Confession Time

At least you recognize it. When my DD was 12, we stayed at CSR---she walked in and took one look and turned to me and asked "oh mommy, is this where the poor people stay when they come to Disney." DD is the definition of resort snob.

That's hilarious!

Love deluxe - my fav is AKL. When with family or other group, we stay there. The resort is part of our vacation. Every couple of years, I come by myself for the Flower and Garden Festival. During those visits, I have stayed at moderate - am a fan of Coronado Springs.

I hear ya. I'm a DVC snob now. Once I experienced a full kitchen and W/D in the unit, there was no going back!

We normally stay at POR and I love it. We normally stay 7 - 8 days and can't afford the Deluxe resorts for that many days. HOWEVER, we are upgrading to an annual pass when we arrive. AND for our trip in July 2016, we're only staying for 5 nights. So, since we will not need to purchase tickets, we are strongly considering staying at AKL for that trip and starting a Disney payment account to save for it. I'm such a creature of comfort, I can see myself becoming a Deluxe snob! :) Besides, all those years of having to stay on the freaking campground when you love the idea of not having to put on your shoes and grab a flashlight just to go to the bathroom, you never want to go back to that! LOL!

Another Deluxe snob here too! Last year for F&W we had a 2 bed room villa at AKL KV, then we did WL CL, and now we just returned from a 2 bed room villa at BLT. The next trip we have a Grand Villa booked at AKL Jambo. With the amenities we get from the Deluxe villa resorts it will be difficult to go back to anything else.

Personally, I don't have any problems with POR or CSR but others in my party do. One in particular won't even take the Magical Express from MCO to Disney because he doesn't want to stop at any of the value resorts. :sad2:

You can call me a snob, a snoot or whatever, but I love deluxe and really don't ever see myself staying in a value (not my style) and doubt I would stay moderate. I also like the deluxe resorts that I have bought into the DVC and looking forward to my first stay next month as a DVC member and staying at my home resort, VGF. I will admit, I have walked around POR, POFQ and CSR and they look very nice, but I much prefer the restaurants, transportation and locations that the deluxe resorts offer. But then that is what is so nice about Disney, they have something for everyone. :goodvibes

I wouldn't call it snobbery. I don't care for the value resorts, but I'll stay if I have a need for a cheap room before I move on to a different resort. I will never return to POP. I know there is much love for the place, but it was just awful. Same goes for ASMo. I didn't mind POFQ because it was small. I don't think I'll return to CBR. It was just too big for me even with a preferred room. I had the same issue with CSR. Both were beautiful, but just too much for me LOL!

Truth is I've been ruined by staying club level at WL this past January. We are staying club level at Beach Club in June. We are not park commandos. We enjoy hanging out at the resort.

I'm so with you. We're at POR this trip and while it is lovely and nice and all, DH and I both said never again. I'm tired of walking circles around my building just to find the staircase, then walking circles to get back to the right sidewalk. I'm tired of buses, I'm tired of not having a lobby that I don't have to walk 15 minutes to get to, I'm tired of not having a *quiet* lobby. I appreciate the piano guy at POR, but he is SO. LOUD. and singing the same songs I heard him sing two years ago, and sometimes I just want to enjoy a quiet drink after a crazy day at the parks. I also love AKV and AKL, but dh says we stay on the monorail or we don't come anymore.

That's sort of where we are now. We either stay on the monorail (the Contemporary is our fave) or we stay offsite.

I will join the deluxe snob club too. I ALWAYS book a moderate thinking "oh I will save money this year"...and then I start thinking and always end up changing to a deluxe. Like some previous posters, the resort is a big part of my vacation. I love everything being close together (for the most part) and love having indoor hallways. We stayed one night at POR on our last trip, and while it was a beautiful resort, it wasn't the same as a deluxe!! I love the EPCOT resort area too. This year we are staying in a 1BR Villa at BWV and I am hoping we don't become 1BR Villa snobs ;)

In the 80's, I stayed at Poly with my family a few times. Then we stayed at BC shortly after it opened. The first time I went with friends, All Stars did not yet exist so we stayed off site. When the All Stars popped up, I was THRILLED to be able to stay there. I didn't miss Poly or BC - I was so happy to stay at All Star Sports and I couldn't believe that I was able to afford a Disney resort as a recent college grad. With kids, we started staying mod and deluxe.

Now, we jump around. We'll stay value for a quick last-minute trip, for an arrival night or when adding a couple extra nights to the trip without increasing the cost much. Last summer, we had a few days available before our trip to Europe. We have APs and flights were relatively inexpensive, so I took the kids for four days and we stayed at All Star Music for $67/night. Woo hoo! It was a ton of fun. We'll stay mod for a few nights during holiday season when discounts aren't available and deluxe doesn't feel like a good value to us. And when discounts are available, we'll stay deluxe and usually CL. This year, we've stayed at GF RPC, BC CL, WL CL, Poly CL and AKL CL. Deluxe CL is our favorite, but we continue to enjoy all of the options. Our kids appreciate and enjoy all the options, too. They know that for us, resort choice isn't a question of what we can afford, but what we feel is a good value and what makes financial and practical sense under the circumstances of each trip.

We'd like to try a Deluxe Resort but we honestly just can't justify that much difference in price for a hotel room. POR is lovely and quiet. We love it there and we're trying ASMusic in Nov for our first Value trip. I have to admit that I'm a little jealous of you Deluxe snobs but I don't think I'll be joining you any time soon. :flower1:

When you start at the top, you don't want to go back, and there's nowhere else to go. You plateau.

When you start at the bottom, you can keep looking forward and moving up.

We are in the Moderate stage now, and we are quite happy. Still room for improvement.

Always climbing the ladder. :thumbsup2

I really don't agree with this theory. I've stayed at deluxe resorts, and yet I don't feel any need to stay at them for every trip. I like POR much more than I liked the Beach Club. Heck, I like the Sports more than I liked the Beach Club. It has a much nicer food court area, and better bus service. But those things are what are more important to me. Maybe for someone else it is a larger bed and proximity to a park. But I don't think it is as simple as once you go deluxe you are spoiled for anything else. It is more of what makes you feel spoiled. And for me that was not a bus that shared with multiple other resorts and a food court that was bare bones.

Gotta go with what makes you happy.[/QUOTE]

I agree with you. WE really disliked BC when we compared it to POFQ, which is one of our favorite resorts. Not favorite Mod, we mean favorite resort.

We've never stayed at a deluxe, and like a pp said, we are slowly moving up the resort ladder. Our first stay was offsite, then value, then mod on our last trip. That being said, DH has fallen head-over-heels for the Poly. (He promises it has nothing to do with Dole Whips or Ohana *wink*) We really hope we can save enough to stay there for DD's grad trip in 2017. Other resorts are on the short list, but DH could quickly be a deluxe snob if the Poly is as good as he hopes.

I am proud that my kids opted to go to a value or moderate from the deluxe so they could bring their cousin!!!

Confession- I am super bummed about it....lol

I equate this to being on a cruise ship, and getting your first balcony cabin. Who's with me here? Who wants to go back to an interior cabin after that experience? Same with Deluxe vs Moderate. I mean, I love CBR, but GF? Puhlease...

We have stayed at moderates and deluxes. Do I like the deluxes better? Yes, I did. I just can't justify the money the deluxes charge. We are a financially comfortable family and we can afford the prices at the deluxes but I just feel like they are too high. We are staying at CBR at the end of August and paying $170/night. The deluxes are almost $500/night. I just can't justify spending that kind of money. I would stay at a deluxe with a very discounted rate tho.
