We are considering a Fantasy Feb. 22 eastern Caribbean cruise in 2014. Would like a veranda but concerned about smokers that would be next to us. What is the smoking policy on the Fantasy.

Here ya go:

Question
Where can I smoke on board?
Answer
Disney Cruise Line has never allowed smoking in Guest staterooms. In addition, smoking is prohibited in all interior spaces throughout our ships. In an effort to provide a cruise experience that satisfies both our non-smoking and smoking Guests, smoking (including the use of electronic cigarettes) is only permitted in designated areas of the ship.

On the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder, smoking is permitted on:
•Stateroom verandahs
•Outdoors on Deck 4 starboard side from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. only
•The starboard side open-air decks 9 and 10 (excluding the Mickey Pool area).

On the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy, smoking is permitted on:
•Stateroom verandahs
•Deck 4 port side, aft, the outside Promenade Deck from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
•Deck 12 port side, aft, the outdoor area that is accessible through the Meridian Lounge
•Deck 13 port side, forward, by Currents Bar

Guests who are found smoking in their staterooms will be charged a $250 stateroom recovery fee. This fee covers deep cleaning that includes air filter replacement, carpet extraction and the cleaning and replacement of drapes, comforters, blankets and pillows.

Due to differences in size and the availability of some services while out at sea, our policies will sometimes differ slightly from similar ones at the Walt Disney World Resort. We have carefully considered which areas of our ships to designate as smoking and non-smoking, and we do periodically review our policies to ensure continued Guest satisfaction.

Thanks for the info. Looks like we would have difficulty avoiding a smoker that smokes on a veranda next to our veranda. Wish that was not the case and we won't stay in an interior cabin.

That cruise is so far out and in the off season so you shold be able to get a room that is all the way forward so you won't have to worry about smoke as long as the ship is moving. When the ship is not moving, it is unlikely you'll even get the smell of smoke on your verandah.

Granted I have only been on one disney cruise so far. We were on the Fantasy. NO ISSUES with smokers in any room near us on the verandah or for any of our dinner mates.

In general, if I looked down the ship I didn't see any smokers really hanging off their verandah blowing smoke downstream.

Just sayin'

You can always choose an outside stateroom with a porthole. It doesn't open but then you wouldn't have to worry about it. I've only had a verandah once and it wasn't an issue. What I hate is walking through the adult area on the pool deck. You have to hold your breath just to get to the door. Bleh! :crazy2:

We don't smoke and have never had any issue with smokers at all. Book your cabin and enjoy your cruise .. If you start worrying about things now, you'll be a nervous wreck by the time it actually comes round!!

The basic policy is that smoking is permitted on verandahs. You may or may not have a problem, but it's up to each person to decide if that's enough to be a dealbreaker. You can always get an oceanview cabin with a porthole. I know you said you won't get an interior cabin but I don't know how you feel about a porthole. I do know people who consider a porthole to be not good enough, they have to be able to go outside.

My boyfriend and I had a Navigator's Veranda on our cruise and the guy next to us smoked cigars on his verandah and we never noticed. (He saw us in the hall and asked us to make sure it wasn't bothering us...it wasn't LOL!)

I was thinking since these are more "enclosed" you might be more protected.

I'm not sure if they haven't made the smoking area on decks 9 and 10 smaller. When I was on the Wonder, it seemed there was just a small area up near the spa entrance/sports deck where smoking was allowed (and pretty bad, I thought) but I don't remember anyone smoking back by the food windows or even near the outside area of the cove pool/cafe. I did see people smoking on deck 4.

Thought it was ironic that those going to the spa or sports deck had to walk through the smokers.

We were in Cabin 5688 on the Fantasy, and our verandah didn't have any neighbors at all!

Here's the room on the Dream... it's the same on the Fantasy

As you can see there are no verandahs on either side. There are no verandahs below either! There is a verandah above, but smoke blows upward... so if there were people smoking above you... you probably wouldn't notice or smell it.

It's a Category 7A room... so it's a Navigator's Verandah room. It has an undersized verandah. Here are some photos of our verandah to give you an idea of the size:

We found it to be plenty of room for the 2 of us.

On decks 9 & 10 the Mickey Pool area is where the quick serve locations are. And there's no smoking there. From the Donald pool area forward (starboard side) it is a smoking area. Including the Quiet Cove pool area.

Maybe there just weren't many smokers on your cruise.

We booked a Navigator's verandah for our upcoming Fantasy cruise. We are the first verandah in the aft part of the ship after several oceanview staterooms (we're the same as 7680 but on the port side) in this diagram...

I was told by the booking agent that this was a good way to ensure we don't have to deal with smoke.

Thank you all for your replies. We really would like to enjoy sitting on a verandah, especially in the morning and late evening. We were on the Big Red Boat 22 years ago and I was hoping things have changed regarding smoking.

I've had cancer twice (including lung) and need to avoid smoke. If anyone wants to smoke I feel that is their business, health issue, and odor problem. I just don't like it imposed on me or my family. Anyhoo...I will take it into consideration when booking a cruise.

Thanks again...happy sailing. :)

I just got off the magic today and on our verandah it has a note asking to respect your neighbors. I am a smoker and the one time I smoked I made sure the neighbors weren't out. I'm pretty sure you will see that it won't be an issue. Although I can't guarantee that everyone is a courteous smoker. Just remember they usually aren't in their room long.

Very nice of you! I would take a room next to yours any day!:)

8 cruises, 6 with verandas. The most recent we were in an aft 5E and the smoking situation was awful. I exercise out there & I tried super early, mid or late morning but one of the two of them were always smoking. It was one after another. I was sad. They smoked next to us AND there were smokers above us as well. It's a crap shoot tho. I am certainly not going to stop booking verandah cabins that's for sure!

Please reconsider. On our first and only Disney cruise last August we had smokers on both sides of our verandah room. Surprisingly , it was NEVER an issue due to the winds while sailing. I think the only issue you may have is when you are docked in a port, other than that, you are not affected at all due to the ship in motion. There were several nights my husband and I both sat on our verandah and could see the smoke from the rooms on each side of us, but I could not smell it at all. I hope you don't decide to give up on Disney due to the smoking, it is not a factor at all while the ship is in motion. When the ship was in port we were too busy with excursions, so I can not comment on that. I hope you have a great cruise on whatever ship you choose.
