Confused about Cribs

Sorry if this has been asked and answered many times before, but I'm a little confused about the issue re. renting cribs vs. using what WDW provides.

We'll be staying at POR for 2 nights and AKL for 2 nights in mid-May, and I had arranged for a crib for the room and just assumed it would be a quality, full-size crib and not a travel playpen. Am I wrong in assuming that? What exactly does WDW currently provide as a crib. Our son will be almost 11 months old then, and he's a great sleeper, but a travel play pen isn't nearly as comforbable, imho, especially for 4 nights.

Do most people opt to rent cribs, and how would one do that if staying at 2 different resorts during a 5-day stay?

We stayed at AKL with our DGS (6 months) in February '05. It was a pack and play. He did OK and slept fine.

Have fun on your trip!

Some of the resorts have fullsize cribs but you have to specifically request one and they are not guaranteed. We've had one at the Contemp and seen them at the BCV. If it's really important to you, you should probably rent one to be sure.

BTW, my kids have never had a problem with sleeping in the pack and play. DS is very tall for his age and he slept in it on our Disney vacations until he was almost 3. But it really depends on your own child. :)

DD is 9 months, but she sleeps with us. princess:

In the event that you can't secure a crib, why don't you try getting ds used to the Pack and Play?

Good luck.

Hello:) I will be at Pop Century for a week with my son who will be 22 months old - and he would never sleep in a pack-n-play or the rental crib for a week - so I requested bed rails at the resort. I will put them on the other double bed so he can have his own bed and be more comfortable... I am hoping this will allow us all to get more rest. Good luck!

Here's a piece from a post of mine from another thread a few days ago...

We used a PnP on our last trip for DS's first birthday and he did pretty well but rolled over a few times and woke himself up maybe once per night, tolerable while on vacation I guess...but, last month we took a trip to grandma & grandpa's, a business trip for me and DS came along - the first night in the PnP at my parents' house DS rolled over and woke himself up maybe 5 times...since I was needing to work and the trip was a week long we ended up buying a crib, well worth the $$$! So needless to say we're renting on our next trip to WDW in May.

Oh, I should add that we called housekeeping at Boardwalk for a full size crib during our last visit and they brought one up - it was horrible: super, super soft mattress with really loose springs supporting it, not to mention it was very institutional and cold stainless steel. We sent it back down and used the PnP.

I think it comes down to the age/size of the child and whether or not they are an active sleeper. At 8.5 months my DS did great in a PnP for a week, at 10.5 months he also did well, 12 months and 14.5 months are mentioned above. My DS is a very active sleeper, though, so if your child isn't as active then perhaps a PnP will work just great.
