Confirmed MSEP to stop and move to DL Oct. 9th

I'll probably get struck by lightening for saying it but I'm not even a little disappointed. I can't remember the last time I actually watched the parade. I normally stake out my spot for the FW during it since everyone is bunched around the route and it works great for me to get to my spot. I can't remember the last time I watched a day time parade either for that matter unless I was on my way to the other side of the park while it was going by. Even when my son was young he didn't enjoy the parades, too crowded and the thought of having to sit and wait for a hour just to get a spot to see it wasn't for him. I guess I'm easily entertained, pretty colors in the sky and just being in the parks with all the lights on are enough for me.

To be perfectly honest here, (and preparing to duck... :)) I guess I wouldn't mind if there was no nighttime parade. I would like there to be something to entertain everyone, but for us, since we don't have small children, it's always been a challenge to be on the correct side of the parade route to do the things we planned. And after having seen it so many times, we have tried to avoid the major crowd areas and enjoy shorter lines on the attractions. Just a different perspective. If a new parade came, I'd probably want to see it though.

We were posting the same thing at the same time. I notice you've been going since 86, we've been going since around 83 so maybe it's because if you go often enough you get to a point where you don't have to do the same stuff everyone else does.

This just popped up over on WDWMagic from poster AsianWay:

I just got a message that explains why the whole movement is happening. And its cringe inducing. Not sure if I believe it.

Whatever it is, sounds bad.

The plot thickens, brb...have to grab my popcorn.

This smells of something new, and less of budgetary reasons. Also seems that the decision to move MSEP was done hastily.

Keep in mind, MK hasn't gone without a nighttime parade (other than for weather related cancellations) since September 1991.

Last I heard is Disneyland is the one that wanted MSEP.

well, if it was decided for them that PTN would be ending (at least for every night) I can see DLR wanting MSEP to get it back and have something. Especially if they can fix it up a bit but still keep the nostalgia element, that could work at DLR

So far most of the closings etc haven't pissed me off as much as others. If there is no nighttime entertainment other than fireworks at MK for out late January/early February 2017 trip, it will mark our last on site stay at WDW for some time.

We went back and forth this year on staying on site or off site with days at Universal or Legoland. We opted for another stay at the Poly, in part, because our kids love going back to MK at night for the parade. Maybe we would have stayed over by Epcot or off site had we known.

These less than six months out major changes will make me spend my major vacation dollars elsewhere.
As of now there isn't even fireworks scheduled for any dates on January

We have never actually watched a parade at any of the parks. They just don't hold enough appeal to us to stake out a spot an hour ahead of time and fight the crowds of unruly people. The parades are actually a nuisance to us when trying to navigate the park while they're on. The one at AK especially.

Funny thing is we actually booked one of the Tony's parade deals for December and figured with the reserved spot we would actually watch one for the first time and now they have cancelled it!! LOL!!

Did they send you an email to cancel the dining package?

They are slow
To update their calendars. Fireworks will be updated.
That's what everyone keeps saying, it's just very very strange to me that they are not up for Jan but they are up for Feb??? And then all of this about the nighttime parades and uncertaintity, I just feel like there is something else going on there. We are less than 170 days out for end of January now, it should be on the calandar at this point

There is nothing going on with fireworks right now that I'm aware of. 170 days is still a long time. I wouldn't worry.

So riddle me this...

And I think I asked this on another thread, but I can't find it now so who knows.

Why does MK NEED a night parade?

What I am saying is that they have times and dates for both Wishes and Parade in Feb 2017, and says none for every single night in January, why would Jan have nothing and the back on in Feb??

They are probably updating their schedules. When they first put out their time calendars they just put the generic times on the calendars but as time goes on they'll change things based crowd levels and the time of year.

Why does MK NEED a night parade?

Why do they need fireworks? Why character meets? Why quality attractions?

It's a magical, fun, very special activity that helps create the special indefinable thing that makes Disney Disney. It's been a tradition there for a long time for good reason.

Why does MK need any parade really? They don't but it's part of the Disney Magic that's been around for decades.

Being a mod of this thread has not taught you that Disney doesn't care if it's "been around for decades?"

Same question posed to you. Since when does Disney care about tradition?

I asked specifically about a NIGHT parade. With evening fireworks, why have a night parade that runs before and after when you have an afternoon parade?
