND you are buying no-tranferable ticket media) Just get real tickets from a discount seller like ML tickets. Otherwise, you may end up spending twice as much!

yes, I agree. I've used EBay enough to know there are plenty of scam artists out there. I would search around the net, check for different travel agents and/or ticket brokers and go that route. We buy directly from Disney and are fine doing so because we know it's legit. Plus...if there's a problem, we're confident it will get taken care of.

To me...I'd rather pay a little more and have the assuarance there won't be any issues.

I figured something weird was going on because these auctions keep disappearing before they expire and it seems like someone is using different names for the same items. But I've rented timeshares from lots of people online before using the honor system without any problems, so I thought maybe these would be okay. But since no one has said anything positive about buying WDW tickets through Ebay, I'm getting a little worried. There are hundreds of listings and people are bidding on them like crazy though! I've bought and sold many items without a hassle but I guess it only takes one time to get burned!

odds are good, it is a scam... there is no where but on WDW property that you can check to see if the tickets are legit. The finger scanners are going away soon, but that will not change that there is no way to check if the tickets are legit. Offer them $5... that is the most i would invest in the situation.

It is not about being honest, WDW tickets are NON-TRANSFERABLE, meaning noone else can use those tickets after thay have been used by someone else. These people aren't being honest by trying to sell partially used tickets and they are the only people that can actually use the ticket in the first place.

NEVER EVER BUY PARTIALLY USED TICKETS FROM ANYONE ANYWHERE, you can always find a good deal from a reputable dealer.

What do you mean that the finger scanning will soon be gone?
I figured if it sounded too good to be true than it probably was. But these are guys with tons of sales and positive feedback, but when you email them a question, they email you back to make a sale without going through ebay, then suddenly the auction is removed. I guess ebay is getting too big for it to be policed properly any more. There are so many people bidding on this stuff so I bet a lot are getting burned.

There are certain things on your ticket that a greeter can look at and ask you questions about. There are also some things about the ticket which show up on the greeter side of the turnstile which you can be asked about.

If your ticket fails the identification scan or is otherwise not acceptable, and you cannot satisfy the greeter that it is properly yours, the ticket will be confiscated and revoked.

And usually if I have to confiscate a ticket I will also point out the party to someone from Security and they take over from there.

(And I will not state or answer questions about what these security measures are.)

I believe ML is mapleleaftickets.com, there is also undercovertourist.com that a lot of people on the dis have used.

Have I missed something???

While I totally agree with everyone else who said don't do it.....if by chance you decide to...then realize that your statement above about Paypal guarantee is not really a guarantee.....first off you only have 45 days from the date you pay with Paypal to file a claim, so unless you're buying them and going very soon afterward, you'd lose your claim on that basis. The other is that Paypal will help you for items that aren't delivered.....the seller will likely have proof that you received them. The other way you can win with a dispute through Paypal is if the item is "not substantially as described" or some such wording....however, the fine print in their dispute documents talks several times about items that are illegal to sell are not covered. So while your purchase may be "not as described" because they turn out to be useless....the fact that it's illegal could be a reason for Paypal to deny your dispute. And if you do some searches on google about Paypal you'll find that they do everything in their power to find a way to not side with the buyer for disputes.....because their sellers are the ones bringing in money and if Paypal pisses them off, well, they'll go away.

And...think about this.....you arrive at the gate and the tickets don't work and CMs turn you away....if you're "lucky" and the Security guys that Cheshire sent after you don't remove you from the property....you're now going to have to pay for a full price ticket to get in. And the worry about whether you'll get a refund through the seller or Paypal after your vacation will gnaw at you throughout your stay. Not worth the bad karma!

There are ways to get discounted tickets legit.....look at those avenues instead. Undercovertourist is a good deal (keep in mind their prices include tax and shipping which aren't included until check out at the WDW site) and they're very reliable. Or, if you don't mind the time, you could always do some of the timeshare seminars to get some free tickets. There are other ways too....just look around this board for some of the other good sellers.

I know its been beat to death, and the concensus is don't do it. Just a side note about paypal... you have a limited amount of time to file a claim, and burden of proof falls on the buyer. I bought my DS9 an HO scale model train of the WDW railroad last year advertised as complete and excellent condition. It arrived broken and with only 3 track pieces. Paypal required me to have it appraised before considering a claim, and made it so difficult that it was not worth the hassle. Point is... don't count on paypal to make things right if you get burned!

Even if they do work, it's illegal to use them. That's all that should matter.

I'm not asking anything about security......I'm just curious about one situation.

A finger scan...even a very very accurate finger scan couldn't possibly take into acct IDENTICAL TWINS.

Of course a ticket is not transferrable, however, in the case of identical twins, walking in together but switching tickets just for the heck of it, it couldn't possibly be proven that they aren't who they say they are.

Even if they do work, it's illegal to use them. That's all that should matter.

I would think it would be Unethical as opposed to illegal. While WDW could certainly enforce their "rules" regarding the uise of tickets, I'm not sure they could press charges for using a ticket one purchased from an outside source.

And for the record, I purchased my 10 day pass as part of my package. The only tickets I'd ever purchase on ebay are tickets for Red Sox games.

A couple of things:

1) The re-sale of non-transferable theme park tickets is illegal in Florida. Using them, while unethical and potentially a problem at the gates, is not illegal .. just unethical -- and again - Disney security may wish to have a word with you.

2) The finger scanners have been rumored to go away. Personally, I'll believe it when I see it.. but you never know. No "official" word from Disney on this.

3) Identical twins do not have identical fingerprints. And even if they did.. it's such a small market that it doesn't matter anyway. :)

Lastly about E-BAY tickets, your avenues of recourse if you have a problem are very small and the old adage applies ...

"If it seems to good to be true... it probably is."

Just because you can't think of the 'gotcha' moment right now, doesn't mean there still won't be one.

ETA: I thought the fingerscan was based on a measurement rather than your actual fingerprint which is why I made previous statement. You learn something new every day

I wasn't inferring at all that there is a market for it. Just curious. Too bad my entire family couldn't go together to WDW to 'test" the system. My mother had 3 sets of identical twins. Would be "a gotcha" moment for me if we all swapped tickets with our twin just to see if it would work. Of course we would also have to swap id's and such which would be far more of a hassle for a few seconds of satisfaction

it does boggle my mind the things sold and purchased on Ebay. It seems as if, for the most part, people who've not read the fine print think they are protected far more than they actually are with these transactions!
