Just curious. How many of you save your extra condiment packets from fast food places?

I rarely eat fast food. If I take it to go and have too much ketchup I'll keep it for an emergency (I generally have at least one extra ketchup in the house because being out of ketchup would truly be an emergency for me:). The only place I might take one extra condiment and keep it is Chick Fil A. I love their barbecue sauce.

My wife drives me nuts with them. She saves the extras in a jar and then pulls them out once in a while.
I ask how old are they and she can't answer.

I only eat fast food once or twice a year, on long road trips.
We only take what we need, as best we can, but because we are in the car for LONG days and not heading home, we do not save them.

If I get extras in the bag without my taking them, of course I save them (the only one that comes to mind is soy sauce when we get take-out Chinese.... maybe once or twice a year). But I don't TAKE extras with the idea of saving them. And we so RARELY eat anything considered "fast food" that I don't really have to worry about this. I do save napkins any time we are given extras (mostly Subway.... and when they give me a napkin to go with m y coffee at Dunkins or McDonalds) ............P

I don't use either of them, but when I'm offered taco bell sauce or Wendy's hot oil (for their chili) I always take it b/c my family likes to have it on hand for their orders when we get home to eat the stuff. other than that I don't really keep the stuff-and I wish Wendy's would ask before they put the little packets of crackers in our chili orders-we are not cracker eaters so they get tossed out which I see as wasteful (and despite repeatedly telling them not to give us any we still end up w/at least 2 packets per container of chili tossed into the bag).

Another vote for we don't usually take more than we can use but if they give us more than we can use (like hot sauce at taco bell, etc) I throw those in our camper. Seems like someone is always looking for something like that when we are out - but then of course at the end of the season if it hasn't been used it would be pitched.

I use to, but now I toss them because they would sit around and nobody would use them. I always save the plastic silverware packets and the wrapped straws when they give us too many of those because they are handy for pitchins and picnics.

I never take them, but at the drive thru they often just put them in. We end up with a stockpile we have to throw out every few years. My DD uses up all the Fire Sauces from Taco bell, so never any of them left.

this thread reminds me of the Christmas gift I gave dh a few years ago-200 single serving packs of smucker's marmalade. he likes the stuff-no one else does so jars would go bad before they got used up. I found out smuckers sells the fast food/restaurant packets by the case for less than $30. if my mom was still alive I would have gotten her a mixed case (she was always stuffing them along with sweet and low packets in her purse when we ate out).

Don't most places anymore charge for the extra packets? I remember way back some places were charging extra.

We rarely have any sauce packets/containers. Definitely don't have ketchup packets on hand ever. I hate when take out places (Red Robin used to be soooo guilty of this) throw a handful of ketchup packets in the bag without even asking if we want ketchup. I buy unsweetened ketchup in a glass bottle, so I don't want the HFCS varieties that come in packets. I throw them out if we get any...wasteful, maybe, but I don't want them.

I save the extras that we get in the drive thru but do not request extra, except for ranch dressing (if the kids order chicken nuggets from Chic-Fila). I put those in their lunch boxes for dip when they have carrots or other veggies.

I wasn't suggesting anyone take extra. I meant when they put it in your carry out meals. We have a little place down the road that gives handfuls of ketchup and hot sauce. I keep it and we use it. Just wondering if anyone else did.

The only stuff I keep extras from is from Chinese take out - sweet & sour sauce, etc - because I don't already have it in my fridge.

Sorry for the tangent-can I ask what brand? Is it truly unsweetened or does it have sucralose (Splenda) in it?

I usually don't take them, but if they happen to toss some ketchup into the bag I do my best to bring them in the house to use when I bring lunch to work or school. I ordered a deli platter from a local grocery store for a party I hosted earlier this summer, and they gave me a ton of mayo and mustard packets. I kept them, mostly because I didn't want to be wasteful.

It is Westbrae Natural Organic Unsweetened Ketchup. It really is unsweetened, I avoid all artificial sweeteners and Stevia like the plague! It's delicious...tastes just like (good quality) ketchup! I buy it from Vitacost.com but not sure if you can find it locally at a health food store. You could probably easily make it yourself as well, but I like buying it because their seasonings are spot on!
