concierge question

We are planning a trip in March 2008  . We are debating between Poly, CR, or AKL. DH really wants to stay concierge because he's afraid that if we don't, we will wish we had after we get there. My question is this then: If we stay concierge, should we still do the dining plan? How much food is available and at what times of the day? Or, do you do concierge just for the other perks and drinks, etc., and still eat in the parks most of the time. Any help would be great because I'm not sold on the concierge thing yet other than having a great room location and good views at Poly or CR.
TIA

Concierge snacks are not a substitute for real meals, except at breakfast. I guess you COULD load up and skip meals but you'd be missing one of the best parts of a WDW stay -- all the interesting and themed restaurants.

It's nice to have a glass of wine and some hors d'ouevres in the early evening. We're not big breakfast eaters so it does replace breakfast for us, but wouldn't for everyone. And I believe different resorts have different types of offerings.

We booked a deluxe at WL with the dining plan. At the time I booked the deluxes were not Club level, but now they are. I am still keeping the dining plan because my family is not breakfast eaters and the offerings in the Club lounge will be perfect for us. Now I've got three meals a day covered!!

We LOVE , LOVE , LOVE the POLY concierge! While, we have never had outstanding help from the staff, it is such a treat to stay in the Hawaii Bldg. It is more for convenience.....breakfast, snacks, beverages.

We debated this same question for our December trip. We ended up getting the meal plan as our children like the character meals and we wanted to try LeCellier....I think those alone, made it a good deal for us.

The serving times are usually around breakfast: 7:00-10:00, afternoon snacks 1:00-4:00pm, evening appetizers 5:00-7:00pm, cordials and desserts 8:00-10:00pm.

We find that we use the "food" perk more during the summer months than any other time. This is because we make the 5:00pm appetizer our dinner, then go off to the parks until closing. In the "off" season, it doesn't work as well since the parks close earlier. And the food is completely done at 7:00pm and not a minute later.

Thanks for all the great replies! It would be such a splurge for us to stay concierge at Poly, but it's what we really want to do!

Can anyone tell me about the alcohol situation? One of the reasons DH wants to stay concierge is so he can have a beer in the evening. Is there a lot of variety? I love a good margarita, too, so that would be even better!

Also, regarding Poly, if you book Lagoon view club level, are you gauranteed a view of the MK from your room? I would love to be able to see the fireworks. I know you can from the lounge for sure, right?

You can see the fireworks from your room, but you have to decide if you want to see it from the 1st floor with the ability to walk out to the beach, or from a higher floor, either the 2nd with no balcony or 3rd with a balcony.
As for alcohol, they have wine and beer, but I don't recall any mixed drinks. There might have been sangria one night.

I think the Club Level Lounges all have mixed drinks such as Baileys and other drinks lilke that. So they do have more then just Beer and Wine however I think it's still a limited selection so if you wanted more of a selection, the bars outside the Club Level Lounges would be the place to go.

Poly concierge had no margaritas, but they did have this yummy sangria type punch. We drank a lot of that!!!!!

We stayed on the CR 14th floor a couple of years ago. I can't tell you how "special" it made us feel.:cloud9: Our room keys were golden. You should have seen the "look" on almost every CM when we used them for charging.;)

Even without any food or booze, the price was worth it for the views alone. SPECTACULAR!!! We requested, and received a bay view. We could see the top lights of the Epcot FW's everynight. I wish I'd brought bonoculurs (sp?)... The deck was HUGE!!! Nearly every night we'd have dessert on the balacony of the lounge and watch Wishes. :wizard: The music was piped in on the TV. Watching it in the MK really makes you feel like a "commoner" after that. ;)

The room was so large, as the bathroom.

Last year we stayed Club Level at the Royal Pacific. This year we're looking forward to Club level at AKL.

Whenever my family and I stay on the 12th Atrium Club of the Contemporary and we are given the gold keys, we have also had Cast Members with the same reaction. One time while paying at the ABC Commissary the Cast Member told me I never seen this colour card before, so I told her what it was.
