CONFIRMED covid-19 family knew they tested positive and chose to visit WDW and fly on a plane

A good amount of people with Covid symptoms don’t run a high fever. The temp check is safety theater (Iger said this back before the parks reopened) and hey it employees people so yay. Anyone who thinks they have a temp but still intends to go somewhere with a temp check will just pop some Tylenol or other fever busting med.

As for this particular case reports are he suffered from high blood pressure and respiratory issues. He died of a heart attack probably triggered by COVID. Twitter “first hand reports” say passengers saw he was having “difficulty breathing” and/or “serious” symptoms when they boarded the plane- and yet none of those same passengers thought it was serious enough to not get onto a cross country flight with the man which is why I don’t blame UA for not deplaning him due to symptoms.

Random observation- “family” makes a much more sensational story than man and his wife.

As for action against the family all I expect is a ban from UA similar to the couple who flew back to HI from SFO knowingly COVID positive.

You know what baffles me about this, and not even because of Covid, but... man, if I see someone having difficulty breathing or having serious symptoms boarding a plane - I'm going to alert someone right away. Not because they could be contagious, not because it might affect me, but because I would be concerned for that man and would want to make sure he's okay!

Dont forget one method covid spreads, CASH unless it comes fresh from the ATM will spread Covid quite readly. Contactless payment like Apple Pay is best right now. And i wipe down CC’s after use with alcohol.

My thought on the recent uncontrolled spread is CASH + HOLIDAY SHOPPING as people dont realize money can spread covid and CC’s can spread it as well.

so i dont think its people being irresponsible its a covid vector which people are not considering in their safety planning.

I also let my amazon and other deliveries sit outside for at least 3 days before opening/bringing into house or office

The part I don't understand is if this family really was at WDW, why didn't the sick person get stopped at the temp checks. If there was someone who was so sick that they died on the way home, wouldn't he/she have been running a pretty serious fever for days before that? Or is it not confirmed that they actually WERE at WDW....??:scratchin

Maybe he never had a high temp.
I know someone personalty that was in hospital with covid, and breathing problems.
he was in for almost 2 weeks. What he told me, he Did not have a temperature, but could not breath,
I had covid, My symptoms, Diarrhea and major body aches. legs and thighs hurt so bad I did not even want to get up to move around. Never once had a fever or temperature out of normal range.

Are people really using that much cash right now? I'm shocked when I see anyone pull it out these days.

Transmission in this form is very rare. The vast majority of cases are spread via droplets in the air. The surge in cases has been predicted for months now, was completely expected and is due to a variety of factors including schools are back open, more businesses are open, people gathered for the holidays over Thanksgiving, the virus survives better in the cooler air, more people are indoors etc etc

how much do you need to use in to spread a single contaminated bill is all thats necessary.

And dont forget a lot of people use cash for holiday shopping to encourage responsible spending

But, if they were THAT sick, that they were that close to death... I would think they would have LOOKED sick, which should have been a clue to someone that they might have been lying.

I thought about that also, I have flown and barley talked to any airport personal and went thru all checks with little contact. Maybe passengers seen this but went unnoticed by airport staff. Unless a passenger spoke up, they could slip by and board.

I just think that surface transmission is 1) not turning out to be as common as initially thought and 2) easy to prevent by not touching your face and using hand sanitizer after touching anything in public.

Since its never been studied the percentage is unknown. But as the virus is known to survive on moisture retaining porous surfaces (paper + money). And use of cash goes up 20x during holidays.

The other factors that you mention are at least as significant

remember im not saying its THE factor its A factor

How can you claim that cash is one way the virus spreads 5 posts above and then admit it’s never been studied and it’s unknown if it actually spreads through cash. Is it possible? Sure. But I don’t think we can assume it’s true

Lots of people look sick who have terminal illnesses that arent communicable. The airline employees are bot health experts. At the end of the day it seems the family lied and they should be held accountable for it.

My girlfriend is a good example she can comunicate unless having a coughing attack..
No terminal illness but has bronchitis.
Some times when we fly, people give her dirty looks.
Flying and altitude trigger it. She will start to cough, cant help it.
Have encountered some very rude and ignorant people. Even before covid
I understand others concern, but a simple Are you OK, which some people have asked, gets them a polite yes thanks for asking, not sick its just bronchitis.
Many people with issues that are of no threat to others,

Only you thing is I have heard of ppl having cardiac issues who have mild or no symptoms so maybe not.

I think at the end of the day, this comes down to personal responsibility.

What is at the heart of this whole thing is that this family KNEW they were positive.... before the trip.... and then decided to go anyway. It was a conscious decision on their part, and put others at risk.

You’re right that he wasn’t the first or last, but man it snapped me back into reality. You can easily be lulled into a false sense of security about travel by reading these boards and/or Facebook.
Perhaps illogically it makes me actually feel safer since I have travelled & been to wdw 3 times since they reopened. My logic is I have likely come in contact with tons of ppl like this man & haven’t gotten sick. So masks & social distancing are working. We are also extremely careful we go anywhere in public.

Not only that, but are they asking themselves if they had canceled, if their family member would still be alive? The poor people who were trying to save this man's life, now are definitely exposed. How horrid to all involved.
Their selfish decision will haunt them forever. :sad2:
Maybe, just maybe, people will be more aware now and be more sensible.
I've been twice to Disney since reopen. But, we went into the planning with back up planning if A or B happened.
I love me some Mickey, but he will still be there, no need to force the issue... 🤷‍♀️

Actually viruses survive less on porous surfaces (hair, paper, fabrics) and longer on nonporous surfaces like metal or hard plastics. Also detecting viral material on a surface is not the same as detecting viable virus that is infectious...
