Every person in the Personal Development (teen issues) class at my school has to do 20 hours of community service. I'm going to be working at the Humane Society...

And homework was to bring in at least three more community service ideas, plus the one you're thinking of doing in case it doesn't go through...as she (the teacher) denied my request to volunteer at the Art Fair at the Children's Booth...

We love having teen helpers at the shelter where I work. It is a domestic violence shelter. We let the teens work with the younger kids. They help the child advocate with support group and boosting the kid's self esteem.

Does it have to be "organized"?

LIke - can you volunteer at a retirement home on bingo night?
Or rake leaves for the elderly in your neighborhood in the fall?
Or volunteer at a children's hospital as a striper (or just someone to read to the kids?)

I was involoved in a community service group in HS...did alot of that stuff. (yes, I was a geek...heheh)

Our senior service requirement was 40 hours. Most of us did in excess of 100. I volunteered with the American Red Cross and found it to be some of the most fulfilling work I could have ever done.

Stinkerbelle-I have to let her know what I'm going to do and have an organized plan of "attack" at least 48 hours in advance. She did say we weren't allowed to help teachers or work for the elderly...:(
Thanks!!

Ducklite-hmm...I may be rethinking my choice...

dmslush-I might check there...thanks!

Rafiki Rafiki Rafiki-Thanks!!

My son does a lot of coaching and has way over the 40 hours of community service that Ontario teens are required to have in order to graduate.

A lot of kids help out at tournaments, tutor, run clubs like Brownies or Girl Guides or chapters of groups like Free the Children, mow the lawns or shovel snow for seniors, volunteer at summer camps, help or organize leadership conferences, help with local elections, canvas for charities, etc. etc. etc.
