Computer Problem Help

I'm hoping someone can save my world I decided to move my desktop today. I moved it about five feet into another room. I shut the computer down, and unplugged everything from the computer. I then moved the computer and proceeded to plug everything back in. When I plugged something in I heard some humming sound. I turned the power strip off, and it was still making that sound. It eventually stopped.

When I had everything hooked up, I turned on the computer, and it didn't turn on. I changed the power cord from another computer, and it doesn't make a difference. The ONLY thing that I possibly did and was not thinking was that I did not unplug the power cord from the outlet when I plugged it in.

I have no idea what to do.

first guess is that your power supply is bad-if the computer is not getting power at all-thats the most likely scenario. They are not very hard to replace-pretty easy to do yourself-just becareful-if the computer is an apple their parts are all proprietary and you will need to order one from them.

plug the computer directly into an outlet, no power strips, does it start?

there might be a manual rocker type power switch on the back of the computer case (this is a desktop, right?).

I would start with the power strip...Plug computer directly into the wall....see if it boots then....Also look on the front or back for a reset...try that...let us know...

You mave have fried the power supply. About 40 bucks at a computer store...Memory could be bad, Motherboard...could be any number of things but I would start with the basics first

That is the most common cause; and power supplies tend to go on boot-up (which is one reason why some people prefer leaving their computer on all the time -- fewer chances for the power supply to die).
