We are having a hard time deciding between Mauna Lani Bay Hotel and Kapalua Bay Hotel. Has anyone ever stayed at either of these, or both? Looking for help on deciding. Both seem very nice. Thanks in advance.

Kapalua Bay hands down for Golfers, the course there is beautiful! I had the opportunity a year ago to actually stay at both for a business meeting and then at Kapalua a month later on vacation. By far enjoyed Kapalua because of the Golf. Enjoy!!:smooth:

If you keep an eye on the Travel Channel they usually run an episode of "Great Hotels" on the Mauna Lai Bay Hotel & Bungalows. (I just checked June and of course, its not on!) I've watched this one because it was a choice in the CC. All I can say is WOW!!! I would love to stay at this place!

A lot of people post when hotels that are part of our collections come up on the Travel Channel so keep your eyes on this board.

Thank you for your responses. I appreciate them, and will keep my eye out for that show on the Travel Channel. DVC doesn't have 2004 points out yet for Mauna Lani, so I can't make reservations yet anyway if I want to use points.:p

I spent 8 incredible days at the Mauna Lani last year. I'd love to go back some day. If you do a search with my name, you'll see a couple lengthy trip reports I wrote. There's quite a bit of detail there if you're interested.

I'd also love to try the Kapalua resort someday too. I suspect that I'd really enjoy it there as well. :D

I can give you a first-hand, up-to-date report on Kapalua in early July. Leaving for a 12 night stay there next Wednesday, followed by 4 nights at another hotel on Maui. I've got your e-mail address and I'll get in touch when I recuperate. Sounds like you're not making the reservations real soon.

We have stayed at both resorts. Both are beautiful properties. When we stayed at Kapalua, we rejected the first room they offered us and then were given a HUGE, spectacular, oceanview room. The grounds and lobby are lovely. Mauna Lani is also wonderful. The grounds there are very extensive and historic. You would love both places, I'm sure. Kapalua is not too far from Kaanapali and Lahaina, if you like lots of activity. Mauna Lani is quite a ways from Kona (30 miles??), so if lots of night life and shopping is important to you, then it might not be too convenient. Have you been to both Maui and Big Island? Maybe you would want to make your decision based on what each island has to offer. Once again, I think you can't go wrong. Maui and Big Island are our 2 favorites. We always go to both when we go to Hawaii because we just can't choose. You have a no-lose situation here, I think.

Thank you for your response. We are leaning towards Kapalua, may I ask what was wrong with the room that you rejected it? We have never been to the islands, but are traveling with parents who have been many times. Thanks

The first room was near a section of the resort where construction was going on and we were fearful of noise. They changed us with no problem. (This was about 2 years ago). The decor in Kapalua's rooms seemed more traditional "island" (e.g. louvered sliding doors rather than blinds or curtains over the lanai door) whereas Mauna Lani seemed more "modern."

We stayed at the Kapalua Bay Hotel last year and it was beautiful. Did not stay at the other hotel, but hey, you are in Hawaii??! Kapalua was real nice and I loved the lobby.

Can't tell you anything about either place but I can tell you that Maui is the only place I've ever been (next to Disney) that I would have stayed there for the rest of my life in a heartbeat!

Growing up in the Northeast I never knew that water was blue.

And if you spend a day to travel the Road To Hana (30 miles but it takes 6 hrs roundtrip due to the winding roads) you will see waterfalls, beautiful foliage, mountains and hidden black sand beaches.

I wanna go back!!!!!!:smooth:
