Hey all. First time poster. Long time reader.

I'm hoping someone with some knowledge can help me here. A gentleman who lives near me is selling COMP tickets he received. He said he received them when his daughter was hurt. They say 1D UPH COMP AD on them with an associated number. Also it says 11/08/04 to 12/31/14.

Are these useable for me? He is charging less and we have a sick little girl who had heart surgery and have medical bills. So the temptation to save money is there. But also don't want to waste it either.

Thanks for your help

I would be extremely suspicious of this...

I'm also fairly certain that comp tickets are not allowed to be sold.

I would make sure to buy the tickets from an authorized dealer (Disney directly or Undercover Tourist).

Anything else could be a scam and then you would lose out on the fee and receive something completely fake and/or un-usable.

I wouldn't risk it, and it sounds illegal to me.

It will say on the comp tickets that they are NOT for sale.

Yes it does say on the bottom NOT VALID FOR CHARGING. I am assuming that means you can't resell, but how would anyone know? What if they were just given to me?

He received the tickets for free, as a compensation for some issue. The expiration is 12/31/14. They are not upgradable in any way. There is no stipulation who can use them. As a neighbor, it would be nice for him to donate them to you, especially knowing your personal situation involving your DD's medical bills. Just my opinion. Curious what his "selling price" is.

Sorry to hear about your little girl. I hope the surgery goes well!

Do you live close enough for a 1-day trip? Or how long a trip are you considering? WDW tickets are priced such that more days on one ticket end up costing less per day -- and a 4-day ticket averages out to about $70, a 5-day ticket is about $60.

I agree with POOHsie that since the tickets cost him nothing, it would be nice if he gave them to you rather than trying to make a buck off his daughter's injury. Personally, I think it's unethical of him to try to sell something he was given for free. Not sure what WDW's official rule would be, though one would think they don't expect COMP tickets to be sold for a profit.

Enjoy your vacation!

Agreed that would be nice, but hey I'll take what I can get! We are only going to be able to go 1-2 days. We are from NY

I would not have a good feeling about buying them from him. First of all, he's had 10 years to use them and now he's asking 70% of the rack rate. I don't think it's very neighborly. If I had comp tickets about to expire, the most I would expect a neighbor to do for them is maybe cat sit for a week for all four of them or maybe mow my lawn twice. For that much money I'd get tickets I could feel good about and upgrade if necessary.

A co-worker's ex-husband used to work with Disney and got a certain number of comp tickets. He sold them and was found out and all tickets were revoked.

These are probably not the same type but I wouldn't feel good about taking such a risk to save a few bucks.

Not advising you to buy at any price but - from the coding these appear to be one day unlimited park hoppers. That's a $131 (average) value.

I don't know anything about the legality of selling those tickets at all, but "Not Valid for Charging" should mean that you can't use them to buy things at WDW like you could with a ticket/resort room key (they were one and the same until Magic Bands) that is linked to a credit card. That is no indication of their resalability, though it all still sounds suspicious to me. I'd be wary.

EDIT: Why is there a lightbulb on my post?

Underneath the post comment box there are a series of radio buttons under the heading post icon. You must have inadvertently pressed this :)

PS I took the thumbs up button.

Honestly, whether it's a "good deal" or not...if you can only go for 1 or 2 days I'd save the money and put it towards a longer trip next year or the year after. You're traveling from NY -- either airfare or a long drive -- that's a lot of time and/or expensive just to get there and back. Presumably at least 2 nights at a hotel, plus meals. Yes, you might save a bit on the first day of tickets if you purchase from this fellow, but if you want to do a second day in the parks you would need to pay full price for a set of one-day tickets, which are the most expensive. With a sick little girl, you may not be able to get a full day's worth of fun accomplished in just one day, either, leaving you feeling like it was more travel time than fun time.

Whatever you decide, I wish you the best and that your little girl is feeling well again soon!

I guess I should consider myself lucky. A friend ( someone I met through someone else) gave me 2 one day hoppers. They expired on June 8 she is CM.....ESPN. The passes stated that they were not for resale! Sure, no one would know, but still.
I guess I should count my blessings that she didn't charge me for them.

I just can't see someone charging someone else for something they didn't pay for to begin with. But, that's just me. I also would be hesitant to have just those as my only park media.

If you are going for 1 day they would be a good deal. If you are going for more, the cost to add a day to a 4 or 5 days pass would be about $10 per day, so it's not a good deal.

If a CM was caught charging you for comp tickets that are designed for her to give to friends or family she would be fired. So it's not luck she didn't charge you but Disney policy. She didn't want to chance getting fired ;)
