I went to a link the other day, and somehow managed to get some virus/anti spyware on it. A bubble appeared in my lower menu (red with x) saying your computer has been infected with a virus click here to remove. Which i started to do, It totally looked like the Windows Microsoft warnings, but i don't think it was. When i clicked it it automatically started to download an antivirus cleaner. Which i tried to stop. In the meantime it downloaded. Then i went to my control panel, which now looks different. My icons are all listed indivually not like before, and i can't change that.

So, i went to add/remove software, and the anti virus thing was there which i removed. I deleeted and did a full virus scan with AVG.
I also rain Lavasoft and it said all was removed. However, that red x on the bottom keeps coming up saying my computer is infected.

Anyone help me how to get it off. If i do a system restore to previous point will that work?

HELP!! THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!! :lovestruc

find the name of the virus then search for a removal tool.
Many times the tool is automated, which makes it very easy to use.

How can i find the name of it? I dont want to click on the red x again, as it automatically starts downloading stuff/?

Got it last night - yuck!!!!

The gimmic is they sell you something to get rid of it !!!!

Mine is called "internet antivirus pro" - we finally disabled it by moving the executable file out of the "program folder" so that the trigger cannot find the *.exe and cleaned out the program folder - took us a couple of hours to disarm.

Kasparsky has sent us instructions to remove it but looks VERY complicated.

try running "trend micro - housecall" to get the name.

Ick. We got that awhile back and it was a real booger to remove. Good luck getting it removed. :)

Thanks everyone, i went to the other thread link and someone posted the Malware antivirus, and that worked to get rid of it...for now ;)

I read that the Malaware AV worked for you, but just in case.....

Is the antivirus XP?

If the answer is yes, I had that a couple of months ago. It was such a big, BIG pain to remove!

The only thing that did get rid of it (after four days of hours and hous trying, malaware included AV) was http://www.superantispyware.com/?tag=GOOGLE-SUPERANTISPYWARE

It did an excellent job!

I don't know how I got infected with that %**&$ virus, I NEVER downloaded anything!

Looks like just surfing the web is not as safe anymore

Good Luck!

You can also restore your computer to an earlier date. Then run your anti spyware, etc. The bug should show up then and you can quarantine and remove it.

The AntivirusXP ruined my System Restore. I could not restore to a point before I got the virus. It was the incredible the way it took over my computer.

OMG, that is nasty.

A few years back my husband's computer got a hijaker, he ended up buying Spyware Doctor, nothing free would fix it, and system restore didn't work either.

I hope no one else gets this bug.
