Confirmed: “Paint the Night” Scheduled to close Sept 5th

It would be nice if they would announce their plans of changes, etc, early enough for people to make decisions and plans. Hotels and flights are much more expensive to book last minute. They know how far out their own hotels book up, you'd think they'd understand the need to know these things prior to booking rooms... sigh....

I'm so annoyed with the whole thing. I have no information about what to expect at DLR (except I know now a few things NOT to expect) but if I want to change to WDW all the dining reservations have been booked solid for weeks.

Since DLR is cheaping out on entertainment, I'm also a little concerned they might cheap out on park hours.

I'm going to start watching for some dining reservations at DLR just in case I decide to pull the plug on DLR and head east instead.

That would be terrible. They had MSEP at WDW on my last trip in 2012. While I'm sure this was a cool show back in the 80s, it's just not that impressive any more. When it replaced Spectromagic, tons of people were upset, including me. PtN actually draws a little from MSEP, so why would we want the original back? Hoping this doesn't happen. But it would be a parade that would suck up lots of people and allow us to do more rides.

Personally, I agree, but if they ship FOF out to California, then what becomes MK's daytime parade? They aren't going to leave MK without a daytime parade, and with Soundsational already on the schedule in CA, I don't really see what else they would do.

I'm already preparing myself for the pre-60th park hours. When I was researching last year's trip, I saw the 2014 hours were 10am-8pm during the week during the first week of the holidays. We were happily surprised when those hours were extended for the 60th. I highly doubt the extended hours will continue, unfortunately.

Agree. I would expect the more traditional shorter hours during the "less busy" seasons.

I still really hope the parade comes back next summer. I'm kind of sad we didn't go to Disneyland this summer, but it was a decision we made and not one we can change now. School starts Tuesday. I know I will be happy when we get our APs next year and our son is past the 40" mark and our youngest past the 32" mark and walking. But right now I'm sad because we didn't get to see the new fireworks with all of the projections or the parade, and Tower of Terror will be closing it's doors too. But I can't justify buying 2-day tickets for a short weekend trip when we're planning to buy APs for next year. The financial sense of the APs for my husband would be kind of lost if I suggested spending more than a 1/3 of the AP cost right now just to go for 2 days.

That would be great.....if they actually were replacing it with the "next new thing".

Well Disney is always adding or working on adding new things.
I dont mean that I am looking fwd to what will specifically replace this parade on its time slot but, at least for me, that is one of the appeals that keeps me coming back... different things to see/do

I'm still holding out hope that PtN will return to DLR at some point in the future. As one Twitter user pointed out, the Parks Blog response did say that PtN "will conclude its initial run with the September 5 close of the Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration. Any future plans have not yet been determined" (emphasis added). This could be taken to imply that a future run may be possible at DLR!

Out of curiosity, if they do bring PtN back, would folks rather it come back as soon as possible or wait until next summer? I'm just curious if folks would feel "misled" if DLR makes an announcement that PtN is concluding on September 5th and then they bring it back for the holidays. Or would folks not feel upset because WoC: Celebrate and DL Forever are also ending, so last minute trips would still be worth it because of those shows?

Honestly, it's just going to tick me off if it comes back right away and we just miss it. We have to make our plans many months in advance, working around school. We can't just pop in when it happens to show up. We travel half way across the country to get there in the first place, and it really seems like they make these decisions without considering what it does to guests like us.

ITA. Sometimes I think they get too lost in thinking about DLR as a locals park, and they completely forget about those who do travel from far distances.

Not to mention those of us that travel half way around the world. It was Disneyland Forever that inspired us to book a trip to Disneyland last year. Had we known the 60th shows would end after a year (I incorrectly assumed the entertainment would continue for some years), our plans may have been different. For international airfares, we have to book many months in advance.

I am circumspect about it but I really do wish Disney would provide definitive answers ahead of time rather than vague BS when you enquire. It's like everything they do and think is treated like a state secret. Heaven forbid someone gets information and is treated like a Snowden.

I would also be concerned. With little to no nighttime entertainment I suspect park hours may reflect that.

I really don't understand why they are doing this. If they are shipping it to WDW, why??? PTN is my favorite parade. It is like MSEP on steroids. The first time I saw it I couldn't believe how amazing it is. And I love the music!
In July we managed to get a good spot for the first show without waiting long. We went to the place where Tomorrowland empties out by IASW. Right in the path. We were in the second/third row of people there behind a little girl in a stroller and others sitting down. And the best part, is we were near where the parade starts. We got that spot about 15 min before the show. We then moved up to IASW for the fireworks.

Our APs expired after our July trip and we think we probably won't get them again next summer like we usually would. We think we might give it a year or two. I'll probably go in to withdrawals, but we are thinking of going somewhere different next summer.

Current rumor I just read is that it's coming back at the beginning of November. Supposedly this originates from a performer in the parade.

So sounds like they will be keeping it for the busiest times of the year, possibly Christmas and Summer. Bummer for those of us who like to avoid those times. But I sure hope it doesn't go away for good!

It does seem a bit misleading for them to announce a parade ending only to make an announcement a a few weeks later that it would only be gone for a couple months. Those announcements should be made at the same time.

Regardless of WoC Celebrate and DL Forever, I think they should bring PtN back for the holidays.

Agreed
That just seems odd.

But that is what they teach in business school. Don't advertise the new product until you've sold out of the old. They want people squeezing in that last trip (or two or three) between now and Labor Day to see the parade. I can say if we were still living in L.A. and still had AP's, we would probably get two or three separate days in. Instead , we have to settle for a trip to WDW (we would much rather be at DL).

If PTN is returning in November, then that means it'll probably be rolled into the "Holidays at the Disneyland Resort" season (dates not announced yet), which means we may not see an official announcement until after Halloween Time ends.
