Computer gurus ... (presumably) router issues, need help.

First off, please excuse my non-technical terms. My allergies are in overdrive and the medicine I take for it leaves me a little out of sorts.

So basically - I have a computer downstairs, external modem and router and the kids have my old computer upstairs. I can't remember offhand what it's called but there's a USB plug-in thing for the computer upstairs to "capture" the wireless router's signal so the kids can have internet access.

The problem is that they can only be on a short period of time, half hour at the most, and *poof* no more internet access. Being that I am not computer savvy I can't understand why.

If you can tell me the info you need I will post it and see if we can't figure this out. I'd post a bunch of specs now but I don't know which ones are needed to figure this out.

I need more information-like-are there error messages when they lose access? What do you have to do to restore it-does rebooting it work or does it need a set amount of time before the connection is restored? Are other computers able to access the wireless signal and if they are do they have the same problem? Are you sure that the computer is accessing your wireless network or could they be accessing a neighbors? Do you have security of any type set on your router? do you have parental controls set on either computer? what bad is the wireless card on the computer that is having the issue? and is it the same or equal to what is on your router?

answers to these questions may cause me to ask others-you can PM me if you would like.
