Comp Tickets

Not only did he receive them for free, the price per ticket was around $55 back in 2004. I wouldn't buy them from him just because he is being selfish. :)

I would not buy tickets from private parties, where there is no recourse if the ticket turns out to be invalid.

Let me get this straight...

He paid nothing for the tickets

He's had the tickets for 10 years and never bothered to use them

You have a sick child and are hurting for money to take her to Disney World

He wants to charge you $70 for the tickets?!

What a sad, sad man... I just cannot imagine trying to profit from these tickets in that situation. He should really be ashamed.

Hey all. First time poster. Long time reader.

I'm hoping someone with some knowledge can help me here. A gentleman who lives near me is selling COMP tickets he received. He said he received them when his daughter was hurt. They say 1D UPH COMP AD on them with an associated number. Also it says 11/08/04 to 12/31/14.

Are these useable for me? He is charging less and we have a sick little girl who had heart surgery and have medical bills. So the temptation to save money is there. But also don't want to waste it either.

Thanks for your help

I have a couple comp tickets too and just checked the code but mine is different. It's 1D PH RST GS COMP AD. I have no idea what the code UPH is or where they were issued to tell if it's legit, so just questioning that.

Yes it's slimy of him, and that's his karma. Buying tickets not meant to be bought, personally I feel like whenever I do something I'm not supposed to it usually blows up in my face so I wouldn't do it. Maybe wait a while, save up and go for a longer period when she's feeling better and more up to it? I'm also in the NY area and airfare right now is ridiculous (almost $400pp last week of Aug, :faint:). Doing a 24hr drive to enjoy 1-2 days in the park, I wouldn't do that either. There are some local theme park type places that you guys can enjoy with her that will be overall much more reasonable if money is a concern, yet just as fun. I'd look into something like Hershey Park or Zoom Flume and save Disney for a longer trip for next year or the year after.

Just to compare ticket prices, you'd pay him $140 for 2 day tickets which are questionable. I just ordered 5 day tickets from Undercover Tourist for $310 ($290 for child) which I know will be legit.

I would definitely buy them. It's your neighbor, if they dont work or there is a problem most likely the guy will just give you the money back. :thumbsup2

Not telling you what to do but I have been given comp tickets to use and i have purchased discounted tickets from individuals that ended up being comp tickets. The codes on the back of comp tickets varies based on the type of comp and the situation for receiving them. Some are going to be for work offered, some for donation, and some even for injury/incidental while in the park. My only advise is if you are purchasing them from someone you don't know very well then you better use Paypal and be within 45 days of when you plan to use them. If you do then you will be covered from any fraud on the sellers part as long as they are not E-tickets. (Paypal doesn't honor E-tickets). If you know they seller and see them regularly then it would probably be ok to pay cash since they know, you know, where to find them.

He's no friend. I would ignore him totally. Slimeball.

If you go and decide you'd like to stay longer, those tickets are non-upgradeable. You will have to pay all over again to stay longer. In other words, don't buy them unless you really want to go just for one day. I think for someone traveling so far, you'll be disappointed with just one day and thus these tickets will actually end up *costing* you money when you buy another 3 or 4 days to make it a proper trip.

What he has would be more useful to sell to someone in Orlando proper, since then 1 day wouldn't result in a long travel time for so little benefit. Not that they're supposed to be sold at all, of course.

Yeah, I feel it's pretty crappy of the guy to charge $70 each for something he received free 10 years ago. He should give you the tickets since he can't use them before the expiration date. You could give him something like a $50 Target gift card in appreciation.

That said, I don't forsee any problems with the tickets if you do decide to buy them.

No way!!!!!!!

She didn't say it was her neighbor, she said someone that lives in her area... totally different things: "A gentleman who lives near me is selling COMP tickets he received."

I would question the validity of this... how well do you know this person? How did you find out about these tickets?

Thanks for all the great input everyone.

To the people that are saying the one day would not be enough from NY, i agree. He has 10 of these tickets and I was going to buy multiple.

I actually agreed with him to give him $250 for 4 of them which I think is a decent deal. This was also with the agreement that I could email Disney to validate them. Gave me his license plate, phone, and address. So I feel somewhat confident.

To the others suggesting to wait, I get that, but my DD might need another heart surgery at any point. So I wanted to get her there while she would enjoy that young glee and when we could.

I'll let you all know how it turns out! :thumbsup2

I won't comment on the ethics of it, but comp tickets can be given to other people to use. Disney would have no way of knowing if the tickets were given away or sold, so you should be safe to use them. The risk I can think of would be that the tickets were already used. As others have suggested, make sure you have some way of getting your money back if there are issues (paypal, etc.). You can link the tickets to your MDE account immediately and should be able to see number of days on the ticket and verify they are legit.

You will have to judge for yourself whether you are ok buying something that technically should not be available for resale.

I don't know if this will help or not, but could your daughter qualify for Make a Wish ? I just ask because my daughter also had heart surgery and someone at her hospital said she would probably qualify.

Bull twinkies.

anyone unscrupulous enough to charge money for FREE tickets would never give the money back.

I find this whole situation extremely suspicious... why does he have ten comp tickets to sell??

I really really really hope that this works out for you because I'm getting serious red flags from your story :(

He apparently had a bad situation or a problem on his trip. If he was with a party of ten they compensation may have been ten comp tickets, if he had horrible problems and was a party of two they may have given him five each. It's not unheard of.

You can email Ticket.Usage@DisneyWorld.com with the front and back of the tickets and your ID to see if they are valid. Because they are old, you can not add them to MDE. The response is about 10-15 days from ticketing to verify the tickets.

Old tickets CAN be added to MDE. They can be scanned into MDE with a smartphone or tablet using the MDE app as well (as long as there's a barcode on the ticket).

Yes she absolutely does. And thank you for thinking of that. However my wife and I have agreed we want her to be old enough to choose that for herself.
