Confused about the new AP MagicBands....

So, I saw on AllEars today that AP holders can now order MagicBands, presumably without needing to have a reservation attached to their profile.

Two questions:

1.) Does this mean that AP holders can reserve FP+ (still only 3 per day, I assume) any time between now and 60 days out? Or must they get the FP's when they arrive at the park like day guests who don't buy tickets in advance?

2.) Suppose you are an AP holder who doesn't live locally and never stays off-property. Since you will already be getting MB's every time you visit by virtue of being a resort guest, is there any point in getting the AP MB's? I'm trying to see an advantage, and I can't come up with one.

True. If you had an AP and didn't make reservations why wouldn't you just be able to use FP+ whenever you think you're going.

I'm from NY and planning to go on two separate trips for at least 4 park days each. It makes sense financially to have the AP. But how do they know I'm coming.

You are allowed to make up to 7 days' worth of FP+ reservations IN A ROW up to 60 days out. As soon as the first days' are used, the eighth day would become valid, if you were staying offsite, and so on.

While the second question the OP has is valid, and I would guess that they might come up with some way to make sure you only use your AP band in the future, I suppose they have to focus more on those of us who almost never stay on-site (or even in a hotel at all) because we live so close. We've been waiting for FP+ in advance for a while now. :P

Re: which AP holders should Disney be focusing on - I wonder what the split is between AP holders who live locally and those who live remotely (and thus would need to stay in a hotel of some kind, even if not on-site).

Your point is well-taken that if locals are the majority, these new developments are a much bigger deal for them.

I was able to order AP MBs today. But I wasn't able to make any more reservations for FP+ than the ones I already made with our on site hotel stay.

If you always stay onsite, there is not additional advantage. It is their second step in initiating FP+. Resort guests were first, APs are second.

You do get an additional MB to coordinate with your outfits, so you can consider that a bonus.

I'm not sure this is correct. Where did you see they had to be consecutive?

I've been able to customize my AP magic bands and have them ordered but I've not been allowed to make FP+ reservations? Is it a given that AP holders will all have the ability to make advanced reservations? When will this happen?

I have 3 sets of bands customized and waiting to ship (2 trips, one split stay). Am instill going to get AP bands on top of that?

I have APs for my wife and me, and had an order waiting a few days ago for bands. I customized and released the order and it says it will ship in March. I can now make FP+ reservations for our trip in April.. so within 60 days it seems.

But, I ordered a new AP for my daughter, got the reservation# and used it to link the pass to her. It said it did it, but I can't see it (I manage her ID in my account, she does not have her own account.) So I am waiting for it to show up and to be able to order a band for her... will be unhappy if I cannot before we get there and cannot reserve in advance.

There is no advantage. If you don't want them, simply don't order them. Disney apparently doesn't want to spend time on the logic of who has already gotten them and who hasn't, it's just much easier to offer them.

I already have two from previous stays and I just ordered another one because I am an AP holder. Again, no advantage, I just like having different colors.

Now I'm more confused :) This morning I checked and for the first time I'm able to make FP+ selections. But only up to April 11th. I thought it was 60 days out not 30?

I just checked and I can only select through April 11th too. Interesting.

Ordered mine yesterday and able to book through May 11th. 60 days.

I was in the app this morning and saw an option to personalize bands for AP, so went in there. My family's passes are all linked in my MDE, and we all already have 2 bands from a Feb and a March hotel stay onsite, so we don't really have a need for the 3rd bands. However, if at some point they opt to tie the others specifically to the hotel trips, and require us to use the new ones (I don't really think this will happen), I figured I should go ahead and customize our AP bands. Oddly, however, it is only offering me the option to customize an AP band for my husband, not for my daughter's or my own AP. So now husband has his 3rd band scheduled to ship, but the rest of us just have the 2 bands we already have? Will they likely send the option to personalize the rest at another time? His pass payment is earlier in the month (Florida residents on payment plan, his renewal was beginning of Feb this year, ours renewed in late October last year), don't know if or why that would impact it.

Same here. Our next trip doesn't begin until May 5th so I'm going to have to keep an eyeball on the FP+ window. I wish they'd release more information on the AP changes as yesterday I wasn't able to access FP+ at all, it was only through looking at this thread that I gave it a go.

Just booked fp for Soarin, Mission Space and Spaceship Earth for this Saturday, got the times we wanted so we can do F&G and then do the rides on our way out in the afternoon, there were plenty of times available, even for Soarin...

I posted this questions in another thread, and I think the conclusion was that the jury was still out... but maybe someone here might know.

We have APs AND an onsite reservation for 11 days. Does that mean that 60 days out we'll be able to make FP+ reservations for:
a) only 7 days until we start using them OR
b) all 11 days because of the onsite stay?

I would assume that b) makes more sense -- would be odd to "penalize" us for having both, but can't find anything stated by Disney to clarify... :confused3

So I called and the CM that I talked to said that for AP holders without a resort stay they will be able to book 30 days out with a maximum of 7 days in a row. AP holders with a resort stay can still book 60 days out.

I have been able to book FP+s for May...AP holder, but no trip scheduled until June 1.
But, I have a question...if you have multiple MBs..already have a generic grey one and a red one, and have two more trips planned, so MBs for those in addition to my AP MB. Are they are usable? On the same trip? I have a friend who is in pretty much the same situation and she was planning on bringing all her MBs and color coordinating with her outfits each day!! Will that work? Seems a bit excessive to me.
