Common name , but a different spelling?

This strikes a sour note with me....

My name is Jennie (not Jenny, not Jennifer). I was named after my grandmother, which is very nice, but it has been spelled wrong (Jenny) all my life, or it has been pronounced wrong (Jeannie). It been driving me crazy for 38 years.

For that reason, my children are named: Grace and Elliot.

one DD is Brittney - we though that was a little different, but she found pencils at Walmart this year with her name spelled correctly on them!!

other DD is Mallory - the lifegaurd at our pool also named Mallory but spells it Malorie!

Hilarie, with one L and an IE on the end. I've never met another one, although I do see one on MTV occasionally. My boyfriend got big points when he knew how to spell it right on our first date. :)

Yes, I've heard every Hillary Clinton joke in the book. I get that spelling a lot, and Hillarie, Hilary, Hilaire, Hillier, and Helane (how they got that I'll never know). Also a lot of times people will just remember that my name starts with an H and I'll be Helen or Heather, and I have a neighbor who has inexplicably called me Alyson for the past ten years.

I like having a unique name. I'd hate walking around knowing that I share my name with millions of other people. The only drawback is that I can never find those little personalized keychains and magnets for myself, and I can live with that. :p

DS(7) is Treigh (trey), I wanted a different spelling but when DS was 3 and started to play video games, you could only put in a three digit word when saving your game so he started using Tre, which is what he writes now but neither is on his birth certificate, his real name is John ____ ____ III , he's a third so that's where Treigh came from.

What's funny is that his baby blanket and some Christmas ornaments have Treigh on them and he's always asking me "is that my name?" so I've had to explain to him, yes that is the way I wanted to spell it but since then you started using Tre so that's what is has ended up being.

Like ead79, my name is Elisabeth, spelled with an "s" instead of a "z". Noone hardly ever spells it right. Even if I spell it for them, they still insist on putting the "z" in it.
DD's name is Elicia (pronounced E-lish-a). Hers also rarely gets spelled correctly and never gets pronounced correctly. She gets Alyssa, Alicia, Elisa and many other variations. Her grandmother still mispronounces it and DD is 24 yo.
Cool thread...interesting to read all the names and variations!

As my user name indicates my name is Keli (Kelly). My mom just spelled it with one l and that has given a lot of folks trouble when spelling my name. I don't mind though I rarely correct anyone about the spelling. I don't care one way or the other if someone mispells my name.

My dd's name is Ashli (Ashley). I also have sisters Kimi (Kimmy), Wendi (Wendy) and Bethani (Bethany). Our mom's name is Jaci (Jackie)

I work with a girl who has an common name with an unusual spelling. Her name is Alycne (Allison). It is often pronounced incorrectly and it has taken me nearly a year to get the spelling right.

My name is Kristina, and through the years it's always been spelled by others as Christina. I am often called Kristine, even though there is an a on the end and not an e. I gave up correcting people years ago, whenever it was unimportant to have it spelled correctly.

My daughter's name is spelled MIKAELA and the traditional spelling is MICHAELA.

My name's Jenifer (with one 'n'). It's strange because I know a lot of Jennifers, but I am nothing like them. I think that people with the same names sometimes act the same or are somewhat alike. I'm nothing like any Jennifer I've ever met. My middle name is Lynne (with an 'e'), which I think is also a little uncommon. I LOVE my names, but I wish I could get things with my name (s) on them without having them specially made. Even thought my grandma knows how my name's spelled, when she gets all of her grandchildren gifts, they have our names on them. She always gets me one...with my name spelled wrong! When my DH and I have kids, they will have regular spelled names. :)

It's usually spelled wrong and I don't bother to correct people, just say it correctly, that's all that matters.
Well I have the opposite problem. Although my name is not common (Yvonne), the handful of times I've seen it, it is always spelled the same way. BUT, it is rarely pronounced correctly (ee- von'), even by people who know me! Usually I get called uh-von', but I get a fair share of ya-von', too. Then there are people who remember it is spelled with a Y, so it must be... Yolanda! Or they remember it sounds like an E even though it's spelled with a Y, so it must be Yvette! I am so used to it being mispronounced I don't even correct people anymore.
Oh, my Dds are Michaela (Mi-kale-a), who always gets called Michael or MIchael-a on the first day of school, and Gabrielle who everyone wants to rename Gabriella!

Yes...have dealt with this my whole life. My name is Lesley...and apparantly, it is the masculine way to spell Leslie. I'm a girl, and i like MY spelling, with the "ey". Middle name is Ley (pronounced Lee) and i love it too. As a double whammy, many people pronounce my name incorrectly. It is LeSley, not LeZley. Many friends and family still don't get it right. But, it surprises me when i'll go to a resturant, give my name, and the hostess naturally writes Lesley and not Leslie. As a result, i am always asking people how they spell their names.

We have this poor girl at work who is named, Edwina. One day a lady called to speak to Iguana! Usually it is changed to Egwanda or something like that!

OMG! I am laughing SO hard at this!

I had to lol today. This afternoon someone called and asked for Iguana!(Edwina .. see post on pg1 or 2) I couldn't believe it since I had just posted that yesterday! I just died laughing and the other girls (who don't DIS) had no clue why it was funnier than usual!

My name is Marea. :o I have had enough in spelling my LAST name all the time that I hated having to spell my first name in addition to it. Not only that, but if people try to pronounce my name they can't even say it (It's pronounced, Maria. But some say Mara, Ma"ray"a, etc) so I go by my middle name, Clare. Sometimes THAT gets mispelled to ("Is it Claire? Clair?")!  :p

All because my mom thought my name would look better without any "i"s because my last name didn't have any (yeah, but that may change in a few years...lol)!

To think I thought I was the only one who heard " Hey you mis-spelled your name "
Ok so now that I have seen the masses , I shall begin to try to get us our own sisterhood ( The Yaya's did it why cant we ?)
We could be the Sisterhood of the Mispelled LOL or the Sisterhood of phonics LOL because it seems to me we have our names spelled like they would be phonically for the most part.

Hooked on Phonics werkerd for me ! :teeth:

Wishing everyone a Tagged night
Mishell QUEEN of the Misfits of the Mis-Spelled

My DS still curses at me for naming him Geoffrey. He could never get anything pre-monogramed.

What is even better his GF's name is pronounced Cassandra but spelled Cassandre.

I work with an (Edwina) too, only she spells it Edwena. I love it when NYers call and ask for Edweiner, LOL. Sje'll occasionally get mail for Edwin or Edward.

We have a Eugenia here at my office. She hates it and we are only allowed to call her Jeannie!

I also hava a friend who spells her daughters name Lyndsy for Lindsey and her other daughter is Lauryn, instead of Lauren

I'm Erick (father = german, so wanted Erich; mom = swedish, wanted Erik. Behold the power of compromise -> Erick)

If I had a nickel for every time I've been spelled 'Eric', well, I'd have a lot of nickels! But revenge is sweet; DS is Erick Jr. ! :p

Not many guys here - I guess that parents don't get as creative with boy's names. How about Byll, Dayvid, Saam, Tahm and Mathewe?
