Compare the drop in POTC and Maelstrom please

My DW is a coaster/ride drop chicken and is worried about riding Maelstrom: she's never been on it before, and I've only been on it once about 11 years ago and can barely remember it. She can survive the drop in POTC, but isn't sure about the Maelstrom. I've read that the Maelstrom drop is longer, and I know that it is backwards, but is it also steeper than POTC? How much worse do most people find it compared to POTC?

Neither drop is very bad. Neither will get you very wet. However, I find the drop in POTC to be a little more jerky and rough on my back than the one in Maelstrom.

The one in POTC is more surprising than the one on Maelstrom. I also find the one on POTC to be steeper going forward. The backwards drop on Maelstrom is smooth. My daughter, who was scared of everything, loved that the first time we did it and wanted to try Splash when we got off.

Maelstorm is not scary at all, just as you think the ride will get good, it's over. She will be fine to ride

Maelstrom is one of the most bizarre rides I have ever been on. I was a bit more tense about the drop on it, but I think that was just because I've only ridden it once, and Pirates about a million times.

My wife and I had a good laugh at the Maelstrom. It makes Norway look like country populated mostly by trolls and oil fields...an interesting way to present yourself.

I am scared of both. The backwards drop in Maelstrom didn't get me that bad; it was at the end when you go down the hill. I hated that. I am a real chicken, though. I will not ride POTC.

Huge Drop Chicken here! LOL! I survived both pirates & maelstrom--no problem. It helped to be prepared that it was there, though.

Maelstrom is a kiddie hill. I can't believe we waited in line for an hour. What a waste. If there is a long line and you decide to pass you're not missing anything.

Both drops seem only 10 feet or so to me. Both are very easy. And I've never gotten wet on Maelstrom.

I just did this ride a week ago and I hate steep drops but this one didn't bother me a bit, even the backwards drop which was not a big drop at all. If I can handle this one, anyone can!!

I agree, they are kiddie hills. Both rides are. I wish the one in POTC was bigger.

I'd say Maelstrom is the less intense version of two very mild drops.

both drops are very easy. i think maelstrom is even easier that POTC.

Neither of them feels any different to me than going down a kiddie slide at the local park. I think people get all wrapped up in the idea of them and don't realize that they aren't "drops" but just small slides really.

Disney isn't in the business of giving you "extreme thrills" at the MK. Same can be said for Splash Mountain - people miss out on that incredible ride inside because Disney makes the drop look a lot bigger than it is. It's as gentle as a porch swing.

My mom would NEVER EVER go on a coaster and while she doesn't actually enjoy the drops on Pirates or Maelstrom, she WILL go on both because she enjoys the rest of the ride. I don't recall her complaining one ride was worse than the other. Have fun!

It is extremely mild. Imagine going down a small slide at the park (the really small ones)

I hate drops of any kind............especially the ones at Splash Mountain. So the Maelstrom and the POTC are not really drops to me.

I like to get people thinking its a drop on Malestrom though...........I throw my hands up, and yell "Hang On"...Wheeeeeeeeeeeeee.

But Im just evil like that.
