Anybody have a solution to this problem. Are have more website that I can post on that I can open the post to reply.

I hope that made sense.

If you are sure it is not malware, I would run "repair windows" from your original installation disk. But it sounds like malware.....

What version of Windows are you running? If you're running XP, you can turn back the clock, so to speak by:
Start
All Programs
Accessories
System Tools
System Restore
then go back to the date before your problem started

It's always worth a try.

I am running Windows XP. I did try go back to point where did not have problems. Did that before sending out S.O.S.

If I do system restore. I will lose some things that i save on th computer. I usually do a backup once month and ii have not do one in three months and there is files that I won't to save but can't access them.

I also say try restoring your computer to a date prior to the Limewire, etc. downloads. Maybe that will help.

Your steps made sense until the above - what does that mean?

Something to try - click Start/Run and type "msconfig" and click OK.

Go to the Startup tab and make a note of everything that is checked (write down the names).

Then uncheck everything, click OK, then restart.

When it restarts, you'll see another message pop up from the System Configuration Utility - tell it you don't want to see the message again (check the box) and click OK.

See if things work now, like Internet Explorer.

If they do, run msconfig again, go to the Startup tab, and check the things that were checked before that have names that you might recognize. It's not an exact science, but expand the Command column - if the folder name sounds like something you purposefully installed, check it.

Another way to tell if you should check it or not is to go to google.com and do a search on the last part of the name (the part with the .exe) and you'll likely get a description of what that file does. Only check it if you think you need it based on the description.

If that doesn't help, it's possible you have some sort of spyware that hosed your "Windows Sockets" DLL(s). These control everything that goes on with the Internet and some spyware/viruses replace the Windows version with another and it becomes insidiously hard to get rid of. My dad got infected with one of these and it took me hours to get rid of it. (Although if this was your problem, I'm suprised your spyware scans didn't catch it, so that may not be it.)

The best place I use to diagnose computer problems is groups.google.com - this is an archive of all Usenet postings and you can search them to see if anyone has had a problem similar to yours and possibly find solutions or things to try. It's an excellent resource. I'm in the computer field and I use groups.google.com almost every day for something.
