Hi y'all,

I've seen (somewhere) on this board about companies that will buy/trade your used books for credits for other books. Can anyone tell me more? I caved in and bought a few best-sellers lately and they weren't good enough to keep... so I am weighing the pros/cons of freecycling vs sending off to one of these companies...

Can y'all recommend any, and tell me how it works?

I've never done it online, but I know a few people who have used www.half.com and thought it was alright. When I buy a book these days, it's usually on my Kindle, but if it's an actual paper book I tend to either give it to friends or take it to a local used book store for credit and get more books. You'll probably find it's not worth the hassle of doing it online (financially, at least) and will do better locally. I'd check into local used book stores first and go from there if I were you. Or start trading with coworkers/friends/family/etc. :thumbsup2

ETA- Forgot to mention http://www.paperbackswap.com/index.php if you're interested in swapping online. I've used them before a few years back and liked them too. But it does require you to pay for shipping out your book (but the book you receive is shipped to you free). I stopped using it once I got a Kindle and joined a few reader groups and traded with them instead. But it's a viable option for you if you're an avid reader. :)

Paperbackswap...that's the one I'd heard of but couldn't remember. Thanks!!

Doesn't Amazon.com have book trade in? I know they do DVDs & vdeio games, we've done both. You only get pennies on the dollar, we sent in about 15 DVD's & got credit only for 1 new DVD worth $8.99. But I guess its better then throwing them out.

Do you have a Half-Price Books store in your area?

I've taken books, DVD & VHS movies. I've always been treated fairly.

I have sent used books to swagbucks.com. You get swagbucks that can be used at the swagstore on their website. I buy amazon giftcards with my swagbucks.

If you have a Hastings they buy back books as well as DVDs and games. If you get a Hastings gift card you get more but they will also buy for cash.
