Hello everyone:

I'm new to these boards. I'm very grateful I found all of you. I've enjoyed reading what everyone has to say and the great tips you all have to offer.

We have a big camping trip to FW coming up the weekend of April 22nd and I want to make sure that everything goes well, so I'm very concerned with how much ice you can get out of the machines at FW. Since we are going to be tenting, I don't want to have to spend a small fortune in keeping our food items cold.

Does anyone know how to go about this short of taking a refrigerator?

Thanks in advance for all your help!

We've never had problems with the amount of ice that you can get, but it is rather expensive to keep buying it and filling coolers. We finally bought an Igloo cooler that plugs in. It works great, and no more ice to mess with!! :cool1:

We still use ice in a cooler for sodas and bottled water though, to keep room in the plug-in cooler for milk, eggs, meat, etc.

We got one of those new coolers last year that keeps things colder longer. I'd invest in a newer model cooler before you go - they are not that expensive. Then, freeze some big blocks of ice at home to start your trip off. I usually will take a gallon milk (or 1/2 gal) jug and freeze the water solid. This will keep things cold for 4-5 days before you have to even buy ice. (works like the old "ice boxes") You can then use the gallon jug of thawed water for coffee, drinking, etc.

I will also add some of my foods frozen when I pack (hot dogs, quart bottles of milk, water bottles) the cooler.

Try to keep your cooler out of the sun - cover it with a blanket for greater insulation.

The ice at FW is expensive and melts rather fast. You can figure on buying a new bag every day to day-and-a-half. Ugh!!!
