...the resort that they bought into? For instance, if you were able to get a great deal with points or price but it wasn't the resort of your choice but you went ahead and bought it anyway. Has this happened to anyone and they said "I wish I had waited for my first choice of resorts"(I'm assuming for the reason that you can't get the eleven month window)? Just curious. Thanks!

The only thing I might have done different is with my addon. I added 50 points at HH. Since I don't plan to use them there, that might not have been the best move. However, so far I have used them for last minute trips to OKW so it has not been an issue.

We bought BWV when it first opened. When we returned to NY, we wanted to add-on more, but since BWV wasn't approved in NY yet, we could only add-on at OKW. At the time, the seventh month window wasn't really a problem getting rooms at the BW, so we added on another 150 okw points. Now it's not impossible, but pretty tough to trade in at the 7 month window for the BW. I don't really regret it, We have had some really nice trips at the OKw, but our family prefers the BW area. We've since added on 4 more times at the BW. We're trying to sell our Okw now, and looking to purchase either more BW or BCV.

I wish we had bought more points in the beginning. We bought 170 at BWV, as I was trying to keep costs down AND convince husband this was a good thing. We did have to finance, and are still paying. Right before BWV sold out we added on 30 more points for an even 200, and luckily we could afford to pay cash for those 30 points.

Then we went on the cruise last year and husband had a blast. Said he would like to do that more often. He went to a few of the DVC Open Houses onboard and found out more info on DVC. (He didn't take the DVC tour when we bought originally, as I was there on a solo trip). After he saw all we could trade out for, he wanted more points.

Since BWV was sold out, we added on 100 at VWL. We haven't stayed there yet, but are staying in Jan. 2003. BWV is more our style, so we will use the VWL points mostly to trade. I just wish we had bought all 300 points in the beginning at BWV.

We have 300 at OKW and added 110 to VB 3 months ago. We wanted to get the 11 month window at VB for the winter months, and wanted 1 off-site ocean front and one on site WDW property. We plan on going to VB every other year(banking-borrowing=220pts) As for our next add-on, it will definately be at OKW, we are looking for a 100 pt add-on through re-sale, and are on the waiting list at DVC. I like to have the majority of our points at OKW, this way it is easier to make the ressies at the 11 month window. Also , since OKW is the largest of the DVC resorts, we can switch our VB(pts) ressies at the 7 month window, and get what we want, since we don't travel at peak times.:D
So unless you are talking a lot of points (500-800), I don't see the advantage of owning small contracts (50-100) at 3 or 4 resorts.

I think the resort should be your 1st proity (sp) when selecting a resale contract. Then get the best deal you can for your home resort. Extra banked points mean nothing if for the next 40 years you wished somewhere else was home.... And yes, the 11 month booking window can be important as some point....

Hope that helps

Renee, my DH also turned to me and said "let's add on" when we went to the DVC reception while on the cruise this past September. We've been OKW members since '91, and we added on 104 VWL points.

DH had never stayed at the WL. We stayed in a 1 bedroom in November and we loved it. We have since added on an additional 46 points at VWL, giving us an even 150.

No regrets.

Good for you.

We stayed at the VWL over the Thanksgiving Holidays (2002) and Loved it. Our next add on with be VWL.
