No flames please!

My husband and I are taking a sort of spur of the moment vacation to Monterey Aug. 9-11 and we thought as new DVC members it would be cool to check out one of the Conceirge collection hotels. I honestly didn't think they would have availability at the Monterey, CA hotel but they did HOWEVER MS informed me that there was a $95 charge to book that hotel. That seemed kind of steep to me considering you could book the hotel on your own for only $249/night. I knew that there would be a fee for some hotels but $95 plus 30 points just didn't sound like a good idea for a quick getaway. Can anyone tell me if all the conceirge collection hotels have such a steep charge and give me some insight as to why someone would book that? Maybe in a use it or lose it situation?

Thanks in advance for your response!

ALL exchanges have a fee to them....Concierge or World passport....Welcome to the world of how timeshares work.

Cash Poor, Points Rich!

That's the beauty of this! You have a choice!

CC and adventurer collection (inc alaska cruise) are $95. DCL and II are $75. DC other than DCL is nothing. This is how they system works though it's not really timeshares but more like a FF miles or reward points system. IN almost all cases, you will not get full value for your points if you use a market value of around $10 pp as the basis, which is IMO, a conservative valuation.
