Anyone with a MK view at the CR ever received a free upgrade to Concierge Bay Lake View? Just wondering if they could do this and claim that you couldn't argue it because it was a free upgrade? I guess I'm just paranoid, but the deciding factor for us staying at the contemporary was the MK view room and if I don't get something I've paid for (even if concierge does cost more), I'm going to be really upset! :scared:

I would say that is an upgrade because of the continental breakfast you get in the morning, afternoon snacks, the 5:00 PM hors d'oueves in the evening, 8:00 PM desserts and all the alcohol you can get. Besides the chances of actually getting an upgrade to the 12th floor are very slim, because upgrades do not happen that often.

I know they don't happen very often, I'm just afraid that it would be my luck because I'm one of the very few who wouldn't want an upgrade to concierge level if it meant giving up my MK view room. :sad1:

Well if you were upgraded to the 12th floor it could still be with the Magic Kingdom view and if it were not, I guess you can say no thanks and keep your Magic Kingdom view room. I am not sure if you know this or not the lounge on the 12th floor does face the Magic Kingdom, so you could go there whenever you wanted to look at it. I realize it's not the same as having the view in your room, but you know what I mean. In the end I would not worry about being upgraded because chances are it won't happen.

They cannot "force" an upgrade on you. If you booked and paid for a specific view, they are under an obligation to provide the view you paid for.

I am not sure about that. An upgrade from the Magic Kingdom view to the Atrium Club Level is significant based on what they offer up there, even if the guest got a room on the Bay Lake side when they had a reservation for the Magic Kingdom view. So in WDW's mind the guest is getting all of the services from the 12th floor and are still paying their original rate. Plus since neither view on the Atrium Club Level is guaranteed I am not sure the type of room the guest orginally boked matters, because the room itself on both sides is more expensive then the Magic Kingdom and Bay Lake views on the regular floors.

You missed the point,Jason. The OP says she doesn't want the upgrade if it means giving up her MK view, even if getting Atrium Club Bay Lake View is considered an upgrade

Yes, it is an upgrade, but I agree that they cannot force you to accept that upgrade if you don't want it.

All you would need to do if you are offered an "upgrade", if it does not include the MK view, is to politely decline. Usually the manager will give you an available MK view room and offer the "upgrade" to the next guest. If for some reason every MK view room is filled and they do not have it available you can ask to be placed in a theme park view room at one of the other monorail resorts (usually they try to keep you in the same resort but it is possible for them to walk you to another resort - just ask). The odds of the "upgrade" occuring are really low and you will be given options in the event that the resort is oversold. In the unlikely event that they don't have a choice and you are forced to take the "upgrade" you can ask to be moved to a MK view room as soon as it becomes available, usually the next day, during your stay. You will love your MK view room!pixiedust:
