Since there are many restaurants where you get a discount as a DVC member, I am trying to determine if also purchasing Tables in Wonderland is worth the money. What made you to decide to purchase or not to purchase TIW ?

I know that this has an annual renewal. Does the 365 days start the first time you use it like the Annual Passes?

It starts from when you buy it. And it's a little longer than 365 days most of the time. The discount s are much more robust than the AP or DVC discounts in terms of which meals it can be used on and which restaurants. And the alcohol thing of course can really add up.

There is no renewal by the way, you just purchase a new card. No discount.

We have changed the way that we vacation at WDW. Most of our children are adults who like to travel with us :). We like to enjoy a couple of drinks before/during dinner. Usually we eat one sit-down meal per day. Since we play for a meal a day but sometimes change our minds the day before, Tables works better for us than the meal plan. Also, almost every sit-down takes Tables. I do not want to try to plan dining around the other discounts. It is Tables for us. However, I was upset when the price was raised and vowed to never use it again. Irish temper to blame.

There are blackout dates for TIW, usually around holidays. But there are also selected restaurants (usually our favorites) that are blackout for several weeks at a time. And some restaurants do not accept TIW, some might only accept it for a specific meal or timeframe.

DVC discounts don't do much for me. We have 10 TS booked for our Easter trip and only 2 of those offer DVC discounts.

TIW is borderline on working for us as there are blackout days on Easter and it is enough to make it only break even.

Normally we buy TIW but have decided during a bloc out period to go OOP with a couple of Dvc discounts.

There is no other way to decide than picking where you want to eat and doing the analysis, running the numbers. Thats how we found out OOP was better than TIW at Easter.

We were going to do TiW, but we don't drink alcohol at all and with the added price bump we just weren't going to be eating TS enough to bother. So we'll stick with our paltry 10% on the few places we have booked next month.

There is less overlap than you might expect.

Yes.

We look at each trip. If a trip has a lot of places with DVC discounts and it makes sense to just use that, we just use that. If we are dining at many places with the TIW discount and that makes sense, we buy the TIW. In the past our dining habits have gotten us to the "pure discount" level inside of the first week of a trip, even with just one TS, lower cost meals, and just me having the occasional drink. Any future days of that trip, and any further trip inside the TIW timeframe, is a bonus.

I found a comparison chart on another website that convinced me that TIW was worth the purchase, at least in my eyes. At the time I used this chart the card was $125.00 and I still purchased when we went during Halloween for $150.00. This is a synopsis for 5 adults for the week after Christmas from 12/27/15-1/2/16

OOP 1,678.15
Tax 109.08 OOP saves you $86.97 or 4% over the DDP
Tips
180.57
Total 1,967.80

DDP
1,819.20
Extras (including tax) 55.00 if we order appetizers not included with DDP
Tips 180.57
Total 2,054.77

OOP 1,678.15
TIW 20% discount 186.13
Taxes 96.98 TIW saves you $73.23 or 4% over paying OOP
Tips
180.57 TIW saves you $160.2 or 8% over the DDP
Total
1,769.57
Cost of card 125.00
Total 1,894.57

We used the card for 5 days during Halloween and will use it again with our trip in December and again in when we return later next year.

TIW may not actually save 20% because it's not additive to other discounts. Between AAA, AP, Chase visa, and DVC; the real difference might be as little as 10% savings for TIW. It just depends on which restaurants, day and time.
