Complaining the $13 per paycheck isn't enough?

I've said in other posts that even though this is a joke along with the rest of the bill, I am glad to receive any tax cut. Although it looks like I won't qualify to get it. What happend to the under $250 k a year tax cut?

Smart politicians will link such tax cuts/credits to the business being able to show that they added jobs... I'm just saying.

However, I think that you guys may be on to something with the whole "spread it out" - $13/wk approach. I think Obama realizes that McDonald's is the magic bullet to turning this whole boat around. When people start buying an extra value meal or two a pay period with that money well be singing "Happy Days" again in no time! As an added bonus, "freak-out-guy" from Ft. Myers will finally be able to get some real benefits!
Why would you assume that people will go to McDonald's? I expect that in my case that the extra money would just be spent in the grocery store or wherever without really thinking about budgeting $13 to go to a specific thing. I bet that most people will just spend it without giving it a thought.

Besides, we prefer Wendy's. ;)

For me the $13 will help pay all the extra taxes that are going to go into effect in California. I won't be spending any extra, except on sales tax, car tax, gas tax and anything else Arnie and the gang can think of.

I think most people are actually outraged by the amount of debt that it is going to add to the U.S. in order to give people an extra $13. $13 isn't going to make a bit of difference for most people. The other thing is the amount of debt we're adding in order to give $250 to recipients of SS. I was talking to my grandmother yesterday and she says that in her opinion it is the most ridiculous waste of money. She and my grandfather who are both in their 80's live on SS and a small pension that my grandmother gets, they have a bit of savings in case of an emergency but basically live on their SS. We figured out their budget and after paying bills and buying groceries they generally have around $700 left over per month, they like the majority of SS recipients have their house paid for and their car paid for, so they have very few expenses other than utilities and groceries. So why give them $250?? They won't spend it, they will put it in their savings and therefore it will not stimulate the economy. Most SS recipients are older wiser people and they are nervous right now so they are not very likely to run out and spend their $250, they will sock it away for a rainy day.

Yep...far to small of a band aid for the size wound it is opening.Just not worth the future problems it brings. BTW, my friends ( IRL ) who voted for Obama...none of them think it is a good idea either and most plan to try and set it aside. One of them said it was a slap in the face ( which made me think it was a Democrat complaining it isn't enough money :confused3 )...remember that now, she VOTED for him. Did I take that opportunity to shove it in her already feeling slapped face? No. Apparently you are forgetting we are all suffering this together. BTW, I did n't vote for a gas holiday either.

Of course, most of us individually won't notice that $13 but imagine it multiplied by everyone who receives the benefit. That amount is likely to be huge. (Has anyone seen actual estimates?)

True but if individuals are already cutting back on buying things how is $13 going to change that? I don't think it will give individuals enough reason to suddenly go out and spend.

So, how many of you now complaining about the $13 per week increase you’ll be getting in your paycheck supported the gas tax holiday proposal this past summer? How many of you were angry when it didn't happen because YOU NEEDED that money to spend? How many of you remember how much that would have saved the average American over the summer? According to several sources, this would have saved the average American about $30 over the summer. I didn’t find a single estimate that thought people would save me more than $50.

$13 per week per household adds up to just over $700 per year (do the math, more than $50). By spreading out the money over time, it’s practically guaranteed to be spent, pushing that money right back into our struggling economy. When I was given my stimulus check last year, I stuck it straight into my savings account. I spent some of it slowly over the next 6 months. I’m sure most of it still sits there, earning a pittance of interest for me, but doing NOTHING to stimulate the economy. Sure, I’d love for it to be MORE in my weekly check. It would have been too. If only the Republicans hadn’t insisted that this tax cut for the working class be reduced in favor of tax cuts for businesses.

You can’t have it both ways. I love how you guys flip flop on tax cuts for the American people, depending on source of the idea.

What I would complain about is how Michelle Obama criticized Bush for his Rebate check/tax cuts and how it was not enough, but praised Obama for his tax cut (which seems to be less then Bushes):scared1: That appears to be a flip-flop to me:scared:

Looks like someone beat me to that example. Glad to see you conserves on the ball against these wacked out libs:thumbsup2

"That was a joke, son! A joke, I say!!!"

ahhhh, Michelle, the same Michelle who made the comment about 'finally' being able to be proud to be from the US...or in the U.S..(I know not verbatum, flame me, but you know the idea) during the campaign.THAT Michelle? The same one who keeps complaining that they lowered the bar for Bush but have raised it for her husband? Can't WAIT until she is meeting with other countries, speaking on the behalf of the USA. All I keep hearing from her is ME ME ME.....isn't that what the Dem's keep accusing the Repubs about? The inexperience is showing , loud and clear. I'm from Chicago, the track record of Politicians from here is not good.

Now why do you think that was necessary at all? Not once did I call people names. By all means, either join the discussion or go away.

Likie I'm going to notice an extra 13 bucks in my paycheck. Come on how many adults are really going to notice 13 WHOLE XTRA DOLLARS??

Ummmm...I will! We are a middle class 2 income family. As I stated yesterday, an extra $13/week means my car insurance for the month is taken care of. Thus I can use that money to pay down my student loans and such. Meaning that each year I can put an additional $700 or so towards debt...that's about 5 months worth of student loan payment. Meaning that my 10 year loan can be paid off in maybe 6 years or so. In a few years, I can use my income to stimulate the economy...and this $13/week is getting me there quicker! I will take whatever I can get...

Holy crapola....a 10 year car loan? Do they even have those????? :scared1:

Oh and its $13 per bi-weekly paycheck, not per week.

Please tell me about your car insurance. Mine costs like $750 every 6 months.

$13 a pay will partially offset the additional 10 million my town has proposed raising taxes. That comes out to over $20 pay for my family alone.

This does nothing to help our economy, sorry folks.

That is some cheap car insurance! Please share because mine is $700 every 6 months :scared:

I was wondering the same thing.

I think Obama get's a pass because I'm pretty sure he said 95% of Americans will get a tax cut. And he said no one making less than $250K will see a tax increase...they won't get a tax cut, but they also won't get a tax increse.

Count me in as someone that thinks that the tax credit idea and the gas tax holiday idea are both stupid. If you want to lower income taxes, lower the tax rates. Don't hand out a credit. The only rationale for that is to give tax money to people that don't pay taxes. That hardly seems fair, espcially to those that pay a lot of taxes and don't get the credit at all.

I hate all these tax gimmicks. Give me a nice simple tax code with a few different rates for progressivity.
