We have stayed at both resorts. Both are beautiful properties. When we stayed at Kapalua, we rejected the first room they offered us and then were given a HUGE, spectacular, oceanview room. The grounds and lobby are lovely. Mauna Lani is also wonderful. The grounds there are very extensive and historic. You would love both places, I'm sure. Kapalua is not too far from Kaanapali and Lahaina, if you like lots of activity. Mauna Lani is quite a ways from Kona (30 miles??), so if lots of night life and shopping is important to you, then it might not be too convenient. Have you been to both Maui and Big Island? Maybe you would want to make your decision based on what each island has to offer. Once again, I think you can't go wrong. Maui and Big Island are our 2 favorites. We always go to both when we go to Hawaii because we just can't choose. You have a no-lose situation here, I think.
